My Osprey pack creaks as well! Thanks for the grid ref for the water tap - no point carrying 2 litres of water, with a heavy pack, when water is available further on. If you know your walking speed (on the flat and uphill) you can accurately (to the nearest five to ten minutes in my experience) predict your ETA and therefore avoid the stress of wondering if you will reach your destination in time.
