2:29 I got to humbly disagree. I got nothing but fond memories for 3D world runner. This was the first time I had this kind of view in a platfomer in the late 1980s so it was pretty groundbreaking for me. No game was like that at the time. And as repetitive as the music was it it was delightful and it still rings in my head so many years later. I never was able to see 3D mode but it must have been cool
I haven't seen 3D mode either. I wonder what glasses are needed for it. That's an aspect of retro gaming I've never checked out. Thank you for taking the time to comment, it means alot to me!
I had the fortune to own this game and a few pairs of 3D glasses as a kid. Its just a little gimmick, the same way avatar in 3D was. While cool, its still a ridiculously hard game that will crush your balls and send u back to the first world over, and over, and over again. Dont think i ever beat that game as a kid.
I got this game for my 10th birthday and liked it a quite a bit. It came with a pair of standard 3D glasses (I actually still have mine!), which worked on CRT televisions. I always played in regular 2D mode, but did check it out in 3D. I was the same way with "Rad Racer." It was neat for a minute, but not the ideal way to play.
Strider NES was not an adaptation of the arcade game; it was an adaptation of the “Strider Hiryu” manga that told a story of Hiryu being forced out of retirement to deal with a completely different threat than in the arcade (in which he was a rookie Strider). I do agree with you that it was weird and the gameplay was janky. It felt really rushed, and ignored all the abilities he had in the arcade game (wall crawling, assistant machines, etc.). I enjoyed it nonetheless, but if they’d taken the time to at least polish the gameplay and other elements, it would have been an NES classic.
such a crime you didn't bring up Taboo: The Sixth Sense as its an actual waste of time and money because there's no game its just fortune telling software that amounts to nothing
If I haven't played it, I won't give an opinion on it! It's one of the things that sets me apart from people who just google "worst games ever". Merry Christmas!
Ha i came to say the same comment lol. I rented that abomination when i was a kid. I remember it said not for kids under 18 on the box. Boy was I disappointed
the worst NES game I've ever played was obviously Action 52. My brother and I were way into emulation back in the early 2000s and we thought this NES compilation of 52 games sounded cool... boy were we wrong. And then we learned this was a real thing, not a hack, and was sold for $200... which is $450 today. We were blown away -- something THIS bad for THAT much money?!
It's a VERY unfortunate aspect of the gaming market. The worse something is, the more the cost goes up. And to make matters worse, good luck finding an action 52 on the NES that works!
Wow my local mom and pop video rental store carried that cart! Hard to fathom them renting something that expensive out like a normal game it was absolute trash too.
I wonder...was it actually sold for $200 at the time, or was that just the MSRP on paper? Action 52 wasn't sold by major retailers, and the mom and pop store at the flea market could sell it for whatever they could get for it. If they got them for $30 they could have sold them for $60 and poor suckers buying it could have thought that was a great deal because the box said it was worth $200.
@themidcentrist I have no clue. Msrp is what the manufacturer suggests you sell it as right? I'm sure the markups happened often. It's definitely not worth $2 much less $200!
@@Fortefyre MSRP is indeed the price the manufacturer suggests that the retailer sells the item for, but it is almost always inflated so that the retailer can give the customer a "discount" to make them feel like they got a good deal. Video game hardware and newly released games are an exception and usually start out being sold for MSRP, but that probably wouldn't be the case for unlicensed crap like Action 52
Road Fighter was a fairly popular arcade classic. The NES version was an accurate conversion, but not a North American release. It's also one of their oldest home games. Not for everyone I suppose, but I dig it. I have the Konami compilation version for both PS1 and arcade PCB.
I don't agree at all with Mega Man 6 being thrown in the same pile as Dirty Harry, a game the Nerd made an episode on. I've played all the Mega Man games, and I can't even say the first one was bad enough to be thrown on a list like this. If anything, I loved 3-6, and thought 2 was a great game, as well. My 2 cents.
Hardly disagree on Mega Man 6. It does look like another Mega Man game compared to the previous titles. But it isn't always an bad thing and IMO; Mega Man 6 is the most polished & well balanced Mega Man game on the NES. It had great level designs, unique robot masters, great and balanced weapons, the multiple path for the levels was niche, the Rush Adapters are an great addition & fun to mess around with and the game feels more tolerable than the previous ones in terms of difficulty and construction. There isn't any cheap or obnoxious moments that previous Mega Man games have and the way it's design is alot more interesting and fun. Yeah. The game maybe easy. But so was Mega Man 5 and that game was more dull because it didn't do anything special nor it didn't do anything at all. Mega Man 6 tries something at least and I think it pay off. And it was an solid finale for the NES. The game being easy doesn't always mean it's bad as long as the quality and construction of the game is well done and MM6 does just that. No offense my dude. But your wrong.
Blaster Master has got to be my #1 Sunsoft game but I LOVE so many of their other games. Batman rocks, Journey to Silius is fantastic, and Super Spy Hunter is such a hidden gem. I don't care what anyone else says either...but I love Fester's Quest. It's a great game once you know what to do...like so many other NES games. I laughed when I saw Platoon on this list though. Because it's awful and it wasn't even developed by Sunsoft so there you go! ;)
I love videos like this. It's fun to hear other people's opinions on games. I disagree on mm6, strider and 3D world runner, but at the same time, I completely see why you would feel that way. Interesting to discuss no doubt
So many good games on this list. Your mistake was assuming the NES library would be a walk in the park. Hard games doesn't automatically mean a bad game. And there a tons more that are even more difficult than these. I mean good luck with Robocop..
I think at some point, games that become a chore irritate me. But hey, it's an editorial opinion. You'll hate me when I say Hydlide was fun to me haha.
Yeah I don't judge you mate. I've tried to do a complete-em-all but I managed about 20. 3d world runner was fun but the last stages broke me. And that music....
Super Pitfall. The way you progress through the game is nonsensical and impossible to figure out unless you’re told. At one point you have to go through a portal by jumping into a vulture. It’s full of glitches. The opponents and backgrounds are repetitive and boring. You have a gun that can’t be aimed and only shoots horizontally. The bullets go over the spiders, which are everywhere, and are useless against them. It will throw you into clinical depression.
Blaster Master is probably my third favorite NES game of all-time...just behind Mega Man 2 and 3. I grew up playing this game as a 7 year old shortly after it came out and, despite how frustrated I was with it as a youngster, it's now one of my all-time favs. So far ahead of its time and worlds better than Metroid (yep...I said it).
I was expecting you to go easy route and say games like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Wally Bear And The No! Gang, Action 52 or Ghostbusters. But you made your own list avoiding the obvious answers, I respect that.
Well one good thing about me, is that I do check out EVERY game ever, but I do it in the order of release (especially for franchises) to explore the evolution of video gaming. Because of that, many of the "obvious" bad ones, I haven't even played yet! It's exciting to appreciate the growth of gaming through the years from a fresh perspective.
i dont know why the nes version of ghostbusters sucks so much. i played the sms version and it was legit a pretty good game.....i didnt enjoy the nes version at all....
I have to disagree about Strider. While the arcade was far superior (and Strider 2 is my favorite arcade platformer of all time), the NES version was its own brand of fun. It wasn't a port of the arcade Strider, but follows the plot of the Strider manga in Japan. I'll admit that when it came out, when I was a kid, I was a little miffed that it wasn't the arcade game, I ended up loving it anyway. And I always had the arcade Genesis port. And then in 2000, I walked into an arcade in Sapporo and discovered Strider 2. So. Much. Fun.
Little confused on why stealth atf, 3d world runner, and Megaman 6 are on here rather than Hydlide, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Back to the Future, or Bill and Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure.... but I guess it's you're opinion and i do agree with a bulk of your list. Shame if the triangle jump and controls were tight, Strider would be an alright game.
There's a few reasons 1. I play games in the order of release and at the behest of my subscribers. It's one of my sub benefits on Twitch. I'm personally aware of those games, thanks to AVGN many years ago, but I haven't played it myself. 2. I try to play games on true hardware, so if I don't own it, I don't tend to play it. It's a strange combination of the two, I assure you, it'll come up soon lol. I actually LOVE Hydlide, and that's only because I was put into the patience of ARPGs by Ys.
@Fortefyre went through Hydlide all the way and if I'd play it again I would probably try the computer version and I would definitely play it over the Karate Kid or Deadly Towers or even Super Pitfall. With most games I try, if they have broken controls or crap hit detection etc... that's when i bring out the Game Genie and find it more fun, amusing, or by doing so make it more playable for myself and some I actually appreciate more or see what the developer was trying to do. In some case's some of these developers were way ahead of their time in thinking and failed miserably trying to implement some mechanic into the game in turn which "ruined it" or made it a "bad" game".
@@FortefyreI implore you not to risk your sanity by playing any of those games, but if you must read the directions before playing Jekyll and hyde and go into it with an open mind. Some people enjoy it in a "so bad it's good" kind of way.
I actually enjoyed Strider on NES. The wall jumping mechanic is a mess, but with enough practice you can figure it out. I honestly had more trouble mastering the Super Metroid wall jump than the NES Strider and found Super Metroid much more frustrating to play overall. I know I'm a big outlier on this. Maybe because I actually played lots of hours of Strider as a kid, but despite getting an SNES in 1993, I never played Super Metroid until 2008.
@@DarthcrackbabY You are correct! The manga was written by Tatsumi Wada, which was published in a manga anthology. The NES version is based on the manga.
I agree Strider was a fun but difficult game for its time. Definitely a unique platformer with an actual story and interesting yet frustrating wall jump mechanic.
“Goliath was stupidly big. I’m talking massive. Like outrageously, freakishly, laughably enormous. I’m not going to show it to you though because I hate you”
I had a 5 month old on my lap. Getting to Goliath wasn't going to be possible lmao. Plus in the odd chance that someone wants to play it, I want them to experience the unadulterated laughter on their own :)
Not Mega Man 6! Although I will say it was pretty mid, imho. I feel like it's a product of the sequel fatigue that Mega Man was starting to get up to, and I feel like they should have used 6 to innovate on SNES. 7 is a beloved entry.
I know! But there's a reason I haven't. I play games in order of release, so I played the 3 titles that came out before Sunsoft's Batman. If I recall, I want to say it's coming up on my stream soonish.
Road Fighter is an early Famicom game which for some strange reason was released in the PAL region in 1991. It's pretty fun for an early title when you know how to recover from collisions. 3D World Runner, man that game gets frustrating at hell and the music will drive you insane. Mega Man 6. Well it's still a Mega Man game and I like it more than 5. BTW, Platoon was by Ocean. Don't know if Sunsoft developed the NES port beside publishing it.
6:27 Renegade...... I was just a toddler but I remember this game. I remember being in a toy store and my mom swore to me that we've played this game. Apparently we rented it. I remember her saying "remember, the game starts with some people kidnapping your girlfriend". I didn't even know what she was talking about but I had no choice but to take her word for it. So we got it and I recall never ever having seen the game before. Once I got older, I think she saw the game art and thought it was Double Dragon. I thought the game was decent but it was hard.
I had Dirty Harry on my NES. It was the result of being in an Anchorage video game store in 1998, when the place offered a guy $5 for 50-55 games, I immediately offered $10. Most 80s action movie games on the NES are trash. Predator, Total Recall... I think a lot of the games on your list deserve a try (especially MM6), but agree with you 100% on Dirty Harry.
MM6 was a rough time for me in the overall scope of the franchise. It's a fan service title, that Capcom didn't want to publish outside of Japan. Nintendo ended up publishing it on the NES and doesn't mention Capcom at all, it was also one of the final 10 NES games!
I have always been told Dirty Henry was a bad game on the Nes but I never knew that they purposely soft locked you. I’m glad I never had a chance to play it because it would have been in plastic pieces, lol
Oh they don't just soft lock you, the room he's talking about? One of the walls has a big HAHAHA! So they're mocking you too. And the stages are way too long and sprawling.
At 2:20 Game Grumps made a beautiful music animated piece with this.. ♥ For Megaman 6, so it's only good for the story? At 4:13 Game Grumps played it, and it was a glitch fest 😂 For Strider, I never played or seen the arcade, and I had fun with the NES version..
Cranky Kong, "When I was coming up, we played games that we're only one screen." And that's where it starts. So if you're making a game, start there. And work you're way up from there as you develop comfort with your game engine (may take a couple years for that). Don't try and zoom in and zoom out and flip camera, well you can start there if you want. But no, I mean, keep it simple and see how far you can take it I guess. You throw in another repeat loop somewhere and the game completely crashes. Keep back ups for new repeat loops that can you know?
Capcom held boss design contests for MM 2-8, so those are all fan made bosses that were refined by the design team. MM6's Knight Man and Wind Man were the only non-Japanese winners. MM8 only had Sword Man, Clown Man and Search Man designed by fans; Capcom designers made the other bosses.
Hey now, Strider was a fantastic game for the NES, and one of the few you touched on that I owned. I replayed it over and over! Admittedly it's better compared to an early Metroidvania than anything else. It was only related to the arcade by name only. Kinda like the equally fantastic Bionic Commando.
Someone gave me Strider at school and I tried it for a little bit and was bored with it. One day I had no other games to beat so I popped in Strider and beat it. It was so weird to me because I had it for a few years and didn't care but playing thru it that day I actually got into it
What is your problem with Blaster Master? Other than the fact that the game sorely needed a password system or a battery backup. Some people unofficially call it Strider 2014, whatever you call it, it IS and awesome game.
There is a lot to recommend about megaman 6 and a lot to say "yeah not so hot." Pros include different paths to the robot bossed, a less insanely powerful BEAT that's easier to get and the best graphics of the series for Nes. Cons: it felt rushed. Get the last nes game out before its too late. If 5 was too hard 6 was too easy. Would I pay what original cartridges are running now? No. Is it a fine game to get on the switch? Yes. But while your criticisms are fair I would look at silver surfer or festers quest or something before I included the blue bomber. And if I did 5 would be my "leave it be" pick. And this from someone who ground on 5 till it was beaten.
So the reason I didn't include them, is because I haven't played them. Most of the games I've played, were viewer requests on Twitch. I don't regurgitate lists like other commentary youtubers, so there's many I haven't checked out. I actually enjoyed Fester's Quest lmao, I used a NES Advantage though.
u should've placed the NES port of Double Dragon 3 instead of Renegade tbh, that game was not only bad, it was also as disappointing as the arcade game
Double Dragon 3 is my next Double Dragon. I played renegade because of a special event on my stream, and because it's the first game in the Kunio-Kun franchise.
I like your video and when you express your own feelings about the games even if I disagree or become confused but that is only opinion based of course from my side, I value your opinion. Just a curious question about Mega Man 6 what made it not funny if we go very deep into the game overall, I only played Mega Man 1 & Mega Man X so far.
Mega Man 6 was...outdated from the day it was released. That's the only big thing, it felt way to easy, like there weren't any major changes. It was a stark difference from 5 to 6.
Had this on as a background. When I heard Blizzard Man's stage theme and realized you were about to s%%% on a Mega Man game, I literally exclaimed "F%%% YOU." Hearing the rest of the argument, I was like "lead with that instead; since even a C or D tier Mega Man game is, in reality, a B-tier game at actual worst..."
I had a neighbor growing up who was from a super religious family. He gave me a copy of bible adventures so I played it a bunch growing up. I legit enjoyed the Noah’s Arc game. I still think the animal stacking mechanic was pretty cool and in later levels you have to use foods to lure different animals out, or throw rocks at them to knock them out so you can grab them before they run away. I didn’t really understand the biblical connection at the time, I just thought it was fun. I didn’t like the other two games on there.
Wisdom Tree has a tough reputation, but the fact that they voltage spiked the 10NES chip is awesome reverse engineering. Definitely rubbed Nintendo the wrong way!
1. Probably would have been worth mentioning that road fighter was only released in japan and europe. 2. Outrun did not come out for NES. 3. You that in road fighter that the game is so fast you cant avoid obstacles, yet you hit no obstacles in your gameplay footage. 4. You say most nes racing games were Isometric, and games with behind the car perspectives are "outliers". Incorrect. By my count there are 30 North American NES racing games that fall into 8 sub categories based on perspective. 10 are played from behind the car, 5 are isometric. Here is the complete breakdown: Behind: 10- al unser, days of thunder, Ferrari, formula one, knight rider, Mach rider, mario Andretti, rad racer, rad racer 2, roadblasters In car: 3-knight rider, bill elliot, Nigel mansell, Side: 2-excitebike, stunt kids Single screen: 4- off road, Danny Sullivan, super sprint, BMX simulator(Quattro sports) Isometric: 5- rc pro am, rc pro am 2, galaxy 5000, marble madness, cobra triangle Overhead: 4- bump n jump, micro machines , rally bike, super cars Overhead/behind: 1-eliminator boat duel Overhead/side: 1-bigfoot Overhead/side/behind: 1-race america
This is a great breakdown and I appreciate you taking the time to explain it. I do implement European releases in my NES videos, because the NES was also the name of the console in Europe, although the European NES variance is slightly smaller. I didn't record enough footage to capture all the obstacles or cars that were in the way. This was the first time I did this video, so mistakes are always made :)
Merry Christmas brother! Strider was great on the Sega Genesis as it was so close to the arcades it was insane (in 1990). I did like the Nes re-imagining of Strider when it was new. It did some great things for the time. I can't believe you didn't like Blaster Master for the Nes. That game was truly something special. You don't like Afterburner?! What?! Fun Fact: Noah's Ark was actually a non-licensed game by Wisdom Tree. Here's the funny part....Wisdom Tree didn't start out making Bible based games. They were trying to make a game based on Hellraiser. It was going to be incredibly complex with an extra processor (Zilog Z-80 8-bit co-processor) inside the cart. It didn't work out and they started making Bible games shortly after. Crazy.
I get REALLY salty when playing retro games lmaooo. Blaster Master is great, but I lose interest rather quickly because my attention span is the length of a deepwell 3/8" socket. Merry Christmas to you as well!
@@Fortefyre Ha! I get that as well man. My problem is I sometimes don't know when to say "enough." Then I get pissed and middle, middle, middle I'm online trying to replace a controller that totally broke itself. It was like that when I got here, I swear. ;)
@@Fortefyre I know the damn things just kind of jumped out of my hand into various walls in the house. It must be all the old technology in them. New controllers they don't have the same issues and that has nothing to do with games being on easy mode. ;)
MM5 is easily a top 20 NES game, creatively lazy or not. Strider is alright and obviously not a port, IIRC there is a hack that fixes the crappy wall jump. Continuous enemy respawn is also standard on the NES.
My Top 10 List 1. Mike Tyson's Punch Out 2. Battletoads 3. Contra 4. Double Dragon II The Revenge 5. River City Ransom 6. The Legend of Zelda 7. Ninja Gaiden II 8. TMNT II The Arcade Game 9. Ice Climber 10. Excitebike *NOT IN ANY PARTICULAR ORDER* 🤘
The NES version of TMNT 2 is a better effort than all of those old computer ports. The only other official version that's better is the arcade release. The NES versions of Double Dragon 2, Contra, and Punch-Out are better than the original arcade. You especially wouldn't like arcade Contra.
man megaman is solid game its easy or not like other megaman games but its good game ... there is so mutch more bad games... sorry but maby u dont know more games on nes ?
I'm a game historian, so I do know most of the games on the console, but I haven't played them all. I own 64 consoles and I'm regularly changing between them based on what my Twitch subscribers want. Currently I'm going through the entire Konami library from 1977 to now.
Interesting list. My 10 would be totally different as there's games listed here I simply enjoy (3d World Runner), games that I think took a risk but if you put time in can find enjoyment (Strider), games that were prolly a guilty pleasure but I still enjoyed as a kid cause it wasn't totally broken and one of the few games I owned (Stealth ATF) and games that are legitimately good, because even if its paint by numbers development when the canvas is so good the game itself is still good (Mega Man 6).
I know I’m a bit late, but I have fond memories of hating “Hudson Hawk” on NES. I played it when I was a kid because my grandma bought it for me. So I went and found it as an adult to see if it was just too hard when I was little. Boy was I mistaken. It’s just terrible 😅
As for Mega Man 6, I completely agree with your assessment, especially given my preference for the earlier titles like Mega Man 1 - 3. The introduction of charge-fired normal shots and additional equipment takes away from the classic gameplay of strategically finding the boss's weakest weapon and attacking. While some might argue that the charm shifted towards analyzing attack patterns and dodging, I personally found it to be too easy. The too versatile high-powered charge shot seemed to diminish the challenge, allowing for a more forceful approach. Reflecting on my memories from that time, it felt somewhat empty that I could instantly clear a newly purchased Mega Man game at list price on the very day, I saved up enough from my meager allowance. My friends and I used to call each other and compete over the phone about who was the first to buy a new Mega Man game when it came out, and who was the first to clear it. Oops, I'll correct on one thing. I'm from jpn so I'll call it Rock Man 6 here instead of Mega Man 6 lol
Haha, well thank you for the kind comment! I hope that you continue to agree (or disagree) with my opinions and games, and ALWAYS feel free to comment, I LOVE interacting with folks. Did you find that Rockman played better than Mega Man, or did they feel the same? I played Rockman 4 and 5 on the Famicom, because I couldn't afford the NES releases at the time, but I never messed with Mega Man 4 and 5 still to this day!
Well let me see, I'm not sure. I have only played on Japanese consoles only but have watched Mega Man games on speedrun videos. While they are quite similar, I dropped my jaw when I found Mega Man 2's normal difficulty unexpectedly easier, almost boneless. If Mega Man 2 was played in Japan, it would be no way the legendary song "Air Man ga Taosenai"(Can't Beat Air Man) was such a famous I guess. (Normal buster 14 hits -> 7 hits can beat him!?) As you may know, the music is the basis of the concept of Rock Man, but in the titles after 3, the main concept of the Rock'n'Roll-inspired soundtrack has been toned down to fit the world of the bosses. If the Japanese title had also been "Mega Man", I might not have been disappointed with the shift in the music's direction, I think. Regarding the Rock'n'Roll elements, 6 is no longer a shadow of its former self. About the package illustrations difference were... needless to say🤭
@@livewiretune25 Ah yes, the boxart with two left legs and a pistol hahaha. I did do a Ready Go Gaming Show entry on Mega Man if you are interested, it's on my channel! I covered ALL 90+ games in the franchise :)
I’m happy to finally see someone else touch on Platoon. It was one of those games that I inexplicably owned, and on top of being shit, I couldn’t understand why anyone would think kids would want to play a game with such dark subject matter. Maybe next time we can play a game where you watch your grandmother die of Leukemia?
Some of the worst, in my opinion, are Back To The Future, Uncanny X-Men and WWF Wrestlemania (not to be confused with Wrestlemania Challenge). I might also add Karate Champ as well. I admit, I actually like Strider.
I don't know why, but I'm subbing. You give me an early avgn vibe that you've given your own twist to. No one else that tries can pull off anything but "try to hard" cringe
That's very kind of you, thank you. With me, I just give an unadulterated opinion on face value based on what I've experienced. I play games exclusively in order of release to understand the evolution of gaming. I hope you continue to get great vibes from my videos!
@ForteFyreGaming Great work so far. Keep it up dude! I'm 38 and gaming has always been a huge part of my life and family.. So it's always nice to find someone w the same tastes and takes
@@Fortefyre something like that! I was pissed for sure 😂 but I have to say that the game has a good ending! Who doesn’t love Gradius and Life Force, but those endings kind of annoyed me for all I put into them 😇
I agree with Mindscape, not only did their games/ports suck, but so did their instruction manuals Also, for me, pretty much any Bandai game (Dr. Jekyll & Mr Hyde, Dick Tracy, Frankenstein) ..except their Namco ports (Dig Dug II, Galaga, and Xevious were decent)
Mindscape did make a few games I liked myself, namely the MacVenture franchise. Other than that? Hard pass. No shocker they were sold to The Learning Company.
Sunsoft games tend to be hit and miss with me. I disagree with you on Blaster Master but will agree with you on Fester's Quest as that game made no sense and would sometimes crash when walking into buildings. Mindscape did make some classic games however... just, on the Commodore and not the NES.
I agree with your video, for the most part, with the exception of Mega Man 6, as I feel that Mickey Mousecapades would have been a better choice for this video.
These are just 10 games at random based on what I've played. I play games in the order of release, and mostly on the suggestion of my subscribers on Twitch, I carry a little backlog. Currently I'm working on the entire Konami library, and I've made it to 1988!
About your mega Man 6 insert, I agree that mega Man x was awesome however mega Man 7 was a burning trash heap compared to mega Man 6. Of course this is only my opinion and just like yourself as a content reader, you are perfectly okay with getting a free comment from someone explaining why somebody else is wrong. I'm enjoying your contact, keep going.
3D World Runner is perfectly OK to waste 15 minutes. Mega Man 6 is great, you gotta be crazy to say it's not good. It's definitely the most refined out of all of them on NES. I imagine that anyone that likes Mega Man would like it roughly as much as the others.
@@Fortefyre my only goal in life is to change your mind about 3D WorldRunner. All it's going to take is you playing it every morning at 6:30am for the next 60 days.

Batman on the NES was hard as shit. Think Ninja Gaiden very unforgiving I managed to beat it when I was 14 without any kind of cheats. Great cut scene ending. If you liked Double Dragon 2, or the Ninja Gaiden series you'll like the NES Batman just prepare yourself to die a lot on the higher stages. It was probably the best movie based game on the NES.
I think it is only 5 or 6 stages but those stages are tough as nails making it to the boss with life is the hardest part because if your life bar is really low might as well die and start again. @@Fortefyre

I'm fairly certain you might be talking about Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road. The cabinet, and the game, have 2 men with guns on rocks shooting at hellspawns coming from beneath. There are also green dragons that you fight, and a boss that looks like a toad. It was also released in 1986. The arcade game was simply called "Victory Road".
Renagade definitely sucks. When i first got it i was pumped to play it. But you can barely even hit enemys. As far as double dragon. Honestly I'm not sure why the double dragon series gets way more love than River City ransom. The ability to go wherever you want in the game, build your character, the excellent control response, and different fighting techniques available make river city ransome far better than all the double dragon titles on the NES. Double dragon is however have a arcade game.
I liked Strider. I liked the weird, unique feel of it all. It also had great music and sound. However, one thing that may throw new players is you don't get a moment of invulnerability when an enemy hits you, like you do in many other similar games. So even a basic enemy can kill you very quickly if you don't get away or kill him fast. I can see that aspect causing people to rage-quit.
Dragon’s Lair is utter garbage on the NES. Dirk’s sprite is very large on the screen, thus giving him a large hit box, which is a big problem when many of the enemies kill you in one hit, and the jumps are clunky as I’ll get out. Don’t say I didn’t warn you if you do decide to try it. If you get a chance to try the SNES version, on the other hand, that one is playable at least.
Do you like tmnt for nes? I'm asking because it's a game that many likes and many dislikes. Personnally, I disklike it now but I liked when I was young.
3D world runner was pretty terrible overall as a game. If you had 3D glasses it made for a neat little gimmick, but you’re better off playing rad racer instead. Mega man 6, have to agree. It had certain power ups that I WISH megaman 3 had, because of how balls hard it was. It was just completely forgettable, i think the music had a big part of this. I remember playing strider and i had to mess with my NES multiple times because i thought it was shitting itself only to find out it was just shitting itself and glitching out “by design”. Never was able to beat the game because i literally got stuck and couldn’t progress forward. Went around in circles for an hour or so.
@@Fortefyre no, level 4. Four is a pain in the ass, 6 is a kick in the balls and a slap in the face. That's the problem with games like 3-D WR, Castlevania and Ninja Garden fun and easy to play but Nintendo hard is a phrase invented for these games for a reason
@@Fortefyre ummm... I was 7. I was raised in a violent home and it gave me the feeling I was running away. I guess the illusion of 3D. The music, the fact that he smokes during pause. Lotsa reasons
I liked 3D world runner as well
I agree, I enjoyed this game. I actually think it is better then Space Harrier
Absolutely!
I agree. I've always enjoyed it, but the jumping is a bit janky. It could've used a little work.
@@maureenleah13 I think it was our imaginations that helped.

such a crime you didn't bring up Taboo: The Sixth Sense as its an actual waste of time and money because there's no game its just fortune telling software that amounts to nothing
I have actually had a lot of fun pulling this out with friends a few times so I am going to have to disagree!
It's better than jeopardy. With there is no keyboard and you would have to input the correct letters and spellings like ms dos commands
I was the unfortunate gift recipient of Taboo for the NES....🤬
the worst NES game I've ever played was obviously Action 52.
Road Fighter is....frustrating to me haha.
Thank you for your insight!
Batman may be the best Sunsoft game, but don't sleep on Journey to Silius. It runs a close second and is probably the best music
I've seen friends play it!
I love your outlook on this! I don't mind people telling me my opinion is wrong, I encourage it!
Whoa, a rare balanced response to a video like this. Good to see it!

Yeah those games were quite acceptable to say the least. Renegade? Dude...
Never thought I’d see a Mega Man game on here! I used to watch that speedrun!
MegaMan 6 is better than MegaMan 5 or 1...and even possibly 3
So many good games on this list. Your mistake was assuming the NES library would be a walk in the park. Hard games doesn't automatically mean a bad game. And there a tons more that are even more difficult than these. I mean good luck with Robocop..
I think at some point, games that become a chore irritate me. But hey, it's an editorial opinion. You'll hate me when I say Hydlide was fun to me haha.
Yeah I don't judge you mate. I've tried to do a complete-em-all but I managed about 20. 3d world runner was fun but the last stages broke me. And that music....
The eternal loop!
I've never actually played Super Pitfall, but I've heard nothing but bad things.
Honestly I think I like most the games on the list, MM6 was a bit of a retread but the graphics were sooo good
No doubt!
I think Mega Man 6 was Made for an intro to a younger market, to keep the game alive luckily they have more hits than misses.
I think you're right!
Not sure I trust anyone who dislikes Blaster Master, a top-ten game on the NES and the best Metroidvania-style game on the system.
It's just my opinion. I didn't like it. Lol.
So. Much. Fun.
Strider 2 is a SOLID game. I was BLOWN away.
I could think of far worse NES games than what's on here. On the real, you did MegaMan 6 and Strider dirty.
It did me dirty too, I can shower off Strider lmao. I do have to play said games to review them, I'm not looking up copy and paste lists.
There's a few reasons
AVGN already did those games. Not much more can be said about them.
@@themidcentrist I mean at some point I'll play them and review them. Lol
@@FortefyreI implore you not to risk your sanity by playing any of those games, but if you must read the directions before playing Jekyll and hyde and go into it with an open mind. Some people enjoy it in a "so bad it's good" kind of way.

fester's quest isn't bad, but you need a turbo controller lmao

I actually enjoyed Strider on NES. The wall jumping mechanic is a mess, but with enough practice you can figure it out. I honestly had more trouble mastering the Super Metroid wall jump than the NES Strider and found Super Metroid much more frustrating to play overall. I know I'm a big outlier on this. Maybe because I actually played lots of hours of Strider as a kid, but despite getting an SNES in 1993, I never played Super Metroid until 2008.
Strider is so bad it's good. Once you understand the "isms" it gets a LITTLE bit better.
I read somewhere that NES Strider was based on the Japanese manga.
@@DarthcrackbabY You are correct! The manga was written by Tatsumi Wada, which was published in a manga anthology. The NES version is based on the manga.
Strider was good at the time of release.

Although I will say it was pretty mid, imho. I feel like it's a product of the sequel fatigue that Mega Man was starting to get up to, and I feel like they should have used 6 to innovate on SNES. 7 is a beloved entry.
Keiji Inafune (daddy of Megaman) felt the same way!
Did you just say you've never played Batman on NES?! The game and the soundtrack are A+ chefs fucking kiss!

Yeah I was about to say, that's definitely Double Dragon haha. Renegade is mehhhhh.
Stret Fighter 2010 was the most frustrating nes game I played growing up. I had rented the platoon game snd never made it through the first level 😂

Cranky Kong, "When I was coming up, we played games that we're only one screen."
And that's where it starts.

The MegaMan series started to feel like the boss ideas were getting thin sometime around the third game.
They should have just gone off the deep end like Pokemon.

Strider on NES was fun. It was different, but still enjoyable for what it was. I liked that one. Ah well, to each their own.
It's a good game, it just suffers from pretty gnarly programming issues.
I think the jank plays a role in the charm lmao.
Someone gave me Strider at school and I tried it for a little bit and was bored with it. One day I had no other games to beat so I popped in Strider and beat it. It was so weird to me because I had it for a few years and didn't care but playing thru it that day I actually got into it
There you go!

I'm not going to record me FAILING if I can avoid it lol. It's just alpha roll footage.
I see
What is your problem with Blaster Master? Other than the fact that the game sorely needed a password system or a battery backup. Some people unofficially call it Strider 2014, whatever you call it, it IS and awesome game.
I don't really like it lol. I think it's because I've gotten hit WHILE transitioning into the next screen.
Atari 2600 had F-14 Fighter Tomcat flight simulator before the NES. It had you press a button on the console to drop landing gear.
Interesting!
I'm just a boy! I have a way with words haha, I'm sorry!
Great commentary. Very entertaining. Good work.

Here is the complete breakdown:
Behind: 10- al unser, days of thunder, Ferrari, formula one, knight rider, Mach rider, mario Andretti, rad racer, rad racer 2, roadblasters
In car: 3-knight rider, bill elliot, Nigel mansell,
Side: 2-excitebike, stunt kids
Single screen: 4- off road, Danny Sullivan, super sprint, BMX simulator(Quattro sports)
Isometric: 5- rc pro am, rc pro am 2, galaxy 5000, marble madness, cobra triangle
Overhead: 4- bump n jump, micro machines , rally bike, super cars
Overhead/behind: 1-eliminator boat duel
Overhead/side: 1-bigfoot
Overhead/side/behind: 1-race america

Ha! I get that as well man. My problem is I sometimes don't know when to say "enough." Then I get pissed and middle, middle, middle I'm online trying to replace a controller that totally broke itself. It was like that when I got here, I swear. ;)
@@Sinn0100 Relateable!
@@Fortefyre
I know the damn things just kind of jumped out of my hand into various walls in the house. It must be all the old technology in them. New controllers they don't have the same issues and that has nothing to do with games being on easy mode. ;)
After burner does suck... unless you're sitting in an arcade cabinet. Then it's pretty awesome.
Until some douchebag kid that isn't being watched by his parents touches the bright yellow "stop motion" button lol.
MM5 is easily a top 20 NES game, creatively lazy or not. Strider is alright and obviously not a port, IIRC there is a hack that fixes the crappy wall jump. Continuous enemy respawn is also standard on the NES.
It's so funny to think that the NES tropes did play a major role in the success of some games!
My Top 10 List
1. Mike Tyson's Punch Out
2. Battletoads
3. Contra
4. Double Dragon II The Revenge
5. River City Ransom
6. The Legend of Zelda
7. Ninja Gaiden II
8. TMNT II The Arcade Game
9. Ice Climber
10. Excitebike
*NOT IN ANY PARTICULAR ORDER*
🤘
I played Ice Climber in the Arcades, but never on the NES.
The NES version of TMNT 2 is a better effort than all of those old computer ports. The only other official version that's better is the arcade release.
The NES versions of Double Dragon 2, Contra, and Punch-Out are better than the original arcade. You especially wouldn't like arcade Contra.
all but 2 are great games
man megaman is solid game its easy or not like other megaman games but its good game ... there is so mutch more bad games... sorry but maby u dont know more games on nes ?
Great take!
I know I’m a bit late, but I have fond memories of hating “Hudson Hawk” on NES. I played it when I was a kid because my grandma bought it for me. So I went and found it as an adult to see if it was just too hard when I was little. Boy was I mistaken. It’s just terrible 😅
Yeah it's a dogshit game lmfao. It's never too late to watch an older video, in fact I appreciate it!
(Normal buster 14 hits -> 7 hits can beat him!?)
As you may know, the music is the basis of the concept of Rock Man, but in the titles after 3, the main concept of the Rock'n'Roll-inspired soundtrack has been toned down to fit the world of the bosses.
Hahaha absolutely. I don't know, I feel the demographic was more-so aimed for adults.
Some of the worst, in my opinion, are Back To The Future, Uncanny X-Men and WWF Wrestlemania (not to be confused with Wrestlemania Challenge). I might also add Karate Champ as well. I admit, I actually like Strider.
I think the biggest hidden turn of the NES library is "Taboo: the sixth sense". It's literally not even a game.
Blaster Master was AWESOME!
It truly is, but Metroidvania style games ringle my dingle like nothing else.
@@Fortefyre Blaster Master is LOOSELY a metroidvania game.

Who doesn’t love Gradius and Life Force, but those endings kind of annoyed me for all I put into them 😇
@@cougar2013 I totally understand that.
I agree with Mindscape, not only did
their games/ports suck, but so did
their instruction manuals
Also, for me, pretty much any Bandai game
(Dr. Jekyll & Mr Hyde, Dick Tracy,
Frankenstein)
..except their Namco ports
(Dig Dug II, Galaga, and Xevious
were decent)
Mindscape did make a few games I liked myself, namely the MacVenture franchise. Other than that? Hard pass. No shocker they were sold to The Learning Company.
I had their Game Boy version of Dropzone as a kid and I thought it was rather good! Guess I got lucky!
Platoon - the movie least likely to be turned into a video game. Especially back in the 80’s when video games were (supposedly) mainly for kids.
I enjoyed Megaman 6 and Stealth ATF.
Some real stinkers on the NES you didn't mention were Home Alone and Frankenstein: The Monster Returns.
Believe it or not, I haven't played them yet :)
Sunsoft games tend to be hit and miss with me. I disagree with you on Blaster Master but will agree with you on Fester's Quest as that game made no sense and would sometimes crash when walking into buildings. Mindscape did make some classic games however... just, on the Commodore and not the NES.
Yeah Mindscape was much better on the PC spectrum.
Thanks Patrick!
3D World Runner is perfectly OK to waste 15 minutes. Mega Man 6 is great, you gotta be crazy to say it's not good. It's definitely the most refined out of all of them on NES. I imagine that anyone that likes Mega Man would like it roughly as much as the others.
Oh you're going to love it here, I have horrifically bad takes lmao.
@@Fortefyre my only goal in life is to change your mind about 3D WorldRunner. All it's going to take is you playing it every morning at 6:30am for the next 60 days.
The afterburner arcade cabinet ROCKED!!!
LITERALLY
@@Fortefyre I ate a ton of major magics pizza and drank a bunch of pop and hurled in their afterburner cabinet. Back To The Future and BTTF 2&3....ugh (Never finished 2, let alone played part 3)
I dread playing any LJN games. I avoid them like the plague.
I'm excited to check it out!
I think it is only 5 or 6 stages but those stages are tough as nails making it to the boss with life is the hardest part because if your life bar is really low might as well die and start again. @@Fortefyre
when i first played mvc2 i immediately recognized strider hiryu from the nes game.....but i dont remember if i ever beat the nes game.
megaman 6 was good.

that's fair.
i'm still trying to find an arcade game i saw when i was a child.....but i dont remember the name, or most of the plot of the game...
@sabin97 what do you remember about it? What kind if game was it? Anything would help!
@@Fortefyre
it was around 1987, in a small rural shop right across the street from my school.....so the game was probably from 1986 or older.
it was a one or two player game. i dont remember if it was simultaneous.
it was the same kind of game as time soldiers, not sure if that's considered a shooter or not as the mechanics arent exactly the same as all shooters.
i remember the art on the machine had the heroes on some stones, and then below them was some lava and something that looked like huge black worms.
i remember one of the bosses looked like a goant toad......and one of the weapons looked like a beam of rainbow-coloured triangles.
i dont remember the music or anything else about the game......
Strider on the NES is broken in a bad way. If only they took their time to program the physics and hit detection, it would have been a fun experience.
IT really would be.
Deadly Towers was one of the worst NES games IMHO. Great soundtrack but terrible gameplay.
You got Strider wrong. If you were around when it debuted it was a great adventure compared to a lot of other games around the late 1980's.
I mean I was around, but in a sack lmao. I was born in 1992.
I hated Renegade so much lol.
For Sunsoft on NES play Gremlins 2 it's a brilliant game
Noted!
It was really weird, but jumping through platforms is a bad time for me lol.
I remember seeing AVGN talk about it, but I've never played it myself lol.
Do you like tmnt for nes? I'm asking because it's a game that many likes and many dislikes. Personnally, I disklike it now but I liked when I was young.
Eh. It's tolerable to me. I think the final stages are asinine as asinine can be.
The adventures of bayou billy was freaking hard to play
I'm focusing on Konami right now, and I'm dreading it already, if not for the light gun sequences.
Strider... is that the one where you press left then right to simply jump? wtf were the devs smoking there
You can jump, but to do the triangle jump that's required in the game, it can be exceptionally tedious (crack mostly)
I thought my NES was losing its mind as well for Strider. I had to use a walkthrough a few times just for a nudge in the right direction.
3-D Worldrunner was a good game but a pain in the ass on difficulty.
Especially around level 6!
