Ok hear me out. For the dlc of this game, imagine if as an april fools prank, they made a trailer for all characters in the first pack and they where all just fire emblem characters.
@@diddygt As an FE fan I can that he actually isn't the face of the franchise in general since he doesn't appear much outside of his games. Though he is the face of his franchise in Smash, and kind of the only unhated character from it too. Trying to replace him with the latest protagonist is a very bad idea.
@@atrineas Well, maybe not necessarily the face like how Mario is, but more so like Pikachu is to a lesser degree. I'm no FE connoisseur, but doesn't he make the most cameos within the franchise aside from Anna (which is more of her trope)? I'm certain he's probably thought of first when people hear Fire Emblem although that is largely due to Smash. Pretty much like how most people think of Cloud when thinking of Final Fantasy even though he's just the protagonist of VII, not the entire franchise.
I personally would make it a 50 character roster, more than Brawl but less than Smash 4 and Ultimate. With this number you can still keep a lot of beloved characters without cutting too much.
It's more likely that you'll win the lottery. A smaller roster is an inferior game, and Nintendo knows that. This ain't Tekken; this is the ultimate video game crossover.
This is exactly what i was thinking! Sure we want a reboot, but that doesn't mean that EVERY character should have a redone roster. I would say we should expect a roster size anywhere between brawl and 4.
Technology advances over time you know. People need to get over their nostalgia for when there was less options in the past and realise that this is the future where more is available. I’m not saying the roster has to be 200+ characters with no cuts whatsoever, but the overall number should be higher than Ultimate. And Sakurai has the ideology of constructing upon previous work, so don’t expect a reboot that throws away good movesets either.
I actually somewhat like the number of fighters you landed on. The only thing I'm a bit skeptical about is the actual choices you made. Don't get me wrong, these characters definitely are Nintendo's biggest icons and truly make sense, but I feel like you added too few newcomers, as only Pokémon Trainer and Alear are actually debuting in this hypothetical game. An alternate roster I came up with that maintains the same amount of fighters while also adding a few new faces is: -Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Wario (all these 6 fighters are essential imho, keep them) -Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong (sightly rework DK to have Diddy on his shoulder all the time and change a few moves to feature the lil chimp) -Samus (she obviously stays, especially after Dread) -Inkling, Octoling (I think Platoon is a big enough IP where you could feature Octoling as well, even by giving her different weapons than Inkling) -Link, Ganon (yeah, you read it correctly: it's pig Ganon and Zelda is gone, imo she's a bit too far fetched as a fighter to have higher priority) -Kirby, King Dedede (totally agree with you on Meta Knight) Olimar (stays, maybe swaps out Purple and White Pikmin for Icies?) -Spring Man/Min Min (personally I'd go with Spring Man, but Min Min is pretty popular too, so both fit) -Villager (AC is too big of a series and I think that Villager is the definitive choice for those games to be included) -Shulk (I agree, Shulk is the mascot of the franchise) -Pikachu, Greninja, Tinkaton (the mascot of Pokémon, as well as the two representatives of the latest games out there, as Legends Z-A is yet to be released) -Alear (the protagonist of Engage, could use the gimmick you were mentioning) -NES composite character (a sort of sprite blob fighter that morphs into various sprites based on the action they have to do, represents multiple retro games) -Bayonetta (ngl, you almost had me at the end of the last segment, personally I think Bayonetta should be top 1 priority for a third party, as she is Nintendo in everything but legal status at this point) -Mii (they are almost as mascot-like for Nintendo as Mario, maybe a bit less in the Switch era, but still important enough to be featured) This admittedly comes from my personal pitch for a Smash reboot which featured 30 characters in total. The remaining five would be Fox, Barista from Rhythm Heaven, Nell from Advance Wars, and Rex and Noah from Xenoblade
Pretty strong roster, only pick I can say I disagree with is cutting Zelda. I can't see her being ditched in favor of a second Splatoon rep or Arms rep. She's too iconic for that. Cutting Fox is something I don't expect to happen, but is not entirely unfair. That said, if Nintendo has some Star Fox plans we're not aware of, he might be safe. I did sidestep the Miis a bit, as I'm not entirely sure they'll be a thing on Switch 2, but that's a pretty good shout as well. They're definitely iconic enough.
I think 25 is WAY too small, and only 1 newcomer is not enough, especially with that newcomer being a FE character. I think to get people hype for a new game, they need to cut a lot of the Ultimate roster, but add a lot of newcomers and update a lot of the old movesets. I’d say a roster of around 50 is good.
Keeping Pit is a smart choice, ain't no way Sakurai's cutting him, and same with King Dedede, I didn't even think about the "he's voiced by Sakurai" perspective lmao. And Sonic is Sonic. Your heart > your brain! So that's a nice 25 character list. I've no doubt the roster would be larger than that, but yeah these + Falcon and Ness are mainstays in such a (even slightly larger) roster. And Marth. And probably Ryu?
The hardest pill for a lot of Smash fans to swallow is that a smaller roster is inevitable and these games can't keep ballooning the roster like 4 & Ult did. That being said, I appreciate the much more realistic roster size and the balls to cut out the fat of the roster to a Melee sized degree. ( Bonus points for cutting Sheik, Tink & MetaKnight. Though I'd personally swap Alear for Marth and give Marth a Lucina skin, a Roy skin and a Chrom skin to compensate. Maybe even make a toggable blade style for Marth so he can use Balanced blade like Lucina/Chrom or an Inverse blade like Roy. Make it like how Mortal Kombat X handled the various attack styles. )
Not trying to be rude but I seriously believe this type of roster is actually extremely unrealistic personally. I feel like if we do get a reboot we would at most make a roster as big as Brawl which was 35 characters at the very least. I just think in this day and age after how much progress we have done with Smash 4 and specially smash ultimate a melee size roster or smash 64 size roster is an insane downgrade. Even if all the movesets got redone for the veterans is still simply not worth it the amount of characters and representation we lost in the progress. The appeal of smash now is crossing over Nintendo characters with gaming icons. So a roster like the one in the video loses a ton of appeal and is just gonna look like a much worst game than Smash ultimate no matter what they do overall. But the biggest problem of all is the huge lack of newcomers in the roster as well. Like you seriously think people are gonna be excited for a smaller roster and only Alear from Fire emblem as one newcomer for the series? Like no if anything the smash community is gonna be beyond piss up of that happening. Not counting the new Pokémon from Pokémon trainer since at the end of the day is still Pokémon trainer being represented even if he has different Pokémon. Is nonetheless way to small of a newcomer amount and they are pretty underwhelming all things consider specially after most of the huge newcomers we got on smash ultimate. And finally my putting my bias in question almost every single of my mains are cut from this roster so if this was what they new smash game look like it be the worst one without a doubt for me personally.
oh that's not rude at all, feel free to disagree! At the end of the day, a full-on reboot is so unprecedented that it's hard to imagine what it would actually look like. Especially because there's more to the game than just the characters of course, if they were to genuinely make everything from scratch again, I think the roster would end up a lot smaller than many people would expect. I personally don't expect a reboot to actually happen, especially not in the way I presented it in this video. This is was more of a thought experiment, a 'what if' basically. But yeah, I agree, should the next Smash Bros game actually have this roster, it would need some very strong modes and other content to not anger the fanbase.
I personally think that a reboot sized roster would be around Brawl's size, as I feel like even a Melee sized roster would be a bit too much, especially with newcomers being added. But for a Melee sized roster this is pretty solid. You got all the necessities for major Nintendo IPs plus Pit and Sonic. I was struggling to even make a Brawl sized roster because of all the big cuts that had to be made
(I'm Earthbound biased) Please add Ness back. He's too iconic to be cut, and Mother is huge in Japan. Also 26 charcaters will make for a roster the same size as Melee's, being a nice little throwback.
I was thinking since Smash Ultimate was focused on bringing back everyone from the past games, perhaps the next game does a Pokémon Black and White and give us all the completely new fighters.
If they're going to have any third party characters, I don't see them having only one. Maybe two or three like Brawl or base game Smash 4. In that case, I'd do Sonic & Crash. I don't know or care much about Crash, but he has the same kind of rival thing that Sonic has and would be a newcomer so fans would get hyped.
I was wondering where you were going with the Fire Emblem part, Personally would've cut Byleth instead of Robin but having Alear represent the other characters sounded pretty good, though my main reason for picking Robin over Byleth would be to have them call upon characters who use the different weapon types to represent in their moveset which would be similar to Byleth using the special weapons from her series.. Personally would've added a villain myself.
Technically Robin is a villain. There's also Edelgard to represent Three Houses and a female, axe welding, armored unit instead of the countless infantry units we've gotten from Fire Emblem
@@yusifudo46 Robin technically is but not really showing off anything relating to her villain version. And While I do side with the empire myself, I'd prefer a non-playable (outside of the gacha because everyone is playable in that) villain if possible
While I do agree with this roster, especially if 25 is the limit. The reboot really needs to change the art style and gameplay to warrant downsizing to such an extreme extent.
I like this roster! All in all, I say mostly every decision here makes sense, although I do personally disagree with not including Marth but that's about it. My dream Smash reboot would have 30 characters + 5 DLC!
Problem with this video is plug & play thinking is too careless. Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, & Ness were POPULARIZED in Smash 64. Creative solution for Fire Emblem tho. +25 hidden characters = better
Snake has a rich history with Nintendo, actually; he's had countless appearances on Nintendo hardware ever since the NES. There has been at least one Metal Gear game on a Nintendo console in every generation except for the SNES era and (debatably) the Wii era. The NES had Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge, the N64 era had Ghost Babel on the Gameboy Color, the Gamecube had the Twin Snakes, the Wii U era had Snake Eater 3D on the 3DS, and the Switch has the Master Collection. I marked the Wii era as debatable because if you count the Japanese Wii Shop Channel and Wii U eShop, then the original Metal Gear was released on both of those, as well. None of this is even counting all tge non-Metal Gear appearances he's made on Nintendo hardware, either! Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, if you look into the history of Metal Gear as a franchise, you will see that it would not exist except for the fgirst game if the two NES titles never existed.
I'd keep the Original 12 but Jigglypuff and keeping Peach, Bowser, Diddy Kong, Zelda, Ganon, Dedede, Charizard alone, the Pokémon Trainer with 3 new Pokémon, Marth, Roy, Wario, Sonic, Shulk, and Villager
I think this is A very good roaster! I only disagreeing with removing Captain Falcon and Diddy kong. Falcon cause he is the icon of Smash. And Diddy cause he in bodies Nintendo's past partnership with Rare. (And his game Diddy's kong-quest is highly beloved and Diddy kong racing of course)
Although I generally disagree with the Pokemon bit, especially since Pokemon Trainer classes as one slot but the mons are in fact 3 separate fighters. Given the opportunity though, my picks for the franchise would be the same with Pikachu and Pokemon Trainer. Also I definitely agree with Sonic, out of all the 3rd party characters, Sonic is iconic, popular and his rivalry and partnership with Nintendo with some of his games including the Olympic ones cements him as a necessity for Smash Bros.
The only newcomer was a fire emblem character, and you cut 7 fire emblem characters I think that's the only way I can think of making unhappy both fire emblem haters AND fans
Dawg 25 is so unrealistically LOW. Tekken 8 (ALSO made by Bandai Namco) re-made and/or created 32 characters. And Tekken characters are WAYY more Complex. Now imagine Smash, a game WAYYY simpler. They could at least make 50-70 characters in base roaster
Fair point. Smash does tend to have more elaborate stages and collectibles than Tekken tbf, so that does eat more time, but I didn’t think to compare Smash Bros development with Tekken
Personally I believe that most characters from 64 to brawl could stay but ultimate's dlc and new character could be dropped also characters like the star fox trio and the two earthbound protagonist would easily stay
Having the Pokemon trainer have the latest Pokemon is interesting but probably not the best move. The newest Pokemon aren't nearly as popular or iconic as Mewtwo, Greninja, Lucario, and even Jigglypuff. Putting Byleth in instead of Marth is like putting one of the other Halo protagonists instead of Master Chief. Marth is the Mario of Fire Emblem. I feel like you need to keep the core 12 because they're the ones you think about when you think of Smash. The remaining 13 spots (I'd add more spots but I'll just go with 25 to make it simpler) would go to: Peach and Bowser Zelda and Ganondorf Charizard Villager Marth Inkling Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man (This one is a bit of a stretch but these guys are the most iconic video game characters of all time. I think it'd be cool to keep the big 4 in a fighting game together. If not then you could replace Mega Man and Pac-Man with Olimar and Dedede but that's way lamer IMO. ) The last two spots would be newcomers so I'll go with Arthur Morgan and Spider-Man because I think it'd be funny.
Amazing video and roster. I almost agree on everything. But I think that Yoshi and Wario should be cut too. As iconic characters they can be and as successful series of their own they can have, we have to understand that their series are basically subseries of the mario franchise and that they are just mario characters to be honest, and even if in smash they are listed under their own series, they still give the feeling that there are too many Mario characters in the games. So I am cutting them as playable characters but they'll stay in the game in the form of assist trophies. I mean in the main mario games Yoshi is already kinda of an assist trophy, I think he could work similarly to the Pokémon Gogoat in Smash where you can ride him across the stage. Wario on the other I think should join his brother Waluigi and they'll just bring caos on the battlefield together. With this two cuts I'm bringing back Ridley and Captain Falcon. Ridley was a character that fans requested for years to be in the game and we need more villains in this roster. And Captain Falcon is basically just the smash bros character, I can't see him being removed from the game. For the Pokémon franchise I'm of course keeping Pikachu but I'm cutting both Charizard and Pokémon Trainer. I know this may sound strange but follow my thought process for a minute. I am removing the pokéball item and making Red an assist trophy that throws pokéballs and does the same thing. He can spawn one random Pokémon from the ones that could be already spawned by the pokéball in smash plus all the cut Pokémon from the roster (so Jigglypuff, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard, Lucario, Pichu, Mewtwo, Greninja and Incineroar all have a chance to stay in the game but just as Pokémon assistants). I know it would probably be a nightmare to program into the game but I'm positive they could handle it. With these cuts we have 2 new free spots. First things first I am bringing back the Mii characters, I think they are one of the coolest ideas in smash and they bring to the table a lot of games' representation through costumes, also the Nintendo history is there. And I also hope that next nintendo console brings the Miis back after the Switch Sports avatars fiasco. And for the last free slot I am bringing back Bayonetta since she is a so unique character compared to other smash characters, and in my mind one of smash's strongest points is the variety of game genres that it picks its characters from
Wild takes with some of these Fire Emblem; Marth is the face of the series, hes not getting cut, including Alear and shoving them all in them is not a good compromise. Pokemon; Charizard might be popular but it didn't win "#1 Most Popular Pokémon"that **Greninja** did, I probably would have just cut Trainer myaelf and went Pikachu/Lucario/Greninja And while 25 does seem reasonable for returning characters, I'd say tou should have given yourself an extra 5-6 slots solely for newcomers.
I dunno, I sometimes feel like fans see Marth more as the face of the series than IS do. If we look at popularity at least Ike has him beat for sure, so there’s a lot of potential candidates, I figured this was the best solution. The Greninja polls are from 2020 at the most recent, I’m not so sure he’d win again today. I personally feel like Charizard is way more iconic than Lucario or Greninja are, I’d include it over both of them everyday even if I prefer Greninja myself That’s fair enough, which newcomers would you add?
@@Primidpedia Marth is is still THE Fire Emblem character, first in the franchise and the first one added to Smash which popularised it in the west, and that is definitly a lot to account for. Greninja Poll may have happened in 2020 but it still happened, though I guess Charizard was in there too. I guess pokemon reps usually just come with a personal taste to them no matter who;s chosen(to go alongside Pikachu) 5 Characters I'd choose for a Smash reboot... Well I'd keep it to first party characters first and foremost Dillon from Rolling Western - A E-Shop Series that did well enough for it's 3rd game to get a physical release Draugax from Ring Fit - Big game that came out and did super well during the Switch's time Mio from Xenoblade 3 - Did exceptionally well in a new and growing franchise Alear from FE - Yeah Engage probably did well enough to get Alear reguardless Takamaru from Mursame Castle - Retro rep who's missed his chance several times now.
Huh, interesting pick on Draugax instead of the Ring Fit Trainee like I mentioned in the video. Didn't consider him but it would be a classic Sakurai move to subvert expectations and go with the villain instead of the hero
@@Primidpedia Not that I don't like the idea of the Trainee, I just like Draugax more, plus we could always do with some more villains and heavyweights
Hmm, good question. I think mostly characters that barely missed the cut like Diddy Kong, Meta Knight, Ridley and Noah/Mio. Maybe a fan favorite retro pick like Capt. Falcon or Ness too. Definitely Bayonetta or some other third party picks. Who would you go for?
I can’t edit that in now, but I’ll keep it in mind for next time. Then again, the game is 18 years old, I didn’t really think spoiling it would offend anyone
What would this game stand out if it had more characters from the Sonic Franchise besides Sonic The game would be cool if it had characters like Shadow Knuckles Tails Silver Espío Vector Charmy Bee Amy Rouge Blaze Classic Sonic And toon Link should stay then the other
Did... did you cut Marth? Seriously... you cut Marth... and without no justification afterwards? Wow. That was bad. Marth is the mascot of Fire Emblem just like Shulk is the one for Xenoblade. Idc if he would be on Alear's moveset, that is like saying Spongebob is out of a Nickelodeon crossover because Doodlebob can summon him via a draw with his pencil. Bruh.
How many do you think there’s room for? It’s incredibly difficult to say accurately I think, it’s so unprecedented. I could definitely see it being a bit more, maybe 30-35, especially if they pull some clone/Echo stuff again, but for the sake of the video, I drew the line at 25.
@@Primidpedia 25 is a fun thought experiment. Honestly something like that could be the number of veterans, but in that case I think we'd get a good amount of newcomers to compensate. It's unrealistic for something like Ultimate to happen again of course, but I can't see whoever is developing this game actively shooting for a count that would make the game look like a downgrade from the 2008 Wii version to some people. Personally I think 50 is a very realistic number.
I think 25 is fair if they are really going to overhaul the formula and gameplay systems. Granted I don’t think Nintendo would ever do it to that extreme, but I think that’s a fine compromise if it means all of the other aspects of the game are truly fleshed out
@@poptart9162 I guess it's just that I don't think they will completely overhaul everything. I also think some of these 25-30 character "reboot" rosters with very few newcomers are kinda missing the point. I mean this one only has one entirely new character and it's the most predictable and boring one possible. If they do a full reboot then a small roster (still with a lot of new faces) is more justified, but personally I think a soft reboot is more likely. As for this roster, it just looks like Smash (Brawl) lite to me. Even revamped movesets can only stir up so much hype.
25 is a minimum roster probably, the max about 40, any higher or any lower will be too much or too little, I can see maybe 32? Great roster but Byleth definitely could get cut if this is on the supposed upcoming switch sequel
Contracts issues with other companies, balancing issues, too much unneccesary clones, and so on. Also the reboot idea implies that every character will be redone from scratch giving them new and more accurate movesets and fighting styles so there is already a lot of work on the plate
If I had to do a Smash reboot, I'd include 45 characters for the base roster, with 35 returning fighters and 10 newcomers. The roster is as follows (some characters will have different variations with a few minor tweaks and slightly different movesets, kind of like how Mortal Kombat X has a variation system with its characters, having different movesets being strapped to one character): Returning characters: 1- Mario (with Dr. Mario as a variation) 2- Luigi 3- Peach 4- Bowser 5- Yoshi 5- Donkey Kong 6- King K. Rool 7- Link 8- Zelda 9- Ganondorf 10- Fox (with Wolf as a variation) 11- Pikachu 12- Pokemon Trainer 13- Mewtwo 14- Greninja 15- Kirby 16- King Dedede 17- Meta Knight 18- Marth (with Lucina, Chrom, Roy and Lyn as variations) 19- Robin 20- Byleth 21- Samus (with Dark Samus as a variation) 22- Ridley 23- Shulk 24- Inkling (with Octoling as a variation) 25- ROB 26- Mr. Game & Watch 27- Little Mac 28- Villager 29- Isabelle 30- Min Min (with Spring Man as a variation) 31- Sonic (with Shadow as a variation) 32- Mega Man 33- Pac Man 34- Bayonetta 35- Ryu (with Ken as a variation) Newcomers: 36- Waluigi 37- Toad 38- Bandana Dee 39- Ephraim 40- Alear 41- Tails 42- Eggman 43- Albert Wesker 44- Rayman 45- Ezio Auditore
first of all I think you cut a lot of the roaster, sakurai wants to do a game that is at least same quality as ssbu so you cant just eliminate that much, second, eliminating the 64 characters is just not posible for him, also even tho F zero is dead, falcon is already considered by most of the comunity and even the dev team as a smash mascot or representation, if we are real, your pokemon peaks are somewhat biased, I understand pikachu or even charizard but if you want to eliminate that much of the roaster you cant just let red there, also because you are not representing the new generation of the franchise, its established that every smash game comes with a new pokemon of the generation we are in, so we can keep it fresh, here you are just making representation of a generation 25 years ago, charizard or the gen 1 initials or even red doesn't apear in pokemon games any more if its not in a totally gimicky and hidden place, four, why would you got that much nostalgia with them but then just cut out marth who is prob the only character non fire emblem or smash players know, and for alear, idk tbh I hate this roaster also 7 out of 19 characters are from mario franchise
There is absolutely ZERO chance that the next Smash game has fewer characters. 99% of the playerbase is non-competitive, and a smaller roster is, by definition, an inferior game.
With how immensely huge Smash Ultimate’s roster is, I think a somewhat smaller roster is fairly realistic tbh. I expect a smaller roster more than a significantly larger one. That said, I hope you’re right haha
everyone seems to be posting their rosters so heres mine, not necessarily realistic but what id like to see this is before watching the video btw 56 fighters total Returning from 64: Mario DK Link Samus Fox Yoshi Kirby Pikachu Luigi (New moveset heavily inspired by Luigis Mansion) Cpt. Falcon Jigglypuff Ness Returning from Melee: Peach (Peach: Showtime! based moveset) Bowser Zelda (TOTK design) Falco Marth Ganondorf (TOTK design) Mewtwo Mr. Game and Watch Returning from Brawl: Pokemon Trainer Pit Wario (Move It! design) Snake Sonic King Dedede Returning from Sm4sh: Little Mac Greninja Pac-man Duck Hunt Shulk Cloud Bayonetta Returning from Ultimate: Inkling (Splatoon 3 default appearance) Ridley Simon King K. Rool Isabelle Banjo & Kazooie Byleth Steve Pyra/Mythra Sora Newcomers: Newbie (Pikmin, replaces Olimar) King Boo (Super Mario) Kris (Deltarune) Meowscarada (Pokemon) Snip & Clip (Snipperclips) Paper Mario (Super Mario) Alear (Fire Emblem) Eevee (Pokemon) Rauru (The Legend of Zelda) Waluigi (Super Mario) Tetriminos (Tetris) Dixie Kong (DK Country) Eggman (Sonic) Sandbag (Super Smash Bros.) edit: after watching the video it seems like we agree on luigi/peach, sweet
I would have Captain Falcon over Olimar, Falcon is basically a Smash character at this point and is too iconic to not be in smash. As I hate to admit it, Ness as well. Hes more iconic to smash than Earthbound. I would get rid of Ganondorf or Zelda for Ness
Bad takes for the Kirby and Pokémon Series, Meta Knight wouldn't be cut and The Cross gen Pokemon Trainer idea is bad also also too much Gen 1 pandering but Mewtwo is the first legendary so he would stay, Greninja is the most popular mon plus Legends ZA will probably bring back Ash Greninja. But I do think Lucario could be swapped for someone like Cynthia with Garchomp and Incineroar with another gen 7 Mon like Decidueye for example Also SF Wolf is staying cuz he is a villain or would be replaced by Andross Also SUPER BAD TAKE on Xenoblade, I think every game should at least have 1 rep even X with Elma, plus they could update Rex to finally be a Fighter, Noah would also be great with or without Mio and Shulk is staying for being the OG Also Rosalina is more important than other Mario characters since she represents Galaxy Splatoon could have another Rep with Octoling or DJ Octavio And while the Earthbound Series is in a weird spot right now Ness and Lucas rightfully deserve to stay on the roster
I just want to add 38 returning characters and and 12 newcomers in smash bros reboot. 1. Mario 2. Luigi 3. Peach 4. Bowser 5. Waluigi (Newcomer) 6. King Bomb-omb (Newcomer) 7. DK 8. King K Rool 9. Funky Kong (Newcomer) 10. Link 11. Zelda 12. Ganondorf 13. Impa (Newcomer) 14. Samus 15. Ridley 16. Yoshi 17. Kirby 18. King DeeDeeDee 19. Meta Knight 20. Fox 21. Falco 22. Wolf 23. Pikachu 24. Jigglypuff 25. Mewtwo 26. Lucario 27. Ness 28. Lucas 29. Captain Falcon 30. Black Shadow (Newcomer) 31. Marth 32. Ike 33. Chrome 34. Shulk 35. Rex 36. Sonic 37. Shadow (Newcomer) 38. Mega Man 39. Proto Man (Newcomer) 40. Pac-Man 41. Ryu 42. Cloud 43. Sepheroth 44. Kazuya Mishima 45. Lars Alexanderson (Newcomer) 46. Mortal Kombat Raiden (Newcomer) 47. Snake 48. Fortnite Jonesy (Newcomer) 49. Ninjala Van (Newcomer) 50. Peashooter from Plants vs Zombies (Newcomer) Any thoughts on my list?
Here are my two cents: Slot 6: Personally, I believe Wario should stay over King Bob-Omb. I don't think I need to explain why Wario should stay. Slot 9: As much as I love Funky, I believe Diddy should stay over Funky. He's been a mainstay since Brawl. Alternatively, we can cut either Diddy, Sheik, or Falco for Olimar's return. Slot 13: As much as I would love to see Impa, cutting Sheik is not the way to go about this. But honestly, it really could go either way. Alternatively, we can cut either Diddy, Sheik, or Falco for Olimar's return. Slot 22: I do not think Star Fox will keep all 3 characters. If any of em gets cut, it's Wolf. I also cannot see a future Smash game without R.O.B. or Mr. Game & Watch. I'll put G&W here. We can also cut either Diddy, Sheik, or Falco for Olimar's return. Slot 28: I don't think Lucas should remain over Pit. Mother 3 has fallen into obscurity due to Nintendo's neglect, and Pit is just too ingrained into Smash at this point. I realistically cannot see a Smash game after Brawl that doesn't include Pit. Slots 30-33: This is where some of my biggest gripes come in. Marth and Ike obviously stay, but I personally think Robin deserves to stay over Chrom, as Robin both has a more unique playstyle and has more significance in Awakening, the game that saved Fire Emblem. In addition, Byleth is the protagonist of Three Houses, the game that pushed FE into popularity, and I believe it is necessary to sacrifice Black Shadow for the sake of keeping Byleth as a 4th FE rep. Slot 35: I don't think Rex has a justification for his inclusion over the Aegis sisters. But as much as I would like to see Pythra stay, I feel it is very plausible that Noah would replace these two. Alternatively, you could put Villager in here, as this is probably the only spot for the bozo. Slot 37: As much as I would love Shadow in, I feel R.O.B. must stay, and I feel sacrificing Shadow would be the best option to keep the funny robot. Slot 39: Like with Shadow and R.O.B. I believe Inkling staying is necessary, due to Splatoon's popularity and prevalence, and I feel sacrificing Proto Man is the play here. Slots 42-43: As much as I would like Cloud and Sephiroth to stay, I don't think Sakurai would be able to successfully negotiate with Square again, in regards to Final Fantasy, given just how stingy they are with FF. The best replacements here would be Bayo and Steve, due to Bayonetta being anchored to Nintendo and Minecraft having a very large, long-lasting legacy that has impacted gaming culture in enormous ways. Slot 44: I would love to see Kazuya stay, but I feel Hero's legacy is too impactful. Honestly though, it could go either way. Slots 45-50: Here's my biggest gripes. I don't think Lars has enough of a presence to get in, I don't think Raiden would get in over Scorpion, and I feel CastleVania has more of a legacy than Metal Gear, meaning that Simon is more likely to stay than Snake. I'm not a Fortnite fan, but I shall not deny the lasting legacy Fortnite has had on the gaming scene. He can stay. Ninjala lost relevancy as quickly as ARMs did. I don't think it's reasonable to add a Ninjala character as playable. Plants VS. Zombies is great, but I believe PVZ's time has passed. This replaces Snake with Simon, adds Scorpion and Jonesy, and opens up 3 vacant Slots. For my picks for the vacant slots: 1: Isaac from Golden Sun. Fans have been clamoring for Isaac to be upgraded from assist trophy as much as Waluigi, and now that Golden Sun is on Switch Online, more people have been made aware of the series' existence, giving it a slight boost in popularity. I think Isaac has realistic chance here. 2: Adol Christin from Ys. This may be a very unusual pick, but hear me out. Ys has a HUGE legacy, surprisingly. Ys is actually the pioneer of the Action RPG subgenre. So many series wouldn't exist if it weren't for Ys. As much as I would love a Trails character as a Falcom rep more, I firmly believe Adol deserves to be in Smash. Also, he's a red-haired swordsman. Roy mains would love him. 3: This slot can easily go to one of these four: Geno, Bandana Dee, Shadow (yes, I'm putting Shadow back here), or Ring Fit Trainer. Each has a very viable reason: Geno was considered for Brawl but not added, and Super Mario RPG has had a sudden resurgence in popularity, thanks to the remake. Bandana Dee is the missing link in the RtDL quartet, and spears are barely present in Smash. Shadow is obvious as either a Sonic clone or Sonic semi-clone. Ring Fit Adventure was a Smash hit, and unlike ARMs and Ninjala, Ring Fit still retains some relevance. As much as I want Geno, Bandana Dee, or Shadow, I think Ring Fit Trainer gets in here.
Using my two cents on your choices, here's my 50: 1. Mario 2. Luigi 3. Peach 4. Bowser 5. Waluigi (Newcomer) 6. Wario 7. Donkey Kong 8. Diddy Kong 9. King K. Rool 10. Link 11. Zelda 12. Ganondorf 13. Samus 14. Ridley 15. Yoshi 16. Kirby 17. King Dedede 18. Meta Knight 19. Fox 20. Falco 21. Pikachu 22. Jigglypuff 23. Mewtwo 24. Lucario 25. Ness 26. Captain Falcon 27. Marth 28. Ike 29. Robin 30. Byleth 31. Mr. Game & Watch 32. Pit 33. R.O.B. 34. Olimar 35. Villager 36. Shulk 37. Inkling 38. Ring Fit Trainer (Newcomer) 39. Isaac (Newcomer) 40. Sonic 41. Mega Man 42. Pac-Man 43. Ryu 44. Bayonetta 45. Steve 46. Hero 47. Simon 48. Scorpion (Newcomer) 49. Jonesy (Newcomer) 50. Adol (Newcomer)
Why wouldn't Rex justify his inclusion over Pyra and Mythra when theyre from the same game, hes the protagonist, and if you wanted to best capture the combat/gameplay of their original game youd do something along the lines of Rex veing the main fighter with Pyra and Mythra joining in and supporting in various ways. I mean the only reason he wasnt the fighter in ultimate is due to hardware limitations and 8 player smash. He also appears prominently in 3s expansion so he carries with him just about as much justification as Shulk for being in the roster. @Demi-Joker

did you just seriously cut Marth in favour of Byleth and Alear?
Fr what I was bouta say this guy is a Joker 💀💀 !
Yeah, he's practically the face of the franchise. He is to Fire Emblem what Mario and Pikachu are to their respective series.
I think realistically we could see a roaster the size of smash 4
It's more likely that you'll win the lottery.
A smaller roster is an inferior game, and Nintendo knows that.
This ain't Tekken; this is the ultimate video game crossover.
This is exactly what i was thinking! Sure we want a reboot, but that doesn't mean that EVERY character should have a redone roster. I would say we should expect a roster size anywhere between brawl and 4.
Yeah, I agree, something either in between Brawl or Smash 4's roster
Yes. I think 50 fighters, each with its own stage, is the sweet spot.
An alternate roster I came up with that maintains the same amount of fighters while also adding a few new faces is:
-Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Wario (all these 6 fighters are essential imho, keep them)
-Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong (sightly rework DK to have Diddy on his shoulder all the time and change a few moves to feature the lil chimp)
-Samus (she obviously stays, especially after Dread)
-Inkling, Octoling (I think Platoon is a big enough IP where you could feature Octoling as well, even by giving her different weapons than Inkling)
-Link, Ganon (yeah, you read it correctly: it's pig Ganon and Zelda is gone, imo she's a bit too far fetched as a fighter to have higher priority)
-Kirby, King Dedede (totally agree with you on Meta Knight)
Olimar (stays, maybe swaps out Purple and White Pikmin for Icies?)
-Spring Man/Min Min (personally I'd go with Spring Man, but Min Min is pretty popular too, so both fit)
-Villager (AC is too big of a series and I think that Villager is the definitive choice for those games to be included)
-Shulk (I agree, Shulk is the mascot of the franchise)
-Pikachu, Greninja, Tinkaton (the mascot of Pokémon, as well as the two representatives of the latest games out there, as Legends Z-A is yet to be released)
-Alear (the protagonist of Engage, could use the gimmick you were mentioning)
-NES composite character (a sort of sprite blob fighter that morphs into various sprites based on the action they have to do, represents multiple retro games)
-Bayonetta (ngl, you almost had me at the end of the last segment, personally I think Bayonetta should be top 1 priority for a third party, as she is Nintendo in everything but legal status at this point)
-Mii (they are almost as mascot-like for Nintendo as Mario, maybe a bit less in the Switch era, but still important enough to be featured)
This admittedly comes from my personal pitch for a Smash reboot which featured 30 characters in total.
@@Primidpedia Alright gotcha. Fair enough and glad we came to an understanding.
Not bad! I like your reasoning behind each character choice.
Thanks!
Cutting Falcon Was A Risky Ass Move... I Like It
@@DolphCapnOli2001 he’s part of the original 12 so he’s always gonna stay in the roster no matter what
I personally think that a reboot sized roster would be around Brawl's size, as I feel like even a Melee sized roster would be a bit too much, especially with newcomers being added. But for a Melee sized roster this is pretty solid. You got all the necessities for major Nintendo IPs plus Pit and Sonic. I was struggling to even make a Brawl sized roster because of all the big cuts that had to be made
i absolutely think the Metroid characters should be Samus and Ridley. That rivalry is legendary.
(I'm Earthbound biased) Please add Ness back. He's too iconic to be cut, and Mother is huge in Japan. Also 26 charcaters will make for a roster the same size as Melee's, being a nice little throwback.
This is one wild ass video.
I think it was a common notion that no original 12 gets cut 🤷🏻♂️
I was thinking since Smash Ultimate was focused on bringing back everyone from the past games, perhaps the next game does a Pokémon Black and White and give us all the completely new fighters.
And cutting out Mario? Yeah I don’t think so
@@angrygoat85 I was referring to the starting roster.
@@jamesheatherly4209 oh that makes more sense
I’d prefer the new smash game to have a smaller roster but a cutscene focused story mode like smash brawl.
Thank you!
Problem with this video is plug & play thinking is too careless. Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, & Ness were POPULARIZED in Smash 64. Creative solution for Fire Emblem tho. +25 hidden characters = better
Dark Samus appears in Metroid Prime 1, 2, AND 3. The Prime series is literally NAMED AFTER Dark Samus, lol!
The only newcomer was a fire emblem character, and you cut 7 fire emblem characters
I think that's the only way I can think of making unhappy both fire emblem haters AND fans
The fact that Byleth is the only staying is just too funny
There is no way there'd only be 25 characters. 50 at least.
I like this reboot roster. Link, Byleth, and Alear would be my mains.
The remaining 13 spots (I'd add more spots but I'll just go with 25 to make it simpler) would go to:
Peach and Bowser
Zelda and Ganondorf
Charizard
Villager
Marth
Inkling
Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man (This one is a bit of a stretch but these guys are the most iconic video game characters of all time. I think it'd be cool to keep the big 4 in a fighting game together. If not then you could replace Mega Man and Pac-Man with Olimar and Dedede but that's way lamer IMO. )
The last two spots would be newcomers so I'll go with Arthur Morgan and Spider-Man because I think it'd be funny.
And for the last free slot I am bringing back Bayonetta since she is a so unique character compared to other smash characters, and in my mind one of smash's strongest points is the variety of game genres that it picks its characters from
Wild takes with some of these
Fire Emblem; Marth is the face of the series, hes not getting cut, including Alear and shoving them all in them is not a good compromise.
Pokemon; Charizard might be popular but it didn't win "#1 Most Popular Pokémon"that **Greninja** did, I probably would have just cut Trainer myaelf and went Pikachu/Lucario/Greninja
And while 25 does seem reasonable for returning characters, I'd say tou should have given yourself an extra 5-6 slots solely for newcomers.
I personally feel like Charizard is way more iconic than Lucario or Greninja are, I’d include it over both of them everyday even if I prefer Greninja myself
That’s fair enough, which newcomers would you add?
@@Primidpedia
Marth is is still THE Fire Emblem character, first in the franchise and the first one added to Smash which popularised it in the west, and that is definitly a lot to account for.
Greninja Poll may have happened in 2020 but it still happened, though I guess Charizard was in there too. I guess pokemon reps usually just come with a personal taste to them no matter who;s chosen(to go alongside Pikachu)
5 Characters I'd choose for a Smash reboot... Well I'd keep it to first party characters first and foremost
Dillon from Rolling Western - A E-Shop Series that did well enough for it's 3rd game to get a physical release
Draugax from Ring Fit - Big game that came out and did super well during the Switch's time
Mio from Xenoblade 3 - Did exceptionally well in a new and growing franchise
Alear from FE - Yeah Engage probably did well enough to get Alear reguardless
Takamaru from Mursame Castle - Retro rep who's missed his chance several times now.
If you were to make a DLC Pass, Who do you think should be characters that can be in the game?

25 characters is unrealistically low
I think 25 to 30 is fair so they can work on new movesets and other content in the game.
25 is a minimum roster probably, the max about 40, any higher or any lower will be too much or too little, I can see maybe 32? Great roster but Byleth definitely could get cut if this is on the supposed upcoming switch sequel
Why can’t we just keep everyone and just add new guys, it’s not like the next console will be technologically inferior.
Contracts issues with other companies, balancing issues, too much unneccesary clones, and so on. Also the reboot idea implies that every character will be redone from scratch giving them new and more accurate movesets and fighting styles so there is already a lot of work on the plate
I honestly think the roster is going to be between 40-50 for a new game
If I had to do a Smash reboot, I'd include 45 characters for the base roster, with 35 returning fighters and 10 newcomers. first of all I think you cut a lot of the roaster, sakurai wants to do a game that is at least same quality as ssbu so you cant just eliminate that much, second, eliminating the 64 characters is just not posible for him, also even tho F zero is dead, falcon is already considered by most of the comunity and even the dev team as a smash mascot or representation, if we are real, your pokemon peaks are somewhat biased, I understand pikachu or even charizard but if you want to eliminate that much of the roaster you cant just let red there, also because you are not representing the new generation of the franchise, its established that every smash game comes with a new pokemon of the generation we are in, so we can keep it fresh, here you are just making representation of a generation 25 years ago, charizard or the gen 1 initials or even red doesn't apear in pokemon games any more if its not in a totally gimicky and hidden place, four, why would you got that much nostalgia with them but then just cut out marth who is prob the only character non fire emblem or smash players know, and for alear, idk tbh I hate this roaster also 7 out of 19 characters are from mario franchise
Nope, less characters ≠ inferior, not even for casual players.
everyone seems to be posting their rosters so heres mine, not necessarily realistic but what id like to see
this is before watching the video btw

edit: after watching the video it seems like we agree on luigi/peach, sweet
I would have Captain Falcon over Olimar, Falcon is basically a Smash character at this point and is too iconic to not be in smash. As I hate to admit it, Ness as well. Hes more iconic to smash than Earthbound. I would get rid of Ganondorf or Zelda for Ness
Why do you want to get rid of Ganondorf or Zelda? The trio is too iconic to cut!
@@SuperPlacido1 I know, but honestly Ness is more iconic to Smash and he probably should be in. If I had to cut, then I would cut Ganondorf.
I'm sorry but this roster is ASS 😅
Bad takes for the Kirby and Pokémon Series, Meta Knight wouldn't be cut and The Cross gen Pokemon Trainer idea is bad also also too much Gen 1 pandering but Mewtwo is the first legendary so he would stay, Greninja is the most popular mon plus Legends ZA will probably bring back Ash Greninja.
But I do think Lucario could be swapped for someone like Cynthia with Garchomp and
Incineroar with another gen 7 Mon like Decidueye for example
Also SF Wolf is staying cuz he is a villain or would be replaced by Andross
Also SUPER BAD TAKE on Xenoblade, I think every game should at least have 1 rep even X with Elma, plus they could update Rex to finally be a Fighter, Noah would also be great with or without Mio and Shulk is staying for being the OG
Also Rosalina is more important than other Mario characters since she represents Galaxy
Splatoon could have another Rep with Octoling or DJ Octavio
And while the Earthbound Series is in a weird spot right now Ness and Lucas rightfully deserve to stay on the roster
All fair picks, if I had more spots I would probably pick some of these myself.
Galaxy era is dead. Rosalina has not done anything important in years. Daisy is more important then her..
Underated dude
genius video i would have kept k rool instead of yoshi though, same with ridley you wouldn't cut a new charackter
You can not cut Yoshi! Yoshi is too important to be cut!
@@SuperPlacido1 yoshi is a mario charackter going by his criteria he wants 4 mario charackters

Any thoughts on my list?
Here are my two cents:
Slot 6: Personally, I believe Wario should stay over King Bob-Omb.
For my picks for the vacant slots:
1: Isaac from Golden Sun.
Each has a very viable reason:
Geno was considered for Brawl but not added, and Super Mario RPG has had a sudden resurgence in popularity, thanks to the remake.
Using my two cents on your choices, here's my 50:
1. Mario
2. Luigi
3. Peach
4. Bowser

@Demi-Joker
Glad to see someone else wants another Mega Man rep, but while I’d love to see Proto Man I think Zero would be a better choice
oh you picking bad pokemon over actual good pokemon😭
What do you mean by "bad" Pokémon? What criteria do you use to say that the Pokémon he chose are bad Pokémon?
@@SuperPlacido1 new pokemon are unoriginal, the games in general lack a standard
@@istoleyunomilesbigmac All Pokémon are original! You can't say that a Pokémon "isn't original". What criteria do you use to say that a Pokémon "isn't original"?
@@SuperPlacido1 most pokemon nowdays are based off a thing like a pencil or a candle or som, have you never heard anyone critizising that because i shure have
@@istoleyunomilesbigmac All Pokémon are original, so no two are alike! To say that a Pokémon isn't original is just false! It's just too vague to say that a Pokémon isn't "original"!
i only disagree with you cutting people like jigglypuff as every game includes the original 12
Ultimate feels like the final product of what Smash Bros should be. No idea what they can do for a sequel to bring in the hype.
