  • "And once we start, the meter clicks.
And it goes running all through the night."
Please watch in HD with a full screen. ;)
This two is what you get when two unemotional introverts with a slight state of opponents turn into ride or die for each other. They definitely own a special place in my heart.
"The Mirror Visitor" is a french novel series (Original: "La Passe-Miroir") consisting of four books set in a dystopical world written by Christelle Dabos.
Protagonist is Ophélie who simply wants to work in her museum on her ark Anima. But one day a political contract was made that demands her to marry Thorn from the Pole (I'm a sucker for "arranged marriage" tropes and the cover looked like Howl's Moving Castle - do I NEED to say more why picked it up? :D). As expected, they really don't get along very well at the start.
You have to know that the people are gifted with various powers. Thorn, for example, is a chronist and remembers EVERYTHING. He also belongs to the dragon clan which allows him to attack the nerve system of his foes to inflict pain (he kinda hates the power and struggles to control it but that man knows no chill when Ophélie gets hurt, believe me). Ophélie can animate objects (her scarf behaves like a living person, it is so cute) and wander through mirrors from one place to the next. Furthermore, she has the gift of reading - meaning that she touches an object and feels/sees the memories of everyone who ever touched it. Because of this ability, Thorn did this coup that they had to marry because he wants to get behind the secret of the book his family spirit obsesses over. A marriage on the Pole leads to a power exchange between the parties and so he would have gained this ability. Ophélie was NOT amused when she found out.
They bond over getting through various ploys and start discovering what even happened to the world - Eulalia Gonde and an echo leading to heavy consequences - and Ophélie also happened to be included in it.
So, this is my try to kinda show their journey through all the books. Starting with the unwanted engagement that slowly developed into more. Then the absolute insanity in Clairdelune with the abducted persons and Thorn being forced to leave after getting Ophélie's ability to walk through mirrors when the marriage was sealed (for real, Thorn made all those plans to get her reader ability and from all of the three powers he could get, this is the one he did not receive - it's so freaking funny if you think about it). Then Ophélie searching Thorn in Babel where I kinda couldn't resist to give more meaning to the slight "Thorn's watch turned into a compass" plot and them absolutely failing to talk about their feelings like normal persons - the chapter "The Words" was such a satisfying read here. And then this whole plot with the undercover thing in the faculty (in my version, they obviously blow the place up). The book also made a little hint that Thorn won't be lost in Reverse forever and so I went a bit over canon to show Ophélie getting him back already.
It's still not a series I would recommend for everyone - simply because of the change in tune after book 2. Thing is, compared to the politics and the people in the Pole, Babel couldn't reach the same power. I don't despise book 4 as much as many others (I actually rather liked it at times but I must be honest and say that the first two books were BETTER). However, Thorn and Ophélie as couple? What a win! Just give me more about them to read and I'll be fine. Also, Thorn is easily one of my fave book characters now. This scarred stoic mess deserves the world.

_“You want to solve every problem on your own,” she continued in a choked voice, “even if it means using people like chess pieces, even if it means making yourself hated by the whole world.”_
_“And you, do you still hate me?”_
_“I don’t think so. Not anymore.”_
_“Good,” Thorn grunted between his teeth. “Because I’ve never made such an effort not to be hated by someone.”_

Aw! You're back!!! And with such a beautiful fancast book!couple tribute! I really-really love it! I loved the kisses a lot, they looked super realistic, I loved the blow up, it was so cool to see! And I loved the conversations. You really showed the relationship between which you talked about in your description. I admire your talent to make such awesome and realistic fancast videos. I realized, when I made some OC videos (there is just one on yt yet, but when I did that, it wasn't with the intention of making an OC edit, I mean, the video gave me the idea of the book, but since then I made more videos for the same book) I realized how hard it is to not just make the manips and voice-overs seem realistic or just tell a random story, it has to be a story, that exists in some way, like in a published book, or an own book, and the conversations+scenes have to fit THAT story, and it is just so difficult... At the first few, I don't remember struggling too much, scenes came naturally, like it was made to be put together for my story, but then, just the other day, I wanted to tell a bit more specific version of one of the love story in it, and I only succeeded to create one single scene, and it's not that good either. So, I see, it's super hard, and needs lots of talent. I truly admire that in your videos. Because they are much more than a simple crossover or AU. In a simple crossover you only need the scenes to fit, no matter what kinda scenes are those. I truly loved this one, as your every video! And I missed your videos and our chats a lot. Now I don't go into much details, because in the last few days, I had my shoulders aching from pain and typing on the desktop will make it worse, so I stop now, but I want you to know, that you are super talented!

Aww, thank you so much, sweetie! I'm also glad to be back! I struggled a bit with inspiration lately and there was a lot going on for me as well but all the more I am happy to be back with editing again. Especially because this edit was such a pain in the neck to create (getting the scenes, picking the song and also the struggles with the first time editing the scenes of the actors together). So I'm very happy to read that you enjoy the result! 💜
To be fair, there is a lot more going on about their story in the books and so I wasn't able to truly capture all. But I'm glad you think I conveyed what I tried to show in a good way. 😀 I actually struggled a lot with this edit as well! Like you said, the first scenes just came naturally and around the first refrain was about the start, the doubts all started and sooo many changes were made. To such an extent that I even tried out various songs (Such as "Shatter Me" by Lindsey Stirling or "Willow" by Taylor Swift - the last one being practically THEIR song and I'm just waiting to get the powerful Grammy's version somewhere) before I came back to this one which was the original idea in first place. It was such a mess. 🤣
Even more so, I am always so overjoyed when I read your thoughts because you are so talented with editing yourself and reading that you find my manips and voice-overs convincing is the greatest compliment possible. I am always so grateful for that. 🥰
Thanks again for all. And I wish you to get well soon with the pain in your shoulders. Such things are always so ennerving. So I wish you a soon recovery!

It's definitely worth a try for the idea and some characters alone; though, the opinions differ greatly about the series and I can't deny the slight drop in quality in book 3 and 4. However, the setting just pulls you in at times and there are also some funny moments in between. It's definitely a very unique story to read and it has a special touch upon the topic if sensitive themes should be allowed to remember or not which was weaved in greatly in later installments. Also, while Ophélie and Thorn are such fools when it comes to love, if they do have a special scene, it hits right in the feels. 🥰

Awww, thank you so very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! The books work with very specific describtions of the characters, so the fancast proved to be a little difficult and so I'm very happy to read it worked for you! 🥰💜
I used a lot different movies and shows. So in case you want to know about a specific scene from here, you should point it out. But I gladly give you a list of the scenes I used here. 🙂
The scenes with Holliday Grainger are:
      - Strike S01-S04
      - Bonnie & Clyde 2013
      - Finest Hours 2016
      - My Cousin Rachel 2017
      - Robin Hood S03E09
      - The Riot Club 2014
      - Great Expectations 2012
      - Tell It To The Bees 2018
      - The Capture 2019
      - Awaydays 2009 (only her scene at the start of the movie)
The scenes with Alexander Skarsgård are:
      - True Blood S02-S06
      - The Aftermath 2019
      - Mute 2018
      - The Last Drop 2016
      - Little Drummer Girl 2018
Some further aesthetic scenes used from:
      - Jane Eyre 2011 (also with Grainger but I did not use her scenes from there)
      - Ophelia 2018 (Naomi Watts for Berenilde)
      - Tess Of The D'Ubervilles (some outside image)
      - Shadow & Bone S01E02 (pocket watch)
      - Legend Of The Seeker S02E16 (hourglass)
      - Buffy The Vampire Slayer S01E05 (pocket watch), S01E12 (falling cup), S03E22 (exploding building)
      - Beautiful Creatures 2013 (various outside images and books)
      - The Fountain 2006 (falling book; very much at the end of the movie from what I remember)
      - The Tenth Kingdom E01/02 (mirrors)
      - Beauty & The Beast 2017 (library scene)
      - Jonathan Strange & Mr Norell 2015 (various things)
      - The Vampire Diaries S05E17 (shattering glass)
      - The Queen's Gambit S01E01 (chess pieces)
      - Dickinson S01 (various; hand holding scene at the end of this edit)
      - Mansfield Park 1999 (outside image at the very end of the movie)
      - Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest 2006 (VOICE-OVER ONLY!)
      - some short images from that terrible Artemis Fowl adaptation (please don't watch this movie from all that is mentioned here, trust me)
I think that should be all. Like I said, if a certain scene interests you, just write down the time mark, then I can tell you exactly from where it is. Hope that helps And thanks again for the kind comment. 💜

Ohh, now that you mention it, I remember seeing her in that movie as well. But do not worry about not recognizing her. I have such a bad eye when it comes to recognizing actors sometimes, I totally get that issue. 😄
It's definitely worth reading the books. The characters are all memorable and lovable. And if you like stoic, scheming characters who start out as villains, then Artemis is just the right main character for you. The books have some kind of heist feeling and also work with a lot of humor. Though, it should get mentioned that they were clearly set for an audience to also enjoy in the age of a child/young teen but this does not worsen the quality in any way. They still deliver a lot of feels. So, if you are open to that, I would recommend to read them. 🙂

I've actually read the books in German because English isn't my native language. But from what I gathered, people seemed to be content with the English translation. So I don't think there are any issues about things being lost in translation. Comparing some of Thorn's iconic quotes in English and French (at least those I could find) also seemed as if the English translater did a good work. 🙂
