A note to everyone: pick up an AR and Sidekick from a FOB before entering this mission, as it carries over your weapons.
There are ARs and Sidekicks all over in the 1st room anyway
9 Mission restarts in a row, plasma cannon refuses to spawn, tried all difficulties.
Same here. No plasma cannon.
Man, I was wondering what I missed, I had no idea there was a hydra on this level.
i know this is a really old tutorial and all but regaurdless of what difficulty or what skulls i have on the plasma turret won't spawn for me. i tried to bring one in by replaying the mission but to no avail
For anyone who cares, I got this with bandana, IWHBYD & grunt birthday party skulls on. (On legendary difficulty.). You don't need to turn them off, though it is Halo so it might help if it's being glitchy

Great guide! I was thinking this had to be done on co-op since it got released with all of the co-op updates but it looks like you can do it solo on easy. Pretty cool! 😊🏅
Finally popped after a few attempts. Success on Easy; equipping default MK50 Sidekick & MA40 AR from FOB. “Replayed” mission. Made sure I got at least 2-3 kills per weapon just to make sure. NOTE: I had Bandana SKULL on as well, but made sure to grab grenades from level before using them out of caution.
I think they failed previously due to me having the CANON, although it wasn’t used. I was just focusing on one weapon at a time.
Once the Plasma canon didn’t spawn, but only once.
However, I got burned on the Headmaster Achievement. Will revisit them one by one until it pops.
THE RETURN
Perfect locations, especially with the bulldog & hydra. Got it using the bandana skull
Ok, I might be late to the party but, whoever is having problems with this, hope this helps:
- Skulls, other than bandana (I can't confirm, but have a theory), and difficulty don't affect the achievement directly or the turret spawn.
- Restart from the pause menu seems it was less likely that the turret spawns, I recommend select other mission and return.
- Try not to speedrun it so fast before the turret (just once this didn't work but I might've skipped the jackals and the other room). I think it needs to load, sometimes it won't spawn the grunt and others nothing at all.
- For the achievement, I recommend killing more than one enemy per weapon, even killing again enemies with the UNCS weapons on the second floor. Also, my guess about the achievement is that you need to kill enemies with the weapons inside the level as you progress. So killing with external weapons/grenades might affect it as you will spawn with them when you shouldn't have it (bandana skull/FOB).
It took me more than what I expected, so frustrating to be so close yet nothing and tried variations. Hope this helps someone in the future.

Plasma Cannon only spawned for me on Heroic difficulty. Even then the achievement didn’t pop. Will continue to fiddle.
Update: cannon doesn’t always spawn on Heroic. I got it to spawn using the Bandana Skull once.
Update: got cannon to spawn on easy using grunt bday and rare dialogue skull. I replayed the mission; I did not start a new game. Followed this guide and the achievement popped. Good luck.

This worked for me as well first try
I did about 20 full run attempts at this on solo varying skulls or not, fresh save or replay, multiple kills etc and no luck then got it second try on co op so may be worth trying that if it’s not unlocking for you. I got a kill with all the weapons and grenades personally and it unlocked for me, my first try I fell off the map near the end, it wouldn’t respawn me and my co op guy got the hydra kills and it didn’t pop. Hope this helps someone. Also my successful run was on easy with only bandana skull

There is no plasma cannon for me. Is simply wasn’t there
I re did it a couple times and when it wasn’t there I restarted. The 4th time it spawned! Achievement get!!!

Holy balls! The Hydra is still in the first level and I thought they removed it. Used to be right at the end by the dead Brute and you could only get it with the grapple.
Yeah this is very, very glitchy. I've done this multiple times and never got it to pop. I've made sure to get TWO kills minimum per weapon just in case. Do the fusion coils count? I've been doing those too but can never manage to get a kill with the big blue one?
I’m having trouble with this unlocking as well. Recommend to everyone to also include at least 1 melee kill. I also include throwing a fusion coil of each type on my runs. Can’t confirm if this makes a difference.
I had issues with this as well like lots of others. I tried it multiple ways last night on all of the posts that I read on the issue. I used Bandana and Grunt Birthday Skulls but today I also turned on IWHBYD. Someone said that they tested this and Plasma canon was always there and I didn't test multiple times like them but it was there on the first go so idk.
I also used the second bulldog

I don't know if I was just lucky or what but it popped up immediately today.
This is the only solo achievement i don't have. It simply won't pop up even though I've done it in various ways like 10 times
(Edit) popped after I got kills with the br and bulldog at the beginning and with the bulldog and br that spawn later in the level. Also got multiple kills with every weapon. Don't know if it was coincidence or if that had anything to do with it

Same here… got at least 2-3 kills per weapon and grenades. Both ‘New Game’ and ‘Replay Mission’; never used skulls.
I’ve replayed this mission a few times, got kills with each weapon and grenade that’s obtainable, and still haven’t gotten the achievement. I’m playing it on Normal Difficulty with Bandana (On and Off) and I (Dialogue Skull) on. Am I doing something wrong? While I do start the game with previous weapons, I do swap them for the AR and Sidekick and get kills with those. Should I start the mission with the AR and Sidekick instead?
The achievement didn't pop for me but when i checked steam it shows as unlocked.....weird but i'm just glad it worked.
Mission replay seemed to mess this achievement up for me, it's seems you don't get it. So I recommend just starting a new game

I didn't get it first time because I forgot the plasma cannon 😭
Tried this four or five times, the first few times the plasma cannon didn't spawn, the last time it finally did. The only thing I did differently last time was to let all the cut scenes at the start of the mission play out, without skipping anything. Don't know if that's what made the difference, but that's what happened. The sting in the tail is that when I grabbed the cannon I'd already killed all the enemies in that room, so I moved to the next one ... Where as soon as I walked through the door a cutscene triggered and the plasma cannon vanished from my hands! F*&%!!! So I still don't have the achievement.
I done this on easy with bandana skull on, it doesn't mess the achievement.
It doesn't necessarily mess with the achievement but it has been for a lot of people.
I've done this about 7 times and it still hasn't popped. Infinite achievements seem really buggy at the moment
Make sure you get a kill with both modes of the hydra
I also had issues then started a fresh save to do this and that worked first time.

the plasma turret wont spawn for me so i guess i cant get this
Try turning on the grunt birthday party skull and the IWHBYD skull. Set the difficulty on easy then the plasma turret will spawn. If no then keep replaying

Just got the achievement. Will describe what i did in detail below:
New game
No pause
No death
Bandana and IWHBYD skulls on.
Make sure you shoot grunts in the legs and get your grenade kills on brutes because I believe if the grunts gas tank explodes on its back it doesn't count as a weapon/grenade kill.
Spawn.
Kill 2 grunts with leg shots with pistol and next two with AR leg shots.
Grab shotgun and BR from spawn room go to next room and kill two grunts with leg shots from both. Swap out both guns for Plasma Pistol and Mauler here.
Kill charging brute with plasma stick.
Go through next room and kill two gunts with overcharge plasma pistol and two with normal plasma pistol. Again leg shots.
Go back one room and drop pistol for needler.
Kill last grunt with slow needler shots(dont let him explode just tap a couple then watch his body for the shards to disappear and tap a couple more.)
Next room kill brute with the needler explosion by dumping the clip.
Get a frag grenade kill here off a brute and a a stick grenade kill with the spike grenades off another brute.
Continue and drop needler for pulse rifle.
Kill two jackels with pulse rifle. Kill two with mangler.
Throw plasma coil at the two brutes that walk out of the elevator.
Once in frag grenade hallway throw spike grenades and plasma grenades but dont stick anyone. Go for AOE kills.
At the end of the hallway grab the 2nd shotgun in the level and use it for two kills in the next room(where you get spike grenades if you didnt have bandana on.)
Get a grapple kill and normal punch kill in this room as well.
Now grab the fusion coil and throw it at the group of jackels in the next room but do it from as far back as possible(plasma turret is coming up and we want to walk slowly through this hallway and the next room to give it time to spawn)
After slowly making my way through the next area and getting the plasma turret to spawn i did not get a mounted turret kill. I ripped it off and only got a couple unmounted kills.
Proceed to get the ravenger and get a kill both charged and uncharged with it.
Proceed and grab the Hydra and get a non locked on kill on the brute in the same room being careful not to shoot a coil or grunt in the room to negate the actual hydra kill.
Achievement popped on the brute dying.

I did this with bandana skull activate
Had to restart because I forgot the plasma turret. Then had the Hydra left but had to restart because my game froze. THEN realized it wasn’t my game… it was my tv. 🙄🙄🙄
Tried multiple times. Never got it to activate.
No idea why this isnt unlocking for me
Update: don't have any skulls on. Not even IWHBYD

Just did it 4 times and followed your guide, 2 on replay and 2 by starting a new campaign and its not popping for me
