Dicrossus maculatus - Checkerboard cichlid

The checkerboard cichlid Dicrossus maculatus lives in the tributaries of Rio Tapajos. For his environment he needs soft and acid water and since being strictly territorial one needs rather large aquariums for keeping them at home successfully. Having a ratio of one male fish on 3-5 females is recommended and in case one wants to keep more than one male fish a very large aquarium is mandatory.
