  • I've got an Orange Vise installed at OGHQ but I really wanted one at home too. I may not use vises all the time but hey - if I'm gonna use one, it might as well use the coolest one on the market, right? The install is pretty straightforward even though I have to drill through my brand new Bluetree Tops.

    If you need to hold something taller vertically you can always wind the vice right out and place some wood against the back jaw to bring out the clamping location beyond the end of the worktop

  • @NathanSweet
    @NathanSweet Рік тому

    See that big black cylinder sticking out the back of the blue part? You can loosen the blue part and slide the whole jaw assembly forward, so it hangs over the edge of the worktop. You can even move the rear jaw back to increase the max jaw width from 5" to 12".

    If it was REALLY OG, it would be a Fractal Vise!

    You should get a set of transfer punches. They are a must for transferring hole patterns.

      Ah that’s what they’re called. So many times i could’ve used one of those, thanks for the comment, I’m definitely getting a set.

    Instead of a marker or pilot hole, try a machined transfer punch. They will ensure a centered punch hole for all your bolts. I have been using a transfer punch ever since I discovered them and they are awesome for making sure holes are plumb and perfectly centered. They use them mostly in metal work but you can use them for anything

    Do your vise jaws clear your standup cabinet to the right? That way you can clamp long material without having to shift it off-center to the left.

    Look into getting a transfer punch set.it will center the holes you want to drill perfectly

    take from this what you will. generally when I mark with a drill bit using a template, I use a bit similar in diameter as your bolt. Make a few bit rotations with the drill and use a smaller bit to drill the pilot holes. Going thru the amount of material me personally I would have went thru with a 1/4 than jump to 3/8, it goes faster and it prolongs your bigger bits. I even drill pilot holes for self tapping screws, the company I work for uses cheap ones.
