yes, and the other actor who received it is also another HK veteran actor, Yuen Wah, who actually started his career before Tony Leung-- Yuen Wah was Bruce Lee's body double and was last seen in Western cinema in Kung Fu Hustle--which made it extra funny for me.
I heard from a Chinese man that what Wenwu actually told the old man when he watched the movie in a movie theatre in China was "I eat more salt than you eat rice".
Someone might've said before, but imagine a film in MCU where someone tries to kickstart their secret organisation to rule the world, but he has to struggle with other secret organisation that try to rule the world.
I'm imagining 4 people in an elevator, and then the two at the back are "Activated" at the same time, shoot the ones in front of them, and then turn to each other: "Hail Hydra." "Who? No, no, I'm part of the red room project." And then the elevator cable is cut by one of the Mandarin's goons.
One more glaring issue: The Aunt delivers her eulogy to fallen warriors of ancient Chinese origins...in English...imagine being a ghost and needing subtitles for your own funeral.
My head canon is that Trevor is actually the real Mandarin and he has fooled everyone in a long con. After all, he is the only one to use the moniker and live past the credits.
This works since he was also the only one to wear the rings. The bracelets are some other artifact, possibly a failed attempt by the Mandarin to copy his rings. It also explains where the little monster came from and why it was friendly with Trevor, the real Mandarin snuck in and adopted him, then placed him in not-Mandarin's path for him to find. The more I think about this the more it makes sense. It's the Darth Jar Jar theory all over again!
@@hinamatsuro1908 yes, there is, because it means he's not taking the films he's watching seriously, despite having a channel that revolves around taking films seriously.
Feel like the story could have worked better if they said that he did successfully conquer the world millenia ago, but then got bored with having absolute power and just spent the rest of his time fucking around, leaving the earth to do whatever, only for the mystical village and the woman he meets there to reignite his passions. Avoids the nasty question of arguably causing atrocities throughout history, though he'd still be letting it happen with the power to stop it, so he'd still be squarely in selfish territory.
I've decided to dub this phenomenon "attack on titan ending syndrome" where there are some interesting ideas, but little thought is put into the execution, and the end result comes off as rushed and confused.
Seriously, there's a pretty easy way they could've fixed Wenwu's character: 1. He's still been alive for thousands of years, and did conquer the world, but eventually grew bored of world domination as there was no one to challenge him, as he found the hunt for power more fulfilling than actually having it. As for how he gained the 10 rings and such power, just have a montage of his life that shows him being trained to be a ruthless warrior since his childhood, with his family's dynasty having found one of the 10 Rings. Greed and desire for the ring's power caused the family to turn on one another, with Wenwu scraping through by the skin of his teeth. This is why he's so cold and ruthless, he was trained to be a remorseless killer since childhood, and was forced to kill members of his own family to survive. Combined with how brutal such societies and times could be, how could you expect such a man to be a saint? Of course he'd grow into a ruthless man. 2. As for how he gets the other rings, its explained that the rings are drawn to one another, and Wenwu would either have visions of where the other rings may have been buried, or would have led him to fight other warlords that had the rings. That way you could show off the power of each individual ring and show off what each can do, making wielding all of them that much greater. 3. When he 1st fights Ying Li, he experiences his 1st defeat in so long it shocks him, as despite the 10 Rings, her strange martial arts countered every one of them. Despite expecting death, he's even more surprised when she spares him, to which she replies that life is sacred/meaningful, and all have the potential to do good, and she wishes not to snuff it out. This angers him, so he'd challenge her again, and again, and again, yet kept losing. Eventually, this led to a breakdown when she questions why he keeps trying to use force and violence without seemingly thinking about it. This would be the point where Wenwu would crack and admit he can't find a point to his own life. At one point, it was a fight to survive, and the power he needed to acquire to survive. That fight led him to become someone who would conquer the whole world. Yet as stated earlier, when he finally had all that power, he had no idea what to do with it and lost purpose. It would also be revealed that he mainly sticks to the shadows, maintaining enough influence, connections, and wealth to live comfortably, but not to influence all manner of government, because in his mind, what's the point. 4. Slowly, the 2 would open up to each other and Ying Li would feel sorry for how empty Wenwu was. When she'd speak fondly of her own family and loved ones, Wenwu has none. He literally had to kill more than a few of them just to survive, and its not like he had anyone in the last few thousand years to connect to. In fact, she's the 1st connection he's made in what's close to forever. As she falls in love with him, she's eventually forced to come to blows with her people for violating their rules and forming connections with the outside, which goes against their duty. This is when she'd explain the whole, 'secret clan meant to protect the world from evil monster business.' 5. While Ying Li wants to allow Wenwu into the tribe, the elders deny it due to supposedly being able to sense the stains on his soul for all the lives he had taken in his life through some sort of special chi bull or whatever, it would be explained in the movie. Despite Wenwu genuinely feeling remorse for all he'd done now, he'd accept and leave, and despite still having a chance to stay in her home, chose to leave with him. They get married, and have Shang and Xialing, and live pretty happily. Both Shang and Xialing are taught martial arts in their childhood, although to contrast with his own past, Wenwu is actually a caring parent wo wants his kids to have lives free of the bloodshed he lived in, which Ying Li agreed with. However, Ying Li also wanted her kids to see her village, as she believed her sister deserved to know her nephew and niece. So she and Wenwu secretly take them to visit the village, but to Ying Li's horror, her sister rats her out and the family is caught in a trap. Wenwu and Ying Li manage to get through most of the onslaught, but Ying Li is forced to sacrifice herself and take the blow of a dragon scale rope dart aimed at Wenwu, killing her. Wenwu is barely able to escape from the kids. 6. Fueled by heartbreak and grief, Wenwu regresses back into the ruthless warlord he once was, as he just basically had to live the backstory that made him this way after genuinely repenting and wanting to be better. He then trained his kids to be assassins and began forming a criminal empire to take revenge on Ta Lo, which only gets worse when the monster the village has sealed away preys on his guilt and trauma with the voice of his wife, telling him she's still alive and that her people saved her life, only to keep her prisoner and away from him and their kids. Not gonna go into how the plot of the movie would go, but there's the backstory. I just gave Wenwu a motivation and backstory that is more sympathetic and fleshes him out as a character, showcases the powers of each of the 10 Rings, and gives him a much better reason as to why he'd want to usurp and/or destroy Ta Lo. And Wenwu isn't just using strange gimmicky weapons, the dude would be packing military grade guns, bombs, even missiles and warheads with him. The dude would use whatever resource he could find to go after Ta Lo, and it would be scary.
Despite having 'Legend of the Ten Rings' in the title, the movie didn't even give any explanation for the rings. I also like the idea of Wenwu and his men packing military grade weapons and even stuff like Stark tech.
During the transition between 9:35 and 9:40, when you went silent and screen turned black, I instinctively waited for Barry to say ''There's nowhere to run''.
Fun fact: the airbreaks on a bus are an active system that requires a constant airflow being pumped in to keep the breaks inactive, cutting the break line will cause the breaks to activate with no means of unbreaking without fixing the break line.
@@darianstarfrog that's an easy fix, make the comic relief side character being a passionate of cars and stuff so when the bus just stops the protagonist will wonder why that happened, then the side character can explain him and problem solved, you can make sense and not fear that your audience won't understand, and also you get a little more depth in your character. I mean, the explanation wouldn't be seen as exposition or unnatural dialogue when these characters have to say for how much time they have been friends or the audience wouldn't know.
I seriously hate the "haha gotta BREAK THE TONE" moments modern movies HAVE TO have. Every time it's out of place, it's cringe, it's unfunny, and it's in service of making the movies less enjoyable over all because you can't emotionally connect with shit. Fuckin Disney/

I was waiting for you to point out that what Wen Wu says about "chicken dish" and "orange" is idiocy. Mandarin was first and foremost, a RANK in ancient China, comparable to a minister or councillor to the Emperor. That is what the Mandarin of the comics was named for.
One of the meanings of the word is a Manchurian govt official, but it's not a rank or title. The word also has some negative connotations because the Manchurian officials of the late Qing Dynasty were known for being corrupt.
I think the issue is 'Mandarin' is not actually a Chinese word but Malay; the Portuguese picked it up and used it for any East Asian government official. The comparable Chinese rank would be Guan. That said, it would have been very easy to say that given he's so old he was first given his epithet by Portuguese explorers, or even that he is Malay-Chinese.
Professor Hulk isn't a compromise, it's Banner taking everything. The Hulk was his own separate personality. Professor Hulk wasn't a combo personality, it was just Banner. One person dying or never waking up isn't a compromise. Professor Hulk was a really disturbing concept.

Guns? *No* Stun guns? *No* Stun batons? *No* Swords that stun people for 5 minutes? What! Imagine they had wiped the floor with the gate guard people (as they likely should have) and had to deal with the creatures that are immune to their weapons without the knowledge that dragon scale weapons where the only way. @@ylvavarynkottir2265 I mean it could have been explained in that way, by stating she saw the techniques earlier in life then spent time after he left to train, and kept it up. But instead she apparently was just learning it at the same time in secret without any proper instruction and somehow did it better.
@@catsquidcatoverlord9842 A better way could have been that she learnt the techniques by watching and practiced them on her own time. She wasn't any good but the practice helped her remember them. She only ever got good enough to fight with them once she got away from Wenwu and started fighting for real.
The only way I can explain Wenwu going to Ta Lo multiple times and then forgetting how is that he's such a strategic genius, _even he himself_ doesn't know how he does it
35:17 - Sooo true. Compare this with how Ra's al Ghul (of whom this new Mandarin was based on) operates. His League of Shadows ninjas attack at night, leave no witnesses, and most of them work undercover not wearing any garb that would help people trace them back to their origin. When Ra's wanted Batman's attention, he did not attack Bruce Wayne in public - he showed up in the Batcave, knowing full well who he is.
If Wenwu wanted just their pendants he should've sent ONE goon to each of them, who sneaks into Shaun's house, but Shaun comes back home unexpectedly and catches him. They fight and because he's been neglecting his training Shaun loses. The only thing that was stolen was his pendant. He knows his sister has a pendant too, and he also knows where she is because he tracked her down after learning she ran away too. He planned to go to her, but by the time he found her she had her own life, she seemed happy and she never once looked for him. Thinking she didn't WANT to see him he just kept tabs on her. He goes to where she lives, but her family says she isn't home and he need to track her down. He finds a clue that leads him to this underground fighting deal, something he was unaware she was doing. He sees her fighting as the champion, and when she sees him after her fight she attacks him, and he loses because again he neglected his training and she's been fighting professionally for nearly a decade. This is also when we learn unlike him, she defeated the man they sent to steal her pendant because again, she was more prepared for a fight, though she notes the fight wasn't easy it was easier than it maybe should've been. They can reveal later Wenwu specifically sent people who are focused MOSTLY on the sneaky part, not the fighting part, concerned if something went wrong a better fighter might get carried away and seriously hurt or even kill them, which he doesn't want. Shaun and Xialing attempt to reconnect, family drama, yadda yadda, then because his subtle plan failed, Wenwu sends a proper force against the underground fighting ring, his men armed with non-lethal weapons (and not wearing ten rings merch) because once again he doesn't want his kids dead. Now working together they do a lot better at fending off their father's goons, and the plot can progress in a more interesting way than just "he magically shows up but just for his daughter, cause how would he know Shaun would even be there?" You may have noticed I've not mentioned what Katy is doing. That's because she shouldn't be in the movie, get her outta here.

Potentially unpopular opinion: I like that Madvocate takes so long between uploads, since it means he's putting the time & effort into his scripts that don't go into his reviewed projects' scripts. I can't help but wonder if there's MCU films he likes, given how many of them have writing problems like this. Also, I can't help but wonder how long it would take for him to have an aneurysm if he watched a Michael Bay Transformers movie.
To be fair, I think most people can forgive inconsistencies so long as there's a larger theme and emotional stakes at play. Films like Infinity War, Endgame, and The Dark Knight Trilogy fall under this category. The Flash and Shang Chi have none of those things
I found another flaw in this movie regarding the blade arm: If you heat your blade, you just make the blade more breakable; when metal heats, it becomes softer and more vulnerable. If you want to use heat to make your blade cut better, then heat your target, not your blade.
AAAH, but you see. The sword arm is made of Bulshidium. A metal immune to conventional metal properties. It's explained in detail in the comics... With a miniseries worth of lore.
I think what she meant by that was that after 6 years she stopped caring about whether or not if Shang-Chi would come back for her not that she hadn't seen him in only 6 years.
I would like to think that they had more power back when wenwu was full mandarin, and they lost powers as he neglected to be the mandarin when falling in love. It's certainly better than just them being basically a different infinity gauntlet

The easiest thing they could've done is to make set the meeting between the mandarin and his wife earlier in the time period like 14 or 1500's. Have everyone in Ta Lo be essentially immortal as long as they stay inside and you have a long drawn out romance between Wenwu and Ying Li over centuries as he tries to conquer the mystical place. As he concentrated over a single place, the ten rings would essentially end up what's it today, a shodowy organization instead of a conquering army with the rumors of an immortal leader. Ying Li would end up exiled because of the forbidden romance losing immortality and getting married with the mandarin in the 1990's. As he would give up his immortality in favor of living with his wife, this would lead to children. You could say, Immortality and Children doesn't go hand-in-hand. When the wife eventually gets murdered by ten rings in his name, The Mandarin would return to his ruthless form donning the rings again and taking back reins of his former organization in order to build a "safer world" for his children under his rule.

1:02:12 Glorious edit One of my favorite points you brought up was Wenwu's change in demeanor towards Shang-Chi, suddenly blaming him for the mother's death when he hadn't been trained to defend himself OR kill as far as we're told. I thought that was bizarre in the theatre, but didn't fully digest it. I guess it's written off as "Well Wenwu's mind is getting increasingly poisoned by the Dweller's voice". But then you also point out how dense it is for Shang-Chi not to realize his mother was fine with his warlord father for quite some time, so present-day Wenwu really wouldn't phase her.
“My father wouldn’t let me train with the boys” so what you’re saying is you’re upset he didn’t abuse females as much as males? Movie can’t even get it’s woke quote to fit in good lmao
@@d-extra5814 I think he's saying it's odd that the movie pins the daughter's want to undergo to same training her brother went through-- training that's abusive in multiple facets-- as something that she was unjustly denied. As if to say to the audience that she was wronged for not being allowed to be abused emotionally, mentally, and physically like Shangi-Chi was-- against his will.
I think Xialing wanting to be trained just like Shang makes sense. Think about it, their mother loved both Xialing and Shang equally. But when she died, their father focused his attention solely on Shang. Granted it wasn't positive attention, but it was attention nonetheless. She, on the other hand, felt ignored and neglected by her father, and thought that the only way to get his attention was to train herself just like her brother.
@@WebbedManiac I actually agree. Character-wise, the way she's been conditioned, it makes sense. My issue comes when it feels like it's put in a way that, instead of just telling the audience that she wished to have the same attention Shang did via training, they paint it like they're telling us the father's wrong for not training her, in spite of how abusive he was. It's one thing for a character to believe their rationale to be just, and another for the rationale to be propped-up as a message that's just, when it really isn't.
small correction 1:04:22 the suit that was made for Shang Chi is made of Dragon scales. It's not weaponry but it would protect him from getting his soul ripped out.
1:08:28 When Hulk with Bruce Banner's mind was introduced in "Avengers Endgame" I concluded that logically Banner should now be able to turn into Hulk and back at will and thought it to be silly that he didn't do that in "Endgame". But then "She-Hulk" dropped and kind of confirmed that Bruce can no longer turn into a human on his own for some reason. On the other hand, "She-Hulk" also showed how Banner can artificially achieve his human form and why would he want to do that so either way there's nothing to complain about in this scene.
Mu favorite implication from this movie is that during WW2, between 15 million and 20 million Chinese people died and The Mandarin did nothing to stop it.
You’re acting like the Mandarin here is someone who cares about that. He runs an international terrorist group. Since he has been known by different names throughout history, he’s probably one of the many warlords during this time period. And Chinese historical impressions of these warlords were that they’re nothing but thugs.
This villain pisses me off so much, he's so ineffectual and his tactics make very little sense. At least most villains seem to be trying to be successful, but Wenwu feels like he's handicapping himself at every turn.

@BIG DICK ClUTCH I wouldn't say the twist ruined it. People have a gut reaction to be negative when they expect something and then they get something so different. Trevor's character is an actor, and he's actually a pretty good one, which is why we believed his Mandarin act. Because the audience was lead to believe "The Mandarin" was this epic badass, the reveal that he's FAKE can be very jarring and makes people angry rather than focusing on the things around it. The Ten Rings is still totally real, what bout them? Is there a REAL Mandarin? What's he going to do about this? These movies aren't isolated. So we get to find out, yes there's a real Mandarin. Yes he controls the Ten Rings. Yes, he's angry about this stunt. "You took his name, and he wants it back." Iron Man 3 still had an effective villain, and Trevor made an effective frontman. We never actually saw the fake Mandarin DO anything "Mandarin" he only ever acted as this intimidating looking face, so the reveal works and watchers that know the Mandarin should actually be getting suspicious every time this guy shows up. So naturally, instead of instantly curbstomping the first display of these powers he's been searching for that he sees, he patiently waits. Confident in his experience and power, watching to see what makes her tick. Him losing makes no sense since he's 2000+ years old and the rings are stupid OP, but it does make sense why he didn't instantly KO her. He's an immortal, he has patience to spare here.
So he spent who knows how many thousands of years conquering and not ONCE decided he wanted some bitches? This is somehow the least realistic MCU movie and I'm including Eternals in that.
He’s basically Genghis Khan if Genghis Khan didn’t fuck a bunch of women, and considering Genghis Khan is canon to the MCU (See Ironman), Wenwu’s reign makes even less sense. No way he wouldn’t have crossed paths with Genghis Khan at some point (and inevitably destroyed him thus changing literal history and becoming a historical figure).
Just like Janet in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," Ying Li decided NOT to tell her husband and children about the incredibly dangerous threat lurking out there until it is too late. Is Marvel saying that women shouldn't keep secrets because they'll f*** things up for everyone else?
25:53 . Wait, she said 6 years? But Shang chi’s friend said they’ve been friends for 10 years. I assume he only become friends after escaping and living in America where he couldn’t see his sister.
Even Madvocate didn't question why Bruce is acting like an expert on vibranium when he only researched gamma energy and MCU has Shuri as the vibranium expert available who proved she was more knowledgeable when it comes to technology involving vibranium as shown in Infinity War when it came to fixing Vision. 😜😜😜😜
Ehh, I mean it's not like identifying a metal is hard once you know it's physical properties. Especially one which is world famous and one you see constantly because your teammate uses a shield made out of it.
There was a pretty awesome bus driver operator type person who did a breakdown of the bus sequence in terms of what might or might not work and the plot holes/technical issues with it.
Regarding the "Rings being Bracelets", it would be pretty cool if the rings were from space like in the comics (Mokluan race, like Fin Fang Foom), found in the hand of an alien in a spaceship, and the rings are used as bracelets because the alien's hand is way bigger than a human hand, but still called Rings cause it was found in the hand of said alien...
god i miss when the 90s marvel mandarin was a scary villain he can summon 10 dragons who can cause the end of the world but this movie got everything wrong .
38:14 Guys I figured it out. Wenwu was mad about "the Mandarin" because suddenly, all of America knows the symbol of the 10 Rings and associates them with terrorism. Which, is technically still true, but now Wenwu has to recall all of his merch!
I want mention something you forget. The ring is pretty "stupid". What do I mean by this is how the Mother was able to use the rings against Xu Wenwu just by.... getting them and use them. Also the rings change colors, how did she know that the ring can "betray" the user and she knows how to use it instantly and use it better than someone who uses the rings for 2000+ years. The same could be said with Shang Chi, not only does Shang Chi able to compete with his father with thousand years of exprience and also the rings "betray" Xu Wenwu as well. So basically I can take Xu Wenwu on after learning martial arts and also stretch my arms to get the rings to use against him lol.
@Xana havent seen the movie either but just the bs he does with them is pretty much a super power. Also the monster sucking him and just getting confused as the guy just doesn't budge is great
@Xana yes yes everything got to be woke nuh. the big bad woke the little girl did have a teacher, well technically she did not but she watched what her brother teacher was telling him and copied that. From that she went into the ring for years and fought until she was the champion. If anything, shang chi being on her lvl while not fighting for years is the thing that is stretching it. Also arrogant is a thing
@@dodojesus4529 I think the reasoning for him lose despite his vast experience is Dragon bs. Since she had dragon blessing powers, or whatever. Same reason why an outdated village is somehow considered vastly more advanced then our society. They beat the elite evil group of assassins with basic. none lethal weapons. This movie was a wreck.
15:14 Fun fact about buses and breaks: buses use air breaks. Air breaks are under pressure until the break pedal is depressed, when the break pedal is pressed the system becomes depressurised and enables the breaks. If you cut the break line on a bus or truck the breaks will activate after a very short period as the system depressurises.
"He gave himself the name of a chicken dish" "Mandarin" refers to what westerners called Chinese scholars and various authority figures. You'd think bracelet-man would know this.
I was so confused when I watched this movie and I was like "Oh no, they're gonna have to break the news about their mom dying to her family:(" But then they just already know for some reason. Why would you intentionally mess up an important emotional scene? It wasn't even contrived like a lot of the other emotional moments in the movie- it was perfectly established and they just... ignore it.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but the line at 58:58 is actually a mistranslation. Literally, he’s saying “I’ve eaten more people than you have rice.” I don’t know why the movie translated it like that, although admittedly it doesn’t matter much.
Almost all of these points went over my head as I was watching the movie, but they are valid nonetheless. The movie did feel weak though, and I didn't like how it seemed to be promoting Tai Chi which isn't a viable martial art for fighting.
You're just ignorant about Tai Chi, but... none of that's important, it's just a martial arts film. With martial arts in film unless the director states that one of the goals is to be realistic, you have to judge it by its coolness only because that will be the primary goal as part of a film, not a cage fight. And seriously, I'm sick of people who don't do Kung Fu commenting on it, a lot of the blame rests on us as a community but I really do wish I could just delete every comment about Kung Fu online and have a reboot. Shang-Chi was an awful movie, but the martial arts was definitely not a weak point.
It is a cultural conceit in Chinese cinema to make it seem like traditional Chinese martial arts are able to stand up to other forms of martial arts and developments in technology, or even against other forms of traditional Chinese martial arts. Citation: the entire Ip Man series. So honestly, I would give it to them to make it seem like magic tai chi can help Shang Chi fight his supervillain dad with the rings.
Wait they use Tai Chi? If i remember correctly, Tai Chi isnt a martial arts. Kung Fu is THE martial arts that the Chinese is known for. There's plenty of kung fu styles to explore, but Tai Chi is just spiritual exercise if i remember correctly.
Surprised you didnt mention that there are no consequences for Shang-Chi from the bus fight. Like, wouldnt he be wanted for all the damage? At bare minimum, brought in and/ or detained for questioning by the authorities.. even if no charges brought up.. he was streamed and viewed by millions fighting a man with a flaming sword arm and got away with all that life threatening antics and damage to a lot of property
I mean it was the other guy with the flaming dagger, he'd be the wanted one. Yes Shang-Chi fought him but it was literally several guys and a dude with advanced weaponry fighting against a man relying on his agility and his hands. Shang-Chi could very easily claim self-defense as the entire scene visually lends itself to that idea. I don't see why "Shawn" would need to be punished. Not to mention witness Testimony
@@raikasha8152 he would absolutely be witness and need to appear in a court of law if need be.. Shawn was key in the whole situation.. he to an extent was a victim and a witness and the whole case would center around him and his testimony.. he fought the folks and had first hand knowledge and is the son of the guy who sent them.. the fact he engaged in combat he'd have to prove it was self defense as well (george zimmerman "self defense" he still was detained and arrested.. same with Kyle Rittenhouse).. it's very possible he would have been detained for hours until all the destruction and chaos was sorted out and he was cleared of being an aggressor... Think spider-man no way home... so many connections to the crimes lol plus his necklace getting stolen ties him to the assuelt and crimes.. regardless, all the damage that happened, having a relationship with the 10 rings, and being recorded he would absolutely have to give a police statement and come in for questioning with the bare minimum of clearing his name and avoiding association with the assailant with the anount of damage that took place. I saw a fight at a chinese restaurant once and the police took my info down and i made a statement. That was minimal compared to the deaths and 10s of thousands of dollars if not 100s in damage on the bus fight
@@klpthefinest That depends if they would know that/arrest at the end of the movie. And I doubt they would know about Wenwu and wait that long to arrest.
The bus driver is wearing earbuds? I've driven a bus, and they train you to always check your mirrors, including the mirror for passengers. You have a panic button to trigger silent alarm. Bus companies have their own police and have direct lines to emergency responders. This is insane that the bus driver is just... doing nothing. I hate how the treat bus drivers as shitty drivers in movies. Always hitting people. Never paying attention.
This is another problem of a shared universe that even the actual comics have. So many stories where the all powerful bad guys rule things from the shadows for centuries except they are more than one group and they somehow never met even though they all have the same tactics, for instance the Ten Rings, HYDRA and now the Skrulls all sending agents, well, how lucky that the Hydra agent being actually controlled by the Ten Rings didn't know that his boss was actually a Skrull in disguise.
Honestly, it’s more believable than Razorblade in the comics who has his blade arm constantly out and exposed everywhere at all times I think in the comics both his arms are blades as well so that’d make day to day like like he was Edward Scissorhands In the comics it isn’t even detachable it’s just THERE always This is one of the few instances the MCU actually makes a character more powerful and versatile than their comic book counterparts
How is that REMOTELY more believable? People literally have prosthetics including hooks. You think a massive blade getting sucked into a smaller area inside an arm is MORE believable? One that is also on fire or something? That operates with a thought somehow?
At 30:01 the glass of window conveniently breaks at specific sections of the edges where Shang-Chi is gonna grab to hang on to the bus, so that the sharp glass pieces don't have to penetrate his hand.
Thing is: Help his sister with what? There is at no point in the movie any indication that the sister was being abused, unless we are assuming not being trained as an assassin using cruel methods is abuse, nor anything that would constitute requiring saving, on the contrary when she decide to "run away" she is allowed to do it. Reason for Kate to be taken to 10 rings hideout: Mandarin thinks she is Shang's wife/GF/beloved, which is not far from the truth...
Yeah, she's basically just lonely. Sure it's not the most LOVING home anymore, but she was basically just being ignored as far as I can tell. Did she not get whatever she wanted? Like he's SUPER rich, he trained Shaun hardcore yeah, but it's not like he kicked his daughter out of his house. Like he LOVED his children, he was pissed off that his wife was killed (though NOT pissed off enough to go out and wipe out the gang that did it on his own, which he's defeated ARMIES solo he can totally handle entire ordinary chinese gangs despite his total lack of security measures) but that wouldn't make him hate his CHILDREN. If anything it should make him want to keep them close even MORE. Like ONE bitch dies and he immediately hates everything even his own children that he adored TEN minutes ago? Fuck's sake, this movie is so stupid. So we see he still cares about his children and his MAIN GOAL in the movie is to revive his wife so they can be a family again yeah?....... So, logically, he probably at least gave his daughter whatever things she wanted. She was allowed to just LEAVE for years and years, he knew EXACTLY where she fucking was this whole time cause she was dumb enough to use her real name, so he obviously didn't mind that she wanted to leave for a while....... So, why'd she even want to leave? Was risking DEATH every day in an illegal SUPERhuman fight club, OF WHICH SHE IS NOT SUPERHUMAN, more desirable than being an incredibly wealthy PRINCESS more or less that gets whatever she wants and has TOTAL freedom in basically every single way, BUT her brother who I imagine wasn't spending much, if any, time with her because of his non-stop training, didn't come back when he said he would for some reason that he never explains. So, now she's just cold and distant and hates the world......... These characters are so PETTY and SHALLOW. Wenwu finds some magic rings, and he just WANTS POWER. He has NO other desires for NO reason at all, he just gets the most powerful artifacts ON THE PLANET and decides he wants MORE power for some reason. Then he meets a hot chick, and he just IMMEDIATELY drops all of that to marry her and raise children. Just instantly, he doesn't even work behind her back to infiltrate her people or anything, just TOTALLY drops the last 2 thousand years of his life. Then despite him having NO more connections to crime, some random crime group decides to murder his wife. The wife, OF A GUY WITH GODLY POWERS! We KNOW he's got ZERO criminal connections at this point, cause he's SO relaxed and so out of evil that his home has ZERO security, so there's really no reason for him to be attacked, he is OUT of the game. Attacking his family earns them nothing. If they just targeted him because he's really rich and they kidnapped his son for ransom, killing his wife maybe by mistake (though they CLEARLY want to imply that on her own she's AS powerful as Wenwu is WITH the rings, so how is it even possible a handful of normal humans could so much as ruffle her hair?) THEN that would make sense. But that's not what they did, so it's just more characters being petty. Then because one person died Wenwu reverts INSTANTLY and starts severely abusing his son and maybe ignoring his daughter but we don't really know? A deeper character may have tried getting even CLOSER with his children as they are the only thing he has left from his family. Being that they, are now his entire family. Which SUPPOSEDLY was important to him? So apparently Wenwu in fact did NOT love his children, he ONLY loved his wife and he ONLY raised his children because that's what she wanted, so the Mandarin is just a massive fucking simp now, great. Then despite being indoctrinated for several years, just because, Shaun dips and vanishes for a decade or so, throwing his entire life away, including his sister whom he supposedly cares about but apparently doesn't. Why now? No particular reason. I guess he doesn't really care about his mother either, cause he was literally assigned with killing the person who murdered her (again, dad has godly powers and knows exactly who did it, but.... no? Just gonna waste years training your son so HE can do it for some reason? Ok) but he refused to do it for no reason despite IN THE MOVIE saying if his father asked him to do ANYTHING at this point in time, he would do it, and then ran away instead. Many years later, Shaun is totally ok with killing people, so that obviously wasn't the reason he ran away, so it must have been just because. His sister who was NOT abused, is upset her father didn't abuse HER too, so she ran away just because. Then she joined an illegal superhuman fight club, again just because. She used her REAL name, just because. And when her brother turns up all of a sudden, she fights him for a while, just because. So she obviously doesn't love him either, cause he said he'd come back, and then he didn't, and because she doesn't trust him she ASSUMED he was still alive and he just abandoned her, not that he didn't come back because he was KILLED or anything. So she never trusted him, she doesn't love him, and she doesn't care about him just because. THESE CHARACTERS ARE SO FUCKING SHIT!
I truly resent that this movie established that the way Shang chi was treated was horrible and traumatic, yet it was at least just as bad (if not somehow worse) that his sister managed to escape that same treatment…because she wasn’t allowed to be a girl boss? Are they really trying to say that his sister could stand there, watching her brother endure horrific abuse, and thought “it’s so unfair that I don’t get to do that, I’m just as strong, pity me!” instead of being mortified at her brother’s treatment?
I actually adored when Wenwu said "Be careful how you talk to me young man" it's genuinely one of the few jokes that landed for me

Seriously, there's a pretty easy way they could've fixed Wenwu's character:
This is when she'd explain the whole, 'secret clan meant to protect the world from evil monster business.'

I thought he was named after the language. But this an even cooler explanation for the name.
The Mandarin is not a rank and is not a word native to China. "Mandarin" is a Portuguese word for any generic Qing Dynasty bureaucrat.

But Madvocate, Xialing was able to teach herself to fight better just by watching because she's obviously the real Taskmaster.

I assumed she kept up with her training, unlike Shang who stopped his training relatively early when he ran off. While Shang was living a normal life, Xialing was presumably running/competing in underground fighting rings.
@@ylvavarynkottir2265 I mean it could have been explained in that way, by stating she saw the techniques earlier in life then spent time after he left to train, and kept it up. Tha-THATS EXACTLY WHAT IT DID
Seriously, where did you watch this film?!
League of Shadows in the Nolan movies were fucking amazing
League Of Shadows are among the best assassin group ever. Comparing them to these guys are a disrespect towards League Of Shadows.
Now working together they do a lot better at fending off their father's goons, and the plot can progress in a more interesting way than just "he magically shows up but just for his daughter, cause how would he know Shaun would even be there?"
You may have noticed I've not mentioned what Katy is doing. That's because she shouldn't be in the movie, get her outta here.
Here wenvu is far fucking stronger than demon's head he just doesn't give a fuck who the fuck can fight mandarin he is immortal and unkillable why would he care about some government who cant even take on wakanda be any match for the man who controls the fucking world by his operatives in everything

IF THAT ISN'T BUTCHERING A CHARACTER THEN NOTHING IS
The easiest thing they could've done is to make set the meeting between the mandarin and his wife earlier in the time period like 14 or 1500's. When the wife eventually gets murdered by ten rings in his name, The Mandarin would return to his ruthless form donning the rings again and taking back reins of his former organization in order to build a "safer world" for his children under his rule.
you have better writing than the ones who wrote about shang chi

One of my favorite points you brought up was Wenwu's change in demeanor towards Shang-Chi, suddenly blaming him for the mother's death when he hadn't been trained to defend himself OR kill as far as we're told.

I think he's saying it's odd that the movie pins the daughter's want to undergo to same training her brother went through-- training that's abusive in multiple facets-- as something that she was unjustly denied.
@@WebbedManiac
I actually agree.

The REAL Mandarin was an Iron Man villain exactly because he was very intelligent and his Ten Rings were REALLY powerful, cause they all did DIFFERENT THINGS!

"You took his name, and he wants it back."
Iron Man 3 still had an effective villain, and Trevor made an effective frontman. We never actually saw the fake Mandarin DO anything "Mandarin" he only ever acted as this intimidating looking face, so the reveal works and watchers that know the Mandarin should actually be getting suspicious every time this guy shows up.

38:14 Guys I figured it out. Wenwu was mad about "the Mandarin" because suddenly, all of America knows the symbol of the 10 Rings and associates them with terrorism. Which, is technically still true, but now Wenwu has to recall all of his merch!
I always watch the whole video from start to finish. I love these videos from madvocate
Obligatory "when the world needed him most he returned" comment.
Making the guy 2000 years old is so baffelingngly bad, he shouldnt lose to anyone while having the rings
@Xana 2k+years of experience plus super power weapon means that he would kick anyones ass, even a lot of avengers would be put against a wall
@Xana havent seen the movie either but just the bs he does with them is pretty much a super power.
Also the monster sucking him and just getting confused as the guy just doesn't budge is great
@Xana yes yes everything got to be woke nuh. the big bad woke
the little girl did have a teacher, well technically she did not but she watched what her brother teacher was telling him and copied that.
No Way Home made Wong the Sorcerer Supreme too! It was because Strange was gone 5 years and Shang-Chi is post snap. Fucking brilliant.

Fun fact about buses and breaks: buses use air breaks. Air breaks are under pressure until the break pedal is depressed, when the break pedal is pressed the system becomes depressurised and enables the breaks. If you cut the break line on a bus or truck the breaks will activate after a very short period as the system depressurises.
"He gave himself the name of a chicken dish"
"Mandarin" refers to what westerners called Chinese scholars and various authority figures.
You'd think bracelet-man would know this.
So Wenwu was The Thinker all along.
And he would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those meddling kids and their stupid dog!
He was ready to mind-control the Dweller there, we just didn't see it because his son intervened.
Wenwu, like Damien Darhk from Arrow, had to be dumbed down in order for the protagonists to survive.
So tired of MCU third acts, somone tell feige that you can have third acts without fighting giant monsters.
That's not tai chi as we know it. it's just magic so I do believe it to be viable
Wait they use Tai Chi? If i remember correctly, Tai Chi isnt a martial arts. Kung Fu is THE martial arts that the Chinese is known for. There's plenty of kung fu styles to explore, but Tai Chi is just spiritual exercise if i remember correctly.
@@peterwang5660 Kung Fu itself isnt really viable. Even Jackie Chan learnt a lot of other fighting styles including boxing.
I like your funny words magic man.
Seriously, entertaining as always
Man, it's always a great day when madvocate uploads
Wake up babe!
New Madvocate video just dropped!
Someone said this channel is like if CinemaSins took his job seriously and I agree lol
that like saying I wish comedians take their job seriously and dont joke alot
@@Akinwalesegun no, it's like saying you hope they take their job seriously and are funny.
29:25 don't forget the war rhinos
The most high-tech nation in the universe (MCU) rely on animal protection
This is another problem of a shared universe that even the actual comics have.
So many stories where the all powerful bad guys rule things from the shadows for centuries except they are more than one group and they somehow never met even though they all have the same tactics, for instance the Ten Rings, HYDRA and now the Skrulls all sending agents, well, how lucky that the Hydra agent being actually controlled by the Ten Rings didn't know that his boss was actually a Skrull in disguise.
Honestly, it’s more believable than Razorblade in the comics who has his blade arm constantly out and exposed everywhere at all times
I think in the comics both his arms are blades as well so that’d make day to day like like he was Edward Scissorhands
In the comics it isn’t even detachable it’s just THERE always
This is one of the few instances the MCU actually makes a character more powerful and versatile than their comic book counterparts
Shang chi should've basically been damian wayne personality wise considering how he was raised
But nope
49:19 Madvocate saying “this one is just a truck.” The camera is actually on the garage exit but you can only see the truck as it has just crashed
Wenwu is actually a genius cause his “planning” allowed for the plot to even happen
