    So George wanted more seasons with 10 episodes, HBO wanted more seasons with 10 episodes, the audience wanted more seasons with 10 episodes but Dumb and Dumber were like: nah we're tired of being involved with one of the most popular tv shows ever, let's just cut every corner possible and rush through the last 3 seasons. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?! And the irony is, they also wanted to move on to different projects yet they haven't done anything since GoT.

      I don’t get it either. The Long Night could have very well been an entire season long, or at least a few episodes. Nope, just one night where tons of characters are put in peril, but are seemingly fine in the next scene.

      Yet, I don’t understand why they get the blame. Did they own the rights to the show? Was it not legally possible for HBO to simply tell them that there would be at least ten seasons, and that if they did not want to do it, HBO would find someone who did?

Alot more could have been taken from the book like Eyron Greyjoys attack on the shield islands in the Reach or maybe in the show have had him attack the Arbor and destroy the Reach's Naval power. The one thing that could have actually been a really good part of the story would have been Young Griff and Jon Connington attacking the Stormlands with the Golden Company.

      Cutting out material was necessary because books and tv have different timing plus in the books there are much darker and/or unnecessary aspects that objectively cannot be brought into tv (nothing shocking but still not tv material).
      I wouldn't like to watch a show that is 100% the same as the books, it would frankly be tedious and boring (that's why we still have both books and tv).

In books 4 and 5, George completely opens up the world of ASOIAF to show that it's so much bigger than a simple civil war between different families. The show does the opposite, condensing two massive books into one lazy season that takes away some of the best moments from the whole series (Davos' storyline, Dorne, proper Euron Greyjoy, most of Brienne's quest, Zombie Lady Catelyn, etc.).

    Writing is a hard job. Especially when you have a complex story like ASOIAF. I don’t blame him for not finishing but they shouldn’t have rushed the story. If they probably went ahead and went through with the Author’s wishes on 12-13 seasons he probably would’ve finished the books by that time and it can be adapted. Also by taking his advice as well by not leaving things out from his story. They had enough material. By now the show would’ve been entering it’s 11th season. Also it might be taking long because he might be unmotivated from what happened to his story on screen. Just the main point is that you ALWAYS listen to the author. You do what he says and etc. If you think you can’t handle it then don’t do it or hand it to someone else. Their egos though is what stopped them and that’s what backfired. I also heard rumors Winds Of Winter is coming out by 2023. So maybe I’m wrong or not but it’s completely understandable when you think about it.

Really, how dies Martin expect 2 TV guys to put out the high quality writing when he cannot do it ahead of the series? With all of Martin's past TV experience how did Martin not realize this would become a problem? D & D were not dedicated in-depth fantasy writers and Martin chose them himself. not really, you can't really blame lack of material when you hack and cut major plotlines to begin with. Young Griff would have added more seasons, but D&D decided to cut him, there's loads of material that got cut that would have extended the show immensely, season 8 itself was at least 2 seasons slammed into each other, later seasons just invented a magic teleporter since apparently travel time doesn't exist anymore, an episode starting in the north and having all our main characters save like 3 being in KL for the very next episode is in itself cutting so much out of the show.

    D&D ruined what could have been the greatest television show of all time through their greed and arrogance. This wasn’t just their show, it also belonged to HBO, GRRM, the cast, the crew, and the millions of fans around the world, and they rushed the ending because they wanted to move onto other projects but they didn’t have the integrity to pass GoT over to someone else and let them finish it properly. The fact that they made massive deals with both Netflix and Star Wars at the same time just goes to show how greedy they are, and how they don’t care at all about committing to doing one thing and doing it right. I’m glad Star Wars cancelled their deal with them, and I hope Netflix does too. I hope they never get a job in Hollywood again, I hope they lose every penny they made from GoT, and I hope one day HBO remakes the entire ASOIAF series, with competent show runners who are committed to seeing the show through correctly from start to finish.

    There was a fatal flaw baked into the narrative from the outset: were the White Walkers the main threat, or was the factional infighting the main theme? The show went with the Iron Throne and dispatched the White Walkers in such a way as to make all that came before an irrelevance. The entire Night King plot pissed me off more than anything. So much was left unanswered, and having Arya do the deed instead of Jon made zero sense. I can't revisit this world knowing how cruddy the pay-off is compared to the time invested. That's a shame because the first three seasons were amazing.

    I always felt (with the story the show told) that if the last 2 seasons were full seasons (an extra 7 episodes) things would have been better paced and more fleshed out. I also think that if Danny had seized king's landing prior to the battle with the dead, it would have been a more interesting narrative if a fragile alliance were to be maintained in order to defeat the night king and then the sudden plot to kill Danny after, would have felt more neutral of a backstab (both ways) rather than just from Danny.

    • @itsmj3103
      @itsmj3103 Рік тому

      That's how I always imagined it would go, and you would have to plan the Long Night very well, and make the Prince that was promised play out really smart, since a dragonrider would be absolutely needed to defeat the Night King (fuck that Arya bs, although I always have and always will like her character) since the dragonrider would have to unite all of Westeros. And that just has to be Jon, he has to lead the final battle with his heritage, something that is central to his character, and come on top as deserving after all, which is supposed to be his arc. And I think Winterfell has to fall in battle, since they can't reach a consensus fast enough in all Westeros, and this pushes Jon to follow his fate, maybe still giving it up when it's all over. This could all be achieved without changing much to how they originally did it, just add more seasons, add more story intricacy and depth, make it a great sturggle with a lot of sacrafices to reach these ultimate goals. Break our goddamn hearts 😆

    The problem is that Martin also don't seem to be in a hurry to finish his series and by not doing so, it will be forever remembered by the shitty ending on the show.

    I feel like what was in the last couple seasons could have actually worked on a writing level if we had more time spent on established concepts, I think that’s the issues, it’s not that they are bad ideas, they where just rushed and had no time to breathe.

    So why didn't HBO change showrunners? Long-running series do that all the time because they recognize that the people making it have lives and haven't promised their immortal souls to one project. Everyone's putting a lot of blame on D&D, but who was responsible for not letting them out when they were getting tired of the series and forcing them to write a finale they were no longer invested in?

    • @tonichan89
      @tonichan89 2 роки тому +2

      I'm not sure if it's true, but there is a claim that there was blackmail involved to let them be showrunners in the first place - they made a (apparently) very bad season one pilot that had to be completely redone with new casting... and HBO didn't want them, but were allegedly blackmailed by Benioff into giving them another chance. I don't know if there could be a similar reason to why they couldn't replace them, but it's a *theory*... to be taken with a fistfull of salt, but still. It's very strange that they didn't replace them, even though Benioff and Weiss didn't want to hand the show off to someone else (cus they allegedly were very possessive of it out of ego)... but why would HBO comply? It's a big hmmm for sure.

      It is most likely the reverse! HBO probably blackballed them from ever writing or producing ever again! They got fired by Disney before they even got the chance to start the new Starwars trilogy! HBO might of had a hand in that! I don't see anyone ever hiring or taking those two seriously ever again!
