Anyone take olanzipine have any side effects luckily I'm off all meds now but alot of me is dead and every day is hard no joy at all could be side effect from drugs worst thing never had a mental illness just went thru a bad time in my life but these drugs have taken away any life just hope good diet and a bit of exercise I can do (cause drugs have made my body so stiff and rigid) gets me back my life.i can't see how drugs can help with schsoprenia they just completely fried my brain lost a lot of memory and muscle memory worst time of my life.

In understanding some of the basic principles of Acceptance Commitment Therapy; I have learned that the brain has a tendency to venture into a negative style of thinking. I believe understanding this concept and gradually trying to dissociate myself from such negative thoughts and feelings that would become associated; is an important step towards balancing my perceptions towards a much more tolerable level.
For some reason I have rarely found any loose associations in my speech. I think I might have a milder case of the thought disorder. When I hear examples of loose associations, I find them almost hard to believe because I’ve never actually seen them occur in real life. Perhaps I do them without realizing it?
Loose associations isn't about jumping to "completely different" topics, it's literally loosely associating ideas. For instance, "I went to the store to buy bread" (bread) "and I had a hot dog the other day." (dog) "I like my neighbor's cat."
his definition of clanging isn't right either, clanging is rhyming words not necessary words that sound alike (cents/sense). "I like to play ball in the hall because I'm so tall."
I'm on Risperidone (1mg) daily. It's pretty much the go-to antipsychotic for dealing with schizophrenia/psychosis. It works by blocking the dopamine receptor ('D2') that's thought to trigger episodes/symptoms in schizophrenics. I've been doing pretty well on Risperidone, in general. I haven't had any audible hallucinations (mine sound like distant whispers 'narrating' me), or any psychotic breaks in reality, in awhile. You might want to bring up Risperidone to your doctor if he hasn't already brought it up to you. Haven't experienced any major side-effects with it, other than occasional fatigue. Another popular 'go-to' antipsychotic is Clozapine (not to be confused with Clonazepam/Klonopin). But I haven't any experience with that one. Hope this helps!
mmmmm for me the only other side effect of the medication WAS emotional flatening, i had the various up and downs in my life but the drugs stoped my emotions from going up and down and making my emotions bland and also gave me lack of motivation, where i was very motivoted before taken the drugs, i was a prolific music recording artist untill the drugs took away my motivation to wannt to get down to recording as i used to do, ,the compleat opersite of what this guy claims, perhaps he could actuarly talk to some people on these drugs. cheers carl

I thought it may be useful to specifically elaborate on the additional receptor actions of the atypical antipsychotics such as Histaminergic, Seretonergic, Noradrenergic effects and how this explains their individual side effect profiles. Also, for completion, it may be useful to mention the partial agonist aripiprazole , as this medication is again slightly different from the other atypicals.
Are these really the symptoms schizophrenia or rather the antipsychtoic induced symptoms in those people labeled schizophrenia. I suspect it's latter than former
I got ten minutes into the video before my mental illness made me have to stop, and even that is massive progress. The why of it is tricky. It probably starts with an ADD reaction, but my ADD is mild and could be overcome if it were only that, but ever since the onset of what has been diagnosed as schizophrenia and particularly ever since a traumatic event, the ADD reaction now triggers other reactions, which are too intense and complicated for me to understand fully or describe accurately. Stress, fear, anxiety, anguish, are all involved, but I can't figure out the why and how of it. It's totally crippling. It makes doing the dishes hell, and for years I lived under other people's care and I only barely get by on my own now. I never really had hallucinations and my delusional thinking I have mostly gotten under control, so I'm a rather odd schizophrenic if I am one, but this one symptom is ruining my life. I'm getting pretty poor treatment in lower Alabama, and can't much afford anything else as I am living on disability, but if anyone has any ideas for how I might better resolve these issues and treat this so that I might get back to a normal life, I would appreciate it immensely. I've lost 6 years to this illness and don't want to lose another one.
Hi! It has been a couple of years since you posted this so hopefully you're doing a lot better. Just wanted respond to your request for any information from anyone else who has dealt with the crippling symptoms of fears, anxieties and mental anguish. I experienced these symptoms for years, and pretty much lived in my room (isolation) at my mom's place when not in the hospital. Falling into despair ultimately led me to seek to end my life. But something struck me in that moment on the edge of despair, and I vowed to take my life back from schizophrenia. It started with that change in mental attitude, from only seeing negatives and hopelessness, to choosing to fight for every inch of my life. I went from crying, "why me?" To realizing the real question was, "why not me?" So my mindset switched from victim to fighter. Life gives suffering, but it's what I do with the pain that determines the outcome, and not the suffering itself. Suffering can be as a cocoon for a caterpillar to transform into a butterfly. Or it can be a darkness that devours and destroys. The choice is ours what we make of it. So for 5 mins at a time (that was all my heart could stand) i went out and sought to converse with my mom, instead of waiting for her to come visit me in my room after her day of work. And I hated these visits because they agitated my mind and stressed me greatly. But when she came home, I left my room and willing made myself uncomfortable. So it became a mind that had a goal and choosing a path to this goal. It so happens the only path forward laid within the "fire." So consistently and WILLINGLY exposing myself to the stressors, made them less stressful over time ; and 5 minutes increased to 10 minutes, and from 10 to 15 and it went like that until I jumped from being able to comfortably talk from 30 mins to 1 hr; and then I went outside and sought strangers to push me up against that comfort zone again. I systematically took back my life. Today I'm 100% recovered from the anxieties, and by employing similar strategies i eradicated schizophrenia itself from my mind and my life. It was all mindset; from victim to conqueror. I was a willing participant, and that made the difference, along with my intentions of going forward. So failure wasn't an option. If I fell, I got back up and tried again and kept trying and trying. I kept pushing until I broke through. I was diagnosed with treatment resistant paranoid schizophrenia with delusions of grandeur. I was also tormented by persistent repetitive blasphemous intrusive thoughts, and persistent cursing. It was like tourette syndrome but of the mind. The doctors saw this as lifelong and placed me on permanent disability with no expectations for me to live on my own. In fact, they recommended my mother placed me in a long-term care facility. Today, I'm married and have my red seal in the electrician trade. The battleground is the mind, and we have to make our stand there or else we'll be overcome by the illness and all that it employs. This was what I understood, and it's how I did the impossible, and won the war. Anyway, hoping you no longer need any of this because you've found your way. If not, hopefully you or others find this even a little it helpful and/or hopeful along your journey to recovering and reclaiming your lives.

A new primary diagnosis of OCD and maybe a little schizoaffective has helped, as has EMDR therapy, but I haven't found a helpful medication. I struggle to do anything, deal with sporadic episodes of high paranoia/anxiety/depression, and struggle with Alabama care. My relationships suffer from my struggles but...less. I slowly improve. But I'm tired and so are they.

Is there any link between caffeine overintake/practical abuse (upwards of 300 mg a day) and schizophrenia? I used to be a literal caffeine junkie until my recent psychotic break about a month ago and I’ve tapered well off to caffeine free Cola and occasional caffeine Cola. Seems like I’m always craving stimulants.
all i want to say here is that i was diagnosed as schizaphrinia, age 18 y.o. now 59 y.o.,in a nut shell it was succesfully treated with antiphsycotics, no voices / halucinations, which i had before, first drugs given to me had absolutly awfull side effects now on drug [ olanzapine ] with no side effect for me, except wieght gain which for me is the least of 2 evils.. so these drugs, can, well in my case do work. cheers.carl
Neuroleptics do not have a causal or a specific effect, they only have a non specific psychoactive effect such as sedation und strong perception screening.
I was diagnosed with Schizo affective and I definitely have anhedonia and emotional flattening. It sucks, and I've tried many different kinds of meds and it wont go away

In order to fit the diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia, you need only one of three defining symptoms: delusions, hallucinations, and/or disorganized speech. You can still meet the diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia and not have hallucinations; hallucinations are not the sole defining factor of schizophrenia. For instance, if you have every other symptom, and have delusions, then you would still have schizophrenia. The same goes with disorganized speech. Schizophrenia is not experienced all the same way; many people experience it in different ways. Not everyone who has it hallucinates, and just so, not everyone who has it has delusions.

My daughter was diagnosed of schizophrenia 15 years ago, over those time, I spent more time in hospital than out of hospital without much improvement.
