Yep, been looking for someone who's doing this kind of thing with the Summit! Left to my own devices I always just come up with the same FM'ed to death wobbly distorted raging patch, that is not too useful for many things! This is great. Subscribed.
Haha exactly! I kept accidentally creating an organ (a bad sounding one) so I figured I might as well at least try to do something intentional with it. Thanks for watching.
Clarifications: I mentioned using a "moderate decay" but as the sustain on this patch is at 100 percent, the decay level doesn't matter (Whoops!)... Also, if you have an expression pedal I strongly recommend using it to control volume for each oscillator and using the aftertouch for a quick pitch vibrato to throw into your playing occasionally.
Yeah this is really good stuff James please keep it going when you can make them :-) OOooow... an entire series based across lots of styles of sounds... Time allowing :-)
Wow! Fabulous And you played the target sound first! That’s SO important. Much appreciated. I was actually considering selling my summit, because I couldn’t get to the sounds I want. This video saved from selling it and breathed new life into this amazing synth for me.😊👍
Wow, please tell that to Novation! ;-) but really I'm so glad these videos have helped. In a way they're kind of a journal of my own efforts to figure things out. It's a creative process and I still hit a wall lots of days.
Hi James, my apologies if this comes through as a duplicate - I’m not sure if the first time I posted this went through. Would you be willing to provide some hints and tips to me to re-create Jack Casady‘s bass sound on Jefferson Airplanes White Rabbit? I’ve made attempts at it and I’m getting in the ballpark but I could use a little guidance - I’m starting with a sawtooth on OSC 1 range 8 and OSC 2 range 16 and I’m thinking I’m wanting to add some percussive effect as you show here as well as some LFO for a little movement kind of like a little rumble and some distortion - I think he’s overdriving his amp a bit and of course reverb. it sounds OK but I think it’s missing some of the analog “warmth” I’m going try adding that in next. My understanding is he did this on a fender jazz bass - e.g. not using any active electronics (yet) - and I can re-create the sound on my jazz bass, but in the summit is another matter. As a part of learning, I’m trying to re-create some of the classic 60s and 70s stock/folk/blues sounds. Any help is appreciated!
I wish I could suggest more than stacking voices, trying various mono modes, bit of distortion, and maybe velocity control over release time but I'm not sure and I'm a couple thousand miles away from my Summit for the next year or so, sadly!

James you're a true gentleman! Very informative, great sounding patches, all free and with deep dive into the how and why! Thanks so much!
Glad it's helpful! Making these videos forced me to learn a lot so it's a win-win. Cheers!
Really digging this series. Great stuff!
Thanks so much and glad you're enjoying it!

Thank you very much.
Your sound creation process is very helpful.
With thanks from Japan.
I'm glad it's helpful for you! Wish you all the best in your sound journey!

I'll be trying! It's a lot of fun for me and forces me to learn this stuff a little better. Thanks!
Wow! Fabulous

very interesting video, big like! Greetings from Italy
Much appreciated! And hope all is well in Italy. Cheers!
Awesome man!
Thank you!
Having a synth is cool but being able to use all of its appartus is a whole new game.. and in combo with other synths.. etc
Indeed! Always more learning and experimenting to be done.
