Triumph Rocket 3 R | Full Road Test

- Triumph's Rocket 3 is unlike any other motorcycle in production. With a MASSIVE 2500cc triple roaring out 164hp and 221Nm of torque, it can move quicker than any bike its size has any right to.
I own one, just bought it, put 3k miles on it bringing it home from the store, west coast to TN. great trip. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Plan to do the four USA corners in a counter clock wise loop - FL, ME, WA, CA with her in the spring.
Funniest thing so far...
Having owned it for about 10 minutes, I thought, let's see what she can do. So I quickly twist the throttle and she does take off, well, like a rocket, so much so that as she pulls me aft, inadvertently twist the throttle even more, pushing me back even harder, thus even more throttle, more push... All the way to red line governor.
Riders are NOT kidding when we say "you better hold on, because she will take off in an instant and assume the rider knows what he/she is doing". I am positive with some practice, I will get sub 3 second 0-60 times. Accelerate now, ask questions later, assuming you have held on!!
I saw this bike today in the show...I fell in love instantly. I really want one.
I have a 2020 Rocket 3 GT version bought it last August prior to the Rocket i owned a Kwasaki GTR 1400 or Concours name here in Quebec and boy did the Rocket for me eclipse my Kawasaki the torque on the Rocket is something else and in my opinion torque on a motorcycle is where the fun begin and for me the Rocket is a keeper i bought a lot of bikes in my 40 years of riding all sort of bikes but the Rocket im gonna stick to it for a long time.
Stunning sounding and looking bike! Seems as smooth as butter to ride too. 😎
Smooth as!
I have a 2001 Speed Triple. And a 2021 Rocket 3 R. This is peak motorcycle, and peak motorcycle headlights! WTF you talking about hating it!? :D
Also, you're going way too slow for the Rocket's potential! Think I've scrapped pegs in the first two weeks of ownership, and you can barely see the cobras on the tyres anymore. Actually sold my 2021 R1 for the funds and space to own the Rocket, and one of the things that bothered me with the R1 were the chickenstrips. If you ride the Rocket, there's still about a centimeter before physical borders set int, on the R1 there was nearly 3cm before I ran out of abilities! Such a fun bike the Rocket is!
Hi, great review. NV Motorcycles in Morrinsville has the new Triumph GT Storm as a demo. It would be awesome to see you do a review of this bike. Always enjoy watching your reviews. 👍
Thanks mate. I’ll see if Shane wouldn’t mind me borrowing it for a quick spin, otherwise I might need to see if Triumoh nz has one.
Thanks for amazing video! Rocket- beauty
Thank you for the kind words!
Regarding the fuel cap , just dont bother locking it with the key just screw it down tight .
And, this motorcycle has what MOST motorcycles, including the suzuki hayabusa, don't have and that is 'steel braided brake lines' which will literally last forever; well maybe not forever but close enough...lol...
Nice! Awesome to see it move!!!
Boy can it move for a big thing!
I recently test rode a 2023 Rocket 3R and put it in Sport Mode... I was expecting more, based on the numbers. It ride nice and was impressive, but it honestly didn't seem all that fast. Granted, I am used to riding R1's and a ZX14R and stuff... But I figured it was gonna yank my arms out of their sockets and it just wasn't all that.
It definitely made the Speed Triple RR and Tiger 1200 I collected after it feel comparatively slow to me. Then again I am used to pootling around on a 250 😂
Its because its very limited from the factory. The throttle tables arent even set at 100%. If you give it full throttle in sport mode, itll still only throttle to 80% or so.
Guys are remapping their rockets and seeing almost 20hp gains!
@@NicePantsLance Yeah, I did a follow up video on that, opening up the base map in TuneECU and showing exactly how they restrict it and how you can unlock it yourself with an Android device.
@@NicePantsLance from what i've been told it's even less than that, it's limited to less than 60% in gear 1&2 and to 65% in 3 upwards. Seen these making 190hp after a remap and that fully unlocked gear 1&2 make the rocked monstrous compared to stock.
now if 190 isn't enough there are already supercharger kits allowing this thing to push 350+hp reliably.
You live in some damn nice surroundings, my friend. I just bought one of these a month ago, i fkng love it
Thanks mate. Definitely not many regrets moving down here from the big city. Enjoy the bike! They really are something else.
@OnThrottle I just moved out to the country myself a couple of years ago. Life is so different from the city. It's like being on another planet lol. Anyway.. enjoy.
🙂👍
Awesomeness 🙌
Do you see well the TFT panel when you ride on sunny day ? Honestly from close position with camara it was hard to see whats on the panel. Not at least when you wear a full helmet on the ride... Thanks for your answer.
Hiya, vision from helmet is pretty good, though I find the way this first generation of Triumph TFT to display info in a bit of a cramped manner. I’m hoping Triumph might add one of its newer TFTs to it in the next model update.
where did you buy those sticky tank covers?
It’s a press bike so they are Triumph parts. Hit up a Triumph dealer and they should be able to order them for you.
where is here????????
Karapiro, New Zealand.
How tall are you bud?
About 175cm
It must feels much much heavier than other cruisers............Its just too much power for a bike.
You only really feel aware of it’s mass when performing slow speed manoeuvres or tight turns surprisingly. And yes, it’s a ridiculous amount of power and torque, but it’s fun!
Too much power? Are you daft?
