They use Orchiata which typically lasts quite a bit longer than pine bark and since this seedling was probably potted only a year ago, the old Orchiata media should still be in good shape for another couple years.

I've never seen anyone pack the bark to that extreme don't you think it's a bit much

Just received a baby Cattleya yesterday, might have to go back with a stick and beat the bark medium to get it secure in the pot!
