As a 14yr old listening to the radio in bed and hitting record when I heard a song I liked this was the first time I heard cardiacs and it began an obsession and a life time of love and formed my musical taste ever since. RIP Tim and thank you to the ends of the earrth
Saw a mention of Cardiacs in a Sparks fan group on Facebook. Went to check them out. Came across this recording. Fell in love. Sometimes I'm glad the internet exists.
I agree. I was a teenager in the early 70s and wish UA-cam had been around then. As it happened it was all bloody Bay City Rollers and disco back then.
@@LudgerBW Same, but even in the 80's -90's when I was heavily into all kinds of weird shit I never (knowingly) heard of Cardiacs. I literally had Tarred and Feathered come up on my UA-cam feed a few months ago and I was absolutely blown away. What a journey I have had since then!
I always come back to this video and it makes me happy to see new people commenting at how amazed they are by this band. I implore all newcomers to absorb as much Cardiacs as tolerable, just make sure you have the time to indulge in a new obsession.
I watched mares nest for the first time about a week ago (1/5/21), that exact same feeling of fear, joy and total disbelief as to what I was witnessing, in fifty years of music appreciation, this tops the lot....
This is the only live version I can find of Dog-Like Sparky where the soundman doesn't sound like he's been poisoned before setting the mix on the board. Thank you for posting this!
I had a dog called Sparky. Wire haired terrier. Ran around my old caravan using the same path until it created a permanent walkway in the grass. I see this as a Cardiacs tribute....
Listening to them today is as mind blowing as the first time I heard is this the life. I rushed to the shops to buy the single, play it every week now. They sound like nothing else, Tim’s mind was like a circus, with every moving parts, colours flying, Catherine wheels, ever moving, explosions, words that somehow combined to make a sentence that barely made sense, but in the context of the song sounded like perfect poetry. Uniquely wonderful.
Wow I remember when this was broadcast and being blown away by this. Now I’m sharing this amazing work of art with my son, who is a drummer and also a music nerd. The cycle continues
I find it all spectacular that they are able to perform these songs flawlessly live. The musicianship and songwriting is otherworldly. RIP Tim you mad genius.
Thank you for uploading this! The sound quality is fantastic and performances are mind-blowing...as is to be expected from the greatest band of all time. Listened to these songs hundreds of times and still cannot wrap my mind around how it is possible to write such masterpieces, let alone perform them. Words cannot describe the love I have for this music.
absolutely wonderful immortal pockets of proof that humans were ok for a short fleet amongst the vastness of the multiverse and infinite. p`retty cool!!
John Peel didn't hate them! John Walters, his producer, hated them. John Peel had the sneak The Sea Nymphs in for a session...and he got away with it. Heh heh.
0:32 Dog-Like Sparky
5:20 Firey Gun Hand
10:36 Random Banter
12:38 Buds and Spawn
19:30 Nurses Whispering Verses
Thank you
Doing God's work.
is Jim the most underrated bass player of all time or what!?
Incredibly good bassist, such great tone, the bass boost on this recording is perfect.

Good lad
Adam my friend, I had the same experience but when much older. Count yourself blessed you found Cardiacs with many years ahead to enjoy them. RIP Tim.
Thank you Tim for a super musical education, R.I.P.
I was the same age. Only band from my youth I still listen to.
I discovered these guys on Friday May 6th 2022. And I'm ashamed of myself. Delicious.

@SilverfoxJB It's the same here as your journey. It was coming across Tarred and Feathered on UA-cam that got me into them as well. What a group.
Floored by the quality of the audio and the preciseness of the band... Unreal performance...

Just gone down the Cardiacs rabbit hole. I haven't felt like this about a band since I was a teenager - hell, I didn't think it was possible anymore.
my ears just came.
The only band to ever make me cry tears of absolute Joy...God Bless Tim and Cardiacs!!!!

Tim's practically screaming into the mic, giving us pure distortion. It works really well!

One hell of a band. It this was a live session then it beggers belief cos damn, they're just incredible.

This is the holy grail of radio sessions. Magnificent. Awesome of you to post this homosafari. Hoping against hope for Tim to get well.
"Forceps babies were you?"
"No, we're individual."
"Looks like it."

Astonishing. Breath-taking. THE best band.
Incredibly skilled musicians. Just to perform these songs live. God bless ya' Tim! x

I swear I can’t stop this music. It has to flow in any circumstance. Sacred to hearing existence.
Makes you speechless indeed. Complex academic compositions packed as raw rock music. An impossible combination except for Tim Smith.
Maybe the best version of Nurses I’ve heard outside of the live shows of the early nineties.
You lovely Timeless Genius Tim! X 23:35
Beautiful. RIP Tim. :(
OMG, that Buds and spawn version...
Incredible.
Even WITH Jim forgetting a chunk of the bass part 😂❤
Greatest "album" ever!!!
Some one cruel broke my tape of this, now I am happy, thank you.
That must have really hurt.
- Forceps babies?
- No, all individual.
Bless you, Timmy
One of the best ever. EVER!
Tim was always so, so funny.
What a fucking legend.
Thanks for posting, RIP Tim, what a genius.
If I had only heard of them.
Small town college area then,
Hipster sanctuary now.
Just one incredible audio trip.

The voice at the beginning sounds a bit like voice actor for 2D from Gorillaz )
Amazing live ❤

But do you believe in big strong daddy legs?

How in god's name does someone think up music like this?...I thought for the longest time it started and ended with Zappa, plainly I was mistaken....
I'm a FZ fanatic too and Tim has become my "English" Zappa...although I listen to way more Cardiacs these days though :)
12:05 lol

Shocked me that john peel hated them .... mmmmm
John Peel didn't hate them! John Walters, his producer, hated them. John Peel had the sneak The Sea Nymphs in for a session...and he got away with it. Heh heh.
This is incredible
