Imagine being a metal head who has no idea who Cardiacs is but loves him some Voivod and Municipal Waste so he clicked in expecting something extra brutal but instead hears this and he's like "what the fuck did I just watch and why is it so catchy?" And then he proceeds to get his mind blown looking up the rest of the Cardiacs catalog. Mission accomplished.
I've only been a fan of Cardiacs since Tim died. I'm amazed at how fucking loved they were by so many people, yet they seem like music's best kept secret. I love it!
@@zeitok8 I didn't. I'll admit a lot of bands fly over my head for a long time. We like what we like and get there in there in the end. Seems like a cruel joke to get into some bands so late.
0:14 I like how Jim appears right in the time that he appeared in the original video of "Tarred and Feathered". Nice to see HIM playing this lovely shit again.
These immaculate creatures doing immaculate things and Jim amongst them doing Jim things. The pains of existence and loss do not get much more soothed than this.
I also can't watch this without crying and smiling. "It makes me sad that one day all of us here will be dead". So no, I won't relax too much now but will go out into the world and try and pass on the joy that Tim Smith passed to me.
There's a good reason we never saw Jim smile too much. If we did, we may never recover from the pureness. It's nice to see him smile. I really hope he's okay. Always seemed like a great bloke to hang out with outside of the whole Cardiacs lore & persona. They all did.
Only discovered and got into Cardiacs midway through 2020, and I'm chuffed to see how much love there actually is for the band behind the mainstream veil. This cover is a massive and spectacular accomplishment, and a great tribute to Tim. Well fucking done, guys! Even got Jim to smile :D
Music is a really incredible thing - all these people keeping Tim's spirit going, Dan Mongraine of Voivod keeps Piggy's spirit alive through his playing in the same way, the knowing smile by Jim at the end... music is freakishly beautiful in a way that so clearly transcends the material realm, and this is a gorgeous example of that.
Awesome. Voivods Dan Mongraine has been repping the Cardiacs hard for years. I only got into them recently, just before Tims death. Brilliant band. Great tribute. I love that a good portion of these musicians are known for extreme metal, yet they clearly have such reverence for Tim’s work. And including Jim was a master stroke.
I didn’t discover Cardiacs until far too late - October, 2020. “Tarred and Feathered” appeared in my timeline with a sad-looking Jim in the thumbnail. On a whim, I clicked it and instantly became Cardiacs-obsessed. The next couple weeks I spent devouring any and all things Cardiacs. This loving tribute brought a huge smile to my face, a tear of joy to my eye (especially at 2:53), and brought things full circle. A great big thank you to all involved in creating this incredible work of art.
I discovered them after someone commented "Sounds like Cardiacs" on A Winny Puhh vid (they don't but hey, nothing actually does), and it was instant obsession. Like "Where the fuck has this band been all my life", shortly before discovering that Tim Smith was critically ill, and like so many of my favorite bands I had discovered them a little too late to ever see them in their full live splendour. Oh well.
That was about the time the YT video was being recommended, for some reason. I also clicked on it , but earlier and on August 17th instead, when the video only had about 440k views.
I remember the first night I discovered Cardiacs, about 14 years ago, at 1 am or something. It was like being electrocuted. For the next few days I felt like I was on speed.
Fun fact: Shane Embury was wearing a Cardiacs shirt during Napalm Death's "Live Corruption" show recorded at the Salisbury Arts Centre on June 30th 1990 🙂
Funner fact: Cardiacs recorded their own concert film/live album ("All That Glitters Is a Mares Nest") in the same venue earlier on that afternoon. Both bands shared the same manager, Mark Walmesley.
This is just such a wonderful tribute, astonishingly faithful to the original, yet so completely other...everyone who had a hand in this deserves a place in heaven.
I've watched this several times now and I've only now caught on to how perfectly Shane is dressed up, would have fit in without a doubt with the six-piece Cardiacs years
Everyone involved in this video is worthy of laudation in perpetuity. This was the video that got me through lockdown and made me a Child Bite fan for life. And let's not talk about Jim's smile lest I start crying again...
AHH, every time I watch this I am taken back to watching various bits of "Seaside Treats" on YT almost two decades ago now and becoming irreversibly and irrevocably addicted. Now I am someone who generally has problems naming their favourite of *anything* but I am absolutely unabashedly able to say that Cardiacs are my favourite band. I just wish I was able to see them live before it all went wrong 😭
Thank you! Icame across the original cardiacs video five years ago and it opened my eyes, I thought I had already seen and heard all rock music has to offer, but I realised no, no I have never seen it all. There is always something more inventive and insane and brilliant behind the corner. Respect to Tim Smith and all Cardiacs members and everyone involved in this video! Love from Finland!
Im another person who discovered Cardiacs too late but like pretty much everyone else here I loved this tribute to our Leader of The Starry Skies. The biggest legacy is the rest of the music of course but this made me smile. Full respect to all involved, and happy listening to the rest of us :) RIP Tim.
It's all been said... The talent, effort and multiple skills that was put into creating this, from concept to delivery is utterly wonderful - a real labour of love. Thank you, thank you x
Aw, Jim. My phone spat a load of dust into my eyes throughout the whole of this video and I have no idea why. Just thought I'd warn you all in case it makes your eyes sting.
I seem to have been safe watching this video, but I was going to eat an orange after and it jetstreamed orange juice straight into one of my eyes. Yeah be careful guys, this video might be cursed
To Tim - our leader of the starry skies. This makes me cry and smile and shiver at the same time. Outstanding. Thank you for this genius and brilliantly exercised idea
I discovered the CARDIACS when they appeared on The Tube in the late 1980s. I was about 15 I think & I remember talking to my mate Dean ( who introduced me to my still favourite band EXTREME NOISE TERROR) about their appearance on the show. Neither of us knew what it was we had seen or what it had really done but it was definitely one of those positive kind of "What the fuck is this?" moments. Then I remember seeing NAPALM DEATH bassist Shane Embury wearing a CARDIACS t-shirt either on the back of a NAPALM DEATH or UNSEEN TERROR record or in a magazine interview. I never bought anything by them back then as I was spending all my money on hardcore crustpunk d-beat grindcore black death thrash metal though back then to me it was either hardcore thrash or punk. My point being that little CARDIACS tribute was great & made me grin from ear to ear & now at 52 however many years later I'm going to check out their other stuff on UA-cam. Cheers
I recently started listening to Cardiacs because of Dan Mongrain and Shane Emburys endorsement, so to see the two of them doing this makes me very happy.

As I always say, "welcome to your new favorite band "
That's currently me. I so fucking love discovering some unique/weird music like that.
Yep, happened to me about 8 months ago. Best thing that happened to me in 2020 was discovering Cardiacs.
Not much of a surprise for us Voivod fans. They had Angel Rat after all.
Welcome brother.
Jim’s smile at the end just made me smile and cry at the same time. Beautiful x

It's just perfect!

Jim's smile is everything the world needs

Absolutely! Just found this and it made my evening.

JIM! JIM! JIM! JIM! JIM! JIM! JIM! JIM!
Several elderly men and a horse play music that hasn't aged a day. I love it.
I don't think Cardiacs ever operated within the confines of the contemporary. Besides, true art is ageless.

Worthy of laudation.
The accordion works so well and is probably my favorite part of this cover. Really amazing.

This is the best cover/tribute I've ever heard! Amazing work from everyone! Glad to see Jim too 🙂
This is absolutely awesome and heart-warming, played with balls and fun... Magic! And there's Jim smiling.
