  • In this video we discuss epidural and spinal neuraxial blocks. Starting with a definition of epidural and spinal anesthesia, common locations and surgical indications for an epidural or spinal neuraxial block. Next, is a discussion of common post-operative assessment and complications to anticipate post a spinal or Epidural block and common nursing interventions to manage such complications. A basic dermatome assessment review and tools used to perform this assessment is discussed as well as the pathway of autonomic sensory and motor loss and regain after a spinal neuraxial block.

    Extremely helpful! I work on an ortho/ trauma floor, so we seldomly see epidurals. I didn't have them but it hit me that if I had, I'd seriously need to review epidurals. This was an incredibly helpful refresher. Thank you!
