    "Wherever we are we’ ll be with you, we’ ll never forget shining starlight, wherever you are live in my heart, we’ ll never forget shooting star"
    It's indeed a tribute to the guitarrist that died earlier this year, and as a matter of fact, a farewell to Yui.
    I'm really sad that she left the band, but apparently her health was the factor that made her left, but I'll still with Su and Moa (and I hope she get more main vocals as a duo)

      Exactly this. My first impression was 'This is repetitive and kind of doesn't go anywhere', but listening to it on a less grumpy mood it instantly grew on me because of the optimism in it. When I started singing along the chorus I finally understood what the song was... A gentle yet heartfelt goodbye. It's a simple song with a simple melody but that's why it works; the repetition growing in intensity almost pleadingly expresses that feeling of strongly wanting to hold onto the memory of a loved one not with pain and tears, but with gratefulness and hope. And I think SU-METAL executes this perfectly.

    I am with you about the band. I was a fan before i found out Yui left and am still a fan after. To me as long as Su is the lead singer then it is still Babymetal. The band i know they swap out some guitarists. But the band was formed with Su in mind. I will miss her but i understand her leaving. They have to be in 100% to perform for the shows. I think this song is going to be like distortion in that i think live is going to sound better. We will find out next week since the tour starts in Japan Tuesday.

      I agree. I do feel as though there is still something important missing from the band. But Yui's health is more important. I will continue to support the band. Who knows? She could potentially come back. There have been bands where founding members left for whatever reasons then eventually came back. Doesn't always happen but it does happen. I wish nothing but the best for her and the rest of the band.

      I am with you getting sick of hearing "fans" say they cant listen to Babymetal anymore. Yui was a part of the band but she decided she couldn't go on and needed a change. I am glad I got to be part of her life thru the band but to say you cant listen since she left is ridiculous. I know Koba has a plan and this is why the video to distortion and now starlight are tied together and the next chapter starts.

    Hang on, I thought this was the fourth song from the coming album: Starlight, Distortion, Tattoo, Elevator Girl. How or where did you find out that Elevator Girl and Tattoo won't be on the new album?
    Starlight is indeed epic. Great melody, fantastic vocals, supreme instrumentation, ... Can't wait to hear the rest.
    As for Yui...
    Of course, it's sad to see her go. But the sadness is quickly replaced by excitement, for Yui and for BABYMETAL.
    She gets to choose her own destiny, and I wish her all the best with whatever she decides to do. And there's nothing but a great sense of gratitude for what she has shared with us so far. We have all been privileged, by undoubtedly great sacrifices she must've made to her personal life, in bringing us so much joy.
    Sure, probably wasn't a bad paying job. But, knowing what being on the road means, it's a whole lot tougher than it looks.
    And BABYMETAL too gets to evolve further, can continue to grow, and will re-invent themselves once again.
    I look forward to see what the future will bring.
    And if I ever feel nostalgic, well, that's what recording is for: so we can listen back to whatever we want.
    The only negative thing about this entire episode, is the needy fans who can't seem to respect the choices of the people they say they adore.
    And I've noticed a double standard: "without Yui, it's no longer BABYMETAL, so I'm out!"
    I see... Why didn't you react that way when BABYMETAL lost Mikio Fujioka? He was as much what made BABYMETAL what they were as Yui. And the loss was just as painful... If not, more painful, because there's no way for Mikio to return...
    Back then, BABYMETAL bounced back. And they will again now.
    Anyone who thinks it's all over... Well, one can only feel sorry for them. Because they ain't seen nothing yet ;)

    • @Varksterable
      @Varksterable 5 років тому +1

      That ^.
      I was obviously sad when Mikio was taken from us all. And a bit worried about the impact. It was, and still is, and will continue to be a great loss. But is it a reason to stop listening to a band that has completely changed my opinion of music for the first time in decades? Absolutely not. And they don't seem to be just bouncing back; they have jet packs!
      As for Yui, she was actually my favourite of the three when I started listening. It was the 'cute' in Kawaii metal which drew me in, and Yui has cute in bucket loads.
      But time passes, and things change. I'm don't think 'Kawaii Metal' is even vaguely appropriate for the new stuff BM are putting out. The band is so much drastically older, heavier (musically), and darker than Doki Doki or Iine, that those days seem like just a giggly bit of fun before things start to get real.
      Distortion left me cold at first, as did the other tracks. But a few listens to each of them, and I'm sure the custom mix I've had playing in my car CONSTANTLY for the last 2-3 years will be changing when the next album comes out.

  • @raccoonchild
    @raccoonchild 6 років тому +2

    As adorable as Yui was and as much as I love and look up to Moa, Suzuka's voice is the heart and soul of BABYMETAL. SU-METAL and yuyoyuppe are the main reason I follow BABYMETAL, and as long as they're involved with this project I'll keep looking forward to future releases. That said, please don't change any of the remaining Kami Band members...

  • @iainjmclaren
    @iainjmclaren 6 років тому +1

    Until now, I've only occasionally played Babymetal songs , such as 'Gimme Chocolate', for laughs and the jury was still out about how well cute smurf vocals can fit over a heavy backing track. However, with 'Starlight' my reaction was almost exactly the same as yours - remarking on the build up, the heavier riffs and the epic orchestration. For me, the darker vocal melodies gel better with the music than their previous offerings. In general, the concept of combining metal with other very different styles seems to me to be a positive way forward for the genre (Twelve Foot Ninja is another band that does this in an entertaining way). Plus, it's always fun to break out the pop-corn and read flame wars between fans of obscure sub-genres of metal arguing about what can and can't be included in each label.

    A lot of people believe they knew she was leaving and didn't say anything. I disagree with that. There was nothing to gain from being deceptive. Of course they knew it was a possibility and they made that clear a couple months ago. In Yui's personal letter to the fans she talked about how she has been mulling over this decision for a long time and that she really wanted to get back on the stage. It just didn't work out because she has not recovered enough from her injury or illness to perform at a high level. Until there is actual evidence to the contrary, I'm going to take Yui at her word and give the band the benefit of the doubt.
    The timing of the release and her resignation could be just to soften the blow a bit.
    Either way, great song and a great reaction, as always!

    • @MrFloppyHare
      @MrFloppyHare 6 років тому +18

      I completely agree. Everything points to the fact that it is exactly as they've been telling us. Too late, in some respects, and somewhat convoluted or clumsy at times but they were telling the truth. Yui has now also confirmed that herself. In stead of blaming Koba, management or Amuse, I applaud them for having given Yui the time to (try to) recover and figure out what she wanted.

    • @KingJobber
      @KingJobber 6 років тому

      The timing makes me really think she might have gotten pregnant lol. Japan really hides that stuff, a female wrestler known as Kana had to pretend she was injured after she got pregnant. It's been like 10 or 11 months since she left right? Either way I wish her the best in whatever she does next.

    • @jeffschreifels8651
      @jeffschreifels8651 6 років тому +11

      @King: Actually the timing makes that less likely. If she was pregnant this whole time she knew what the outcome was going to be long ago, barring a miscarriage. She would have already made her decision and would not have had to say anything about it. The other obvious point is, as she lives a more 'normal' life as Yui Mizuno, people are going to see her with a baby, so no sense in trying to hide it in the first place,

      +Jeff Schreifels I'm very much with you on this.

    On the last tour they had two more new songs, "Tattoo" and "Elevator Girl". No info beyond that you can hear them on UA-cam videos of the live concerts. Both much less hard. "Tattoo" is another Su-metal solo piece. The names are not even officially confirmed. They were captured from the soundboard labels at the concerts. They could be the working-titles. Though their choreographer used those names on her website. So there at least 4 new songs.
    I am not certain that Yui is not on the recordings. Studio recording is less arduous than Babymetal live. Would love to see the record credits. Especially since Starlight being a tribute song, one might think she'd want to be on it.

      Yui acheived many of her dreams with BABYMETAL, including performing 'Over the Future' with Suzuka.
      A translated quote from Yui:

      I actually agree. I think Yui was surprised and very, very appreciative of how the fans responded to her and the band during live shows, and I believe she did enjoy her time in BABYMETAL, but while every time I saw them live, she was always giving her absolute everything, and totally in the moment, but I remember making eye contact with her one time briefly during “The One” from the front row, and while she smiled genuinely, I don’t know...it still kinda stuck out that she was looking towards her next adventure, even though, again, she was totally giving her everything and being so appreciative. Just reading into nothing probably, but as both an introvert AND an empath, I just always remember that. I’m happy for her and the band though. They accomplished so much together, and I can’t wait to see what life brings to them all, both the bandmaster and Yui, and us fans, next :)

      I know moment of eye contact during a random concert means NOTHING, but again...sometimes you can read a lot about people in a fraction of a second. Pretty sure the Chosen Seven thing was to cover up for Yui's absence indeed, but I'm fairly certain they were expecting her to eventually return. Her leaving probably came as a pretty big shock to the band's management as well.

    Good reaction vid Chainsaw! A lot of the lyrics in Starlight are english, almost half it seems, but because we're used to Su singing in Japanese it may not be apparent. As for the new album, there's also "Tattoo" and "Elevator Girl", which are not as heavy. As for Yui, I think it's pretty likely that she just wasn't into metal and probably didn't think Babymetal would be so popular and didn't think she'd be doing it for so long. There was probably a health issue which forced the decision but I think she probably wanted to do other kinds of music more. It's sad for us, but she has to follow her dreams and I will support Mizuno Yui! I think Amuse knew there was a possibility of Yui leaving and were making preparations for it, but wanted to give her as much time as possible to fully make the decision, since they obviously didn't want it to happen.

    the song is a lot better than "distortion"; the verse is amazing, it has their usual energy and heavyness, it made me feel something like what I felt the first time I listened to "syncopation" "megitsune" or "headbanger". (the song as a whole is not as great as those, those are perfect, but it's good). I wish the verses were longer, I wish each verse had four sentences instead of two. anyway, I can't wait for a live version. they are always better live, for me the live versions are the definitive ones.
    it sucks that yui left, and it sucks how they managed the whole mess, it took them almost a year to tell us something we all suspected. I hope she gets better (if the health thing is true), and I hope the new album is good. I was worried because "distortion" is meh, "elevator girl" is horrible, "tattoo" is good but it's not as good as their usual stuff, but now this song gives me hope that the rest of the album can be good.
    they need a good album and to adjust a couple of things from their current live show to recover the momentum they had.

    No one knows what's going to end up on an album, obviously, but there are two more new songs we know (Elevator Girl and Tattoo) that are not that heavy.

    It would certainly appear that they are stepping away from the kawaii element and towards a more mature heavy sound. Love everything they have done in the past and where they are heading now.
    Let's face it, they are getting too old to be cute little girls anymore. They are growing up and their style needs to reflect that.

      As somebody who loves both "Love Me Do" and "Within You Without You" I understand that a band can change over time and still be a great band.
      I think I might miss the kawaii, though. For me, cuteness is what metal was missing.

      Sure, but growing up doesn't equal losing charm and/or becoming super serious. Akumu no Rondo wasn't kawaii but it was completely beautiful and enchanting (thanks yuyoyuppe). Karate had a kawaii component to it but above all it was motivational and badass (again, thanks Yuppe). BABYMETAL was cute, yes, but it was also hopeful, exciting, and whimsical, and I don't see why they should minimize or even abandon that just because the girls are adults now. Starlight gave me a little taste of the BABYMETAL I came to love, but from the impression I've been getting all year I think Koba is essentially ditching what made BABYMETAL fresh and special for something much less unique. And so I ask, who's actually winning from this? It's like an identity crisis the project's facing right now. I just hope they resolve this eventually... Also, let yuyoyuppe write more songs. Amen.

    Like some plp says, Yui can´t perform at fullest. Nobody knows the real real problem. Anyway the performances are physically very demanding, more than a lot of plp thinks.
    In some concerts from the "five god festivals" in Tokyo see looks very pale and serious and don´t smile much. His face looks a little swollen like she was taking some medication for the pain. Maybe it´s my imagination or maybe not but she performed very well, perfect as always but she looks "strange". I remember another concert years ago in the Budokan (2015 i think) when she falls from the stage in one of the songs (headbanger i think, the video on internet is for one of the days, the other when she falls is more difficult to find if you don´t have de dvd or bd) and she returns in the next song to dance, and the stage was pretty high. This girls also put 110% on stage whatever happens.
    And one thing. The producer put from the beginning of Babymetal a policy of "zero personal info". They have his private life and a public one. Also Yui technically by japanese law are still a minor and Japan laws are very protective for minors. Personal condition and health is a personal issue so nothing to says about this.
    She is still in AMUSE as actress and singer and maybe she´s going for a solo career and believe me, she can do it in Japan. She don´t have a "great" voice like Suzuka (only a few have one) but still good enough for this Japan market. By his letter, se try to recover to fullest. Nobody can ask for more.
    I have had many doubts about this song and how "breaks" the Babymetal style. I´m still not full convinced but after hearing a dozen of times... well, maybe i´m slow for this things but now i like it.

    There are 4 songs out for whatever the new album will be called. Two of them do not have videos but they were performed during the recent world tour. Tattoo and Elevator Girl. You can see a proshot video of Tattoo Girl from Rock On The Range and there are good fancams of Elevator Girl out there.
    As to this song, I really love the song, best of the 4 so far with distortion being the worse in my opinion. Did not care for the video however.

    I love this song. So far it’s my favorite of the two new ones we’ve gotten. And with regards from Yuichan leaving, I kinda figured this was going to happen when they first announced she wasn’t going to be on the American tour earlier this year. Yui loved to play shows in the United States, we are one of her favorite places to visit. I think in the beginning she really did want to come back to Babymetal, but she saw how poorly Amuse handled her situation, and probably felt like the agency didn’t care about her anymore because she wasn’t reliable health wise. So rather than be a burden to everybody, she chose to leave and focus on recovering from her health issues and start a new career under her own name, Yui Mizuno. And I totally support her decision, I’m happy that she’s taking care of her needs and not pushing herself too hard like so many in that industry do. I will always be a fan of Yui and Babymetal, no matter where their roads take them. :)

    The song is epic! All of BABYMETAL songs are epic. I think the world stage got to big for Yui. I think she wants to be a star, but only in Japan. I personally hope they replace her. If Su and Moa are okay with it. Hana Taguchi who was with Moa and Yui in Mini Patti would be a good choice. So would Saki Ooga. I'm sure in all of Japan girls with talent would love to step in for Yui. Regardless BABYMETAL lives on and I will support Su-Metal and MoaMetal.

    Not sure if the video was conceived and directed by the same people who made the Distortion video? Anyway my view is how does this relate to the song or BabyMetal in anyway? Appalling video as with Distortion but at least there is some footage of stars and the seven hooded figures.
    This will be a great live track and almost reaches the heights of tracks from the first two Cd's in my view. So far all the new tracks are shorter in length and I wonder if the remaining songs will be much the same as you suggest?
    From what I have seen and read so far, Yui is the only one to show any respect to the fans with her statement.

      With regards to the video, i think they are trying to set some kind of story as each year is a new babymetal "episode" with the previous world tour being episode 7. In all honesty their videos are meh and their recorded songs are usually over produced. But their live shows are out of this world!

    • @Glynthepin
      @Glynthepin 6 років тому +2

      I feel the recent songs were mixed by a computer programmer who follows an algorithm of how to mix a song. There does not seem to be any 'soul' in the mixes. As you say though, the live performances more than make up for this.
