- My hair is super straight (straighter than I am!) and I always curl my hair to create texture/wave/volume. I decided to have my hair permed again and this time we did Wellness Perm (I think it's just a fancy word for Cold Wave). What do my #Hairbesties think of my perm?

Looks great! I’m a hairstylist, Korean and have gotten perms the last 8 years or so and LOVE them! So versatile! Glad to hear you trying to get people on board with them again. I always say perms nowadays are not your grandmas perm!!

@@paige4114 any residual bleaching at all on the hair will not work with a perm and you can end up with a mess!
Paige I just permed a client last week. You absolutely do not perm hair that has been bleached.
@@paige4114 pretty sure that her hair is blonde now or she covered it up with black color. Which means she still has bleached hair under her now black hair. 35 yrs behind the chair. This is basic pro knowledge.

If you will zigzag the part when you wrap the perm it will blend out the lines of the parts seamlessly..
I have a question, aren't you supposed to leave your hair alone for several days after a perm, not wash or style with a curling iron. Won't that affect the final results?

Love your hair Guy! I get a perm every 2-3 years. I started off with a digital perm which I got in Colma, California (in 2012) and every few years I get a body wave. There are no digital perms where I live now. I have it done even out my mix texture hair ( texture 1 & 2) as well as make it easier to style daily.

I love watching you. I don't dye my hair, flat iron it maybe once a week. I even went months with doing nothing in hopes of my bangs to not look broken. I am 44 I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I am so sad. My bangs look broken even though I don't do anything damaging to it. Any advice?

Ok for real, one of my classmates in nursing school had the prettiest brown curly hair I had ever seen. It was long and the curls were these pretty little ringlets. Hi, Guy! You look great! FYI: in the 1980s, based on the width of the ceramic curlers/rods, this would have been called a "body wave". I've had two body waves in my life (one in the 1980s and one in the early 1990s), but the first one went frizz, and the second one went limp.
I really want a permanent wave, too. I would like an acid wave solution (preferably thioglycolate-free) that is safe for high-lift blonde and bleached hair (I have highlights). I want narrower curlers/rods than yours--maybe even bendy rods--medium width, and I want them wound for a spiral perm.

YOU LOOK AWESOME!!! I was in a band once ages ago, and the last time I got a perm I looked like Macy Gray... I had a big gig the next day... I have fine soft hair, and it got frizzy... and I wanted to look cool for the band, and I didn't look cool... but my hair takes in minutes, and my stylist friend talked me into 20 mins. and I was fried, lol

And my hair was done in a very reputable salon. My hair was halfways down my back and had to be cut a pixie, lost it all 😪

A perm made my hair fall out...it was horrible was always tangly and the curls barely lasted a couple weeks
Dal Bro the person probably did it wrong and it’s really hard to do it even for professionals
there are different kinds of perms suited to different types of hair / desired outcomes. Acid based, alkaline, and heat perms. They couldve used the wrong one for your texture, like alkaline perms are only for super healthy virgin hair, acid perms can be used on thin or lightly processed hair, not super bleached like they said, etc. You should only leave it in just long enough for the hair to show it started taking the curl pattern, neutralize thoroughly, and NOT MESS WITH IT for at least 48 hours. The bonds in your hair take time to set, so you need to leave it alone after drying so it can reset with the curl pattern intact, ie, no washing it, no heatstyling, use a silk pillowcase or hair cap when you sleep so it doesnt tangle up.
Just some tips for you or anyone else that dont want a bad perm.

I want to perm my hair so bad for volume and some wave, but perms ruin my hair. Guy has totally different hair from mine, it’s much thicker and stronger than my fine textured natural blond hair. I am very scared of perms, they ruined my hair and it took forever to grow out to healthy hair (which I then ruined by continual coloring at home).
