Star Citizen Runs Pretty Well Now! (Ryzen 7800X-3D and Radeon 7900-XTX)

  • I haven't tested my new PC on Star Citizen yet and holy crap, what a difference. The old Ryzen 3700X and RX 5700-XT PC would struggle to crack 90 FPS even out in empty space with nothing going on and the game downscaled to 2560x1080p resolution and in combat I would maybe see 40-45 FPS in most cases with about 60-65 FPS during quantum travel. I think the results from this video speak for themselves. But the most important thing to note is that: FINALLY, Star Citizen can run well as long as you have modern, powerful PC hardware. Just a few years ago, this game couldn't run smoothly for ANYONE, even those with the most powerful PCs available.
    Another Example...
    On the Ryzen 3700X and RX 5700-XT PC, I struggled to run around in Orison with anything more than 20 FPS even with volumetric clouds completely turned off and the game downscaled in resolution to 2560x1080p. Now, I am at full native 3440x1440p and in Orison I get about 65-75 FPS with the settings seen in this video, but if I turn clouds to very high, the performance will drop to about 35 FPS, so be careful with how high you set that setting.

    Runs well on top tier specs.....I'm shocked!

      It is actually surprising because in the past the game wouldn't run well even with top tier specs because CPUs were not good enough no matter how much money you spent. In other words, it has taken 10 years for computer hardware to brute force its way to good performance in this game.

      Well, if you get a modern CPU, you should be able to play the game fairly smoothly. This game is definitely more CPU bound than GPU at the moment.

    Can you test the fps in Lorville?

  • @AurynGaming

    Kinda useless as you just stay out in space and never visit anything of value. You start the video already in space and you dont go to an outpost or a city, hell even a space port.
    Even potato specs can get decent FPS in space tbh.

      That's why you read the description. I included FPS numbers for major areas. I just didn't record visiting those areas because the recording was about testing a real playing scenario which is out there accepting missions and doing the work. The only time you go to spaceports and cities is for repairs or it's a swap ships or something so those at BS numbers are less important because you're not doing anything that requires smooth gameplay.

    How about Ryzen 9 5900HX RTX 3070laptopGPU 32 GB ram and ssd 2tb? Those are my specs i dunno why the game runs awfully and i have good thermal as well

      Laptop Parts are low power and designed to run off the battery for long periods of time. Because of this, laptop parts are significantly slower than their desktop counterparts.
      The Ryzen 5900HX is probably only as powerful as a Desktop 5700X. The RTX 3070 is probably only as powerful as a desktop RTX 3060. You can't really fit a massive full-sized 200-400 watt GPU inside of a laptop chassis, nor could any battery handle such huge power draw. And so that is the sacrifice that laptops make.
      Laptops also run differently depending on whether or not the charger is plugged in. To save on battery life, laptops are programmed to automatically reduce power draw by slowing down the CPU and GPU when the laptop is unplugged.
      So, make sure you are plugged in while gaming to get maximum performance. Star Citizen will never run perfectly, cities still run poorly even for me - Lorville often dives BELOW 40 FPS, so make sure your expectations are reasonable.
      The good news is your 32GB of System RAM and SSD Storage are pretty much Ideal for the game. Standard 16GB RAM systems struggle because the unoptimized Alpha State game will easily completely saturate all 16GB of RAM and you end up with frequent crashing. Spinning Hard Disk Storage won't even run the game at all. Assets will load in so slowly when attempting to read from HDDs that in game your character will glitch and clip into the environment and die over and over.
      If your laptop has a 1440p screen, scale the game down. Specs like yours are unfortunately not quite good enough to play a game as unoptimized as Star Citizen at high resolution, so scale the game back to 1920x1080. I had to do the same thing with my old Ryzen 3700X + Radeon RX 5700-XT system - I played at 2560x1080 despite the 3440x1440p Monitor.
      However, make sure graphical settings are left quite high. Star Citizen is still a CPU-bound game, and so "High" and "Very High" Settings can take some load off the CPU and distribute it to the GPU.
      The one exception is Volumetric Clouds. Turn those completely OFF for a massive jump in performance on planets.
      Look up how to get more FPS in Star Citizen here on UA-cam. There are several more advanced tweaks that can help you even more.
      So in summary - Lower Resolution, but High Settings and turning OFF Volumetric Clouds is how you get the most performance out of Star Citizen, along with more advanced system tweaks that you can research.

      @wallacengineering8096 I think I'll just wait till the games becomes playable. I get 80ish fps on cyberpunk raytraced so it shouldn't be a rig problem

      @@ginomenicucci6888 It is honestly playable, especially in Space. Its mainly the cities that run poorly. And wait for this game to be Optimized? Lol, realistically ur talking another 10+ years, not even joking.
      If you wait for some next-gen hardware like RTX 5000 or 6000 and Ryzen 8000 or 9000, even laptop parts will soon be able to brute-force the game to pretty high performance. But you would need top-tier hardware to keep up with most Desktop Builds, like a Ryzen 8950HX + RTX 5080-Mobile or 5090-Mobile sort of system which I imagine is incredibly expensive.
      For now we just accept the low performance in cities and just play the game regardless. You can't expect perfect performance from an un-optomized Alpha game.

    • @wallacengineering8096
      @wallacengineering8096  10 місяців тому +1

      It should ya, the 5800X-3D is quite a strong CPU, just be aware there is currently an issue with 7900-XTX GPUs in Star Citizen. Ever since a recent patch, clock speeds can spike way too high while performing certain actions in game and case the game to crash to desktop, also crashing the Adrenaline Driver. The way you fix this issue is by manually setting a clock speed limit within the AMD Adrenaline Driver Software. Check out the information I found on Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/s/9QZRS7phpi

Im using rx6900xt par with Ryzen 5600 (Bottleneck my gpu). Can you tell me what I need to do in adrenaline software? Im not good at tuning pc hardware.

    • @wallacengineering8096
      @wallacengineering8096  9 місяців тому +3

      @@cptforce4541 You need to simply limit the maximum clock speed in Adrenaline software. Pull up the software, go to Performance Tab, then Tuning Sub-Tab, then enable Core control and Advanced Control. Set your maximum frequency around 2300 MHz. If that doesn't work, try something a bit lower until it does work.
