I love alcohol, but once i pick up i can't put it down. I stopped drinking for a year, once i picked it up i destroyed everything i had. almost 10 months sober, this time in recovery.

25 years ago I had quit drinking for ten months got in shape and felt great. I went out with new friends and had a light beer and got back in the habit again. I have been sober for two months now. I know that I can never drink again and don’t want to because I’m enjoying life again. You can stop again.

My wife and I are coming up on 6 months sober together. Having a partner makes it much easier as we have someone to make the journey with and hold each other accountable. Our relationship has become stronger, we’ve lost 80 lbs between the two of us, I’ve come off of thyroid and anxiety medication. Our family and son, most importantly, have seen the positive changes. We’re saving $100’s per month and have money for other things we want and want to do. We’re sleeping better, moods are better, feel better. There are no negatives of quitting; only positives.

There have been terrible days of anxiety when many thoughts come to mind and a bad conscience. Determined never to drink again - it has ruined so much. Thank you for this video - it is even more empowering.

Also the time you would spend drinking or doing bad, replace it with good. For me i would get home from work and drink. Now i get home and i work out. So i dont get board and tempted. Seek God go to church. Last if you can find a support group. Its worked for me. Now i see how absent i been in my kids and families lives even though im the main provider drinking and drugs robs us of so much. Your worth it and your family is worth it. So let get it! Starting around the 29:00 mark, JP talks about the Barney Gumble character from the Simpsons. I think Barney knew the cost of his alcoholism on his life. In the episode '22 Films About Springfield', where the main characters make short films about their lives, Barney makes a film talking about his alcoholism... that short piece reduced me to tears. I'm 59 and my drinking has had an immeasurable cost to my life even if I only count the lost opportunity to believe, to have faith and choose life, over running to alcohol and wasting yet another day..

Most times I drink I do it responsibly. But on rare occasion I get to a point of drunkness where I cant stop and get out of control to the point where I ruin relationships with other people around me.
Leaning towards stopping entirely, as it feels difficult to control myself from never having those rare fuck ups that are severese enough to justify stopping

The beginning of sobriety is going to be rough but it can be done. Sobriety looks different for different people. Sobriety doesn’t mean that you all the sudden become monetarily rich or other problems go away. I think that sobriety helps you deal with problems way better and of course you will feel better.

Michael Caine, Nick Lowe, Robert Altman, Keith Richards, & a number of geezers I've known personally, overdid it in rather epic fashion with hard liquor & sometimes other non-liquid stuff. They had way too much fun, stopped gulping the hard booze, spent a period of time not drinking at all, then returned to normal drinking, enjoying wine or beer, & carried on being quite balanced, successful people. They didn't need a "program" & they take a fundamentalist approach, unlike all the AA people I've known, who are rather ridiculous in their group-think, fear-based, secular religion fundamentalist dogma. Too many people confuse basic behavior modification with grand opera!

I've been sober for three days. It might seem ridiculous but i'm realising that alcohol is the reason why i've been doing cocaine. I haven't done any for the last 4 days, and i feel better than ever. I've always known that alcohol and drugs was the wall between me and total succes and hapiness. I've done more thing for my work and for myself in three days than for the last month. I'm going for the sober life. I'm going straight to hapiness and success. FROM HOPELESS TO GREATNESS.

IDK if I was lucky, but it’s been over 9 months and I don’t crave a drop of alcohol, the key difference was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal after go’ogling and reading Steffon Barkload’s Quit Drinking Forever, not even within the first 30 days after I quit and told no one, did not need AA meetings or meds either.

Alcohol took every single person that was important to me except for my mother. We’ve got to use the medications that are available and we’ve got to advertise those medication‘s that work. I’m telling all of you alcoholics out there…. Your doctor has medication’s that will stop you from drinking because it’ll make you ill if you drink. My wife used it and it works. The problem is these people believe that they can’t have a life without alcohol. The best thing you can do is get rid of all alcoholics in your life. They will destroy your life eventually, or they will just not pay attention to you and all they will do is drink.

This is REALLY insightful though... just more of the masculine side of this issue.

As a French I don't really get it. Does it mean that in the US you have to either drink every day or not at all?
Don't you also have rituals like drinking wine with friends at a dinner or having a beer with a friend over the weekend ?
This video looks very black or white to me but I also understand that alcoholism is an awful stuff. Just stick to social rituals and if you drink alone more than one drink and once in a while you have done wrong somewhere and obviously you became an addict.

As much as I like Anthony Hopkins, he is totally wrong about "keep fighting". "Fighting", "struggling", "battling", "gritting your teeth", and having a "death grip on the steering wheel", are ALL major roadblocks to sobriety!
The majority of videos on YT about "not drinking" are completely focused on the wrong perspective. The goal is "SOBRIETY", not "not drinking", or trying to "quit drinking", or cutting back on "drinking". That is all garbage that needs to be incinerated.
Alcohol is NOT the root problem, so stop focusing on it, and START focusing on "living differently"! Sobriety is not an intellectual proposition like a math equation. The solution is literally about how we move our feet. Some of the smartest people in the world have died drunk, because they believed they could "think" their way out of a fatal condition. It's total bullshyt! "Get busy LIVIN, or get busy DYIN". Those are your only options!

To constantly hear noises that aren't there???? A god awful ringing that NEVER subsides? Hmmm? And the only thing that makes it quiet is alcohol.......Do you think I don't know that it's destroyed(ing) my life???? Hmmm? Come live a day in my world and you just might beg for death. If you're absolutely serious about stopping drinking ... then do the following -
    NEVER purchase alcohol.
NEVER allow another person to purchase alcohol for you.
NEVER set foot inside a bar.
NEVER accept alcohol from anyone at all, even when it's unexpectedly offered to you.
NEVER allow anyone to bring alcohol into your living space on any occasion whatsoever.
NEVER put even a single drop of alcohol into your mouth.
There - and I dumbed it down a bit even for all of the dummies out there.

      @@aeropepe504 - Doing works. Talking doesn't work.
Correct choices must be made, or you fail. That goes for everything in life, and not just for alcohol. It's a pitiful thing to release your personal power to anything bad which has an influence on you, whether it's alcohol or anything else. Very simply ... if you do the things which I mentioned up above, then you'll succeed. Dumbing it down any more than this would just prove how seriously dumb you are.
