    I also have to recommend ForScan for use on a laptop, too. I use it with a usb ELM327 on my company’s newer vehicles because I’m way too cheap to pay SnapOn to upgrade my Solus Pro. I believe ForScan is still free. I’ve even had some success programming as-built data after replacement of electronic modules - not perfect, but allowed me to start it and get to Ford for a proper reflash. I’m not 1/2 the mechanic Steve is, but I thought it is worthwhile information to share.

      That would be pretty sweet if stephen could could demo forscan. It helped me diagnose my airbag light. Basically it told me there was a short in the wiring.

      Have you been able to do a buzz test

    • @jmiddlefinger
      @jmiddlefinger 3 місяці тому

      @@justicebruno5249 I seem to recall that ForScan had that capability, but it’s been a long time now and I’m a little fuzzy. I was able to do some two-way programming to remediate an issue I was having with a replacement part, but I never had to do a buzz test on any of the work trucks because the majority of the fleet were gassers (landscaping industry) and our 24v Cummins was just too reliable. My truck was a 2001 7.3, so I always used the Solus Pro. Still have the Solus, but it’s only updated through 2014

    I'm surprised you weren't monitoring the IPR Duty Cycle while cranking. Just as important as ICP and far more common than injector o-rings or a pump. Maybe it will be in the next video?

    We have Chevy Suburban that has bad battery drain problem , we solved it by installing a trickle charger under the hood.
    I watch a video from BILLSTMAXX channel were he had a battery on the bench ,and it had a dirty top between the posts , and he moved the multi meter probe from the negative to the positive , the voltage would start to increase on the meter from about 3 volts at the base of the negative terminal to about 11 volts when he was close the base of positive terminal .

    OH! I don't know about the 7.3 liter engines, but on the 6.0 liters you must have at least 540? lbs. of oil pressure from the HPOP to start the engine. I don't think that engine has those plastic STC fittings, so, a bad HPOP? Great video!

      Tahoe0512 • I just turned over 200,000 miles on my 2000 7.3 and injectors, tranny, glo plugs everything still running fine and I've pulled two campers and two pontoon boats quite frequently. Except in the last 20 years I've had to replace the camshaft positioning sensor 3 times. I couldn't be any happier with my 7.3. My last offer for it was 5 years ago and he offered $20k and I had to say, "no thank you".

    My 03 7.3 has been slow to start lately, sounds like the same thing you're having. Mine wil fire off after cranking it a few times for about 20 seconds each time, fires off, no smoke and seems to run normally, just won't fire off in a few seconds like it used too. Just started happening this winter and i have th kit for the o-ring replacement, just haven't gotten them in yet. It would be nice to hear what you came up with on this one.

      I have what is called a "late 99" 314k miles. I've replaced, water pump, ICP sensor, both front wheel bearings, steering box and starter. All was done around 290k miles. The early 99's have a smaller turbo compressor housing and the 02 and newer 7.3 has weaker internals. Late 99's were built in March 99. I'll drive this truck until nothing is worth fixing. I hate the new body styles and word on the street is the 6.4 is junk.

    Hey Steve! I was a sub 9f Mark Carriker's channel and came to your channel because if him.
    I was wondering if this device and app works on regular "old lady car" i have a 2017 Toyota Camry. I would love to have this diagnostic tool.
    (In high school, I was the only girl to sign up for auto mechanic shop class. The school made a girl's auto shop class in 1973 so I know how to adjust and clean carburetors...lol. For a girl, I'm a little mechanically inclined and mechanics have a harder time ripping me off. Now days sensors give me fits and I know nothing about fuel injection.
    A thingamabob like that whatchamacallit would be a great gizmo for someone like me so what do you suggest for my new fangled car? 😝
