Cool look at some hacker themed movies. Snowden is definitely #1 and should be top dog/1st. The courage it took for Snowden to do what he did to expose the US government's spy program...goodness! I would have placed Hacker/Darkweb in the top 5 as it's based on a true story + its storyline is good. Swordfish? Really 😂😂 sure it's a hacker film but not a good one. OMG It even got a razzie award which speaks for itself. You guys completely left out Wargames which is the quintessential classic hacker film and pretty much got the ball rolling as far as hacker themed movies go. You also left out Enemy of the State, another solid film. One could easily make an argument for any of the first four Jason Bourne movies, especially the 1st two👁

Snowden wasn't a hacker. He was a traitor (or hero, depending upon your viewpoint). But, definitely NOT a hacker. He had access. He just violated the terms of his employment contract by copying/disseminating info. He didn't "hack" anything.
Snowden did indeed have access which clearly gave him a foot in the door, but he also gained additional access through bypassing a number of security layers by hacking. He also used social engineering which is a common element of successful hacking. The movie was a Hollywood portrayal and skipped over a great deal of what actually happened and the government deliberately wont reveal the details. Snowden was in contact with others in the hacking community long before he was discovered/revealed himself, and it was not at all just a case of, Hey look what I found on my bosses computer that I have access to. That was more like what occurreed with Chelsie Manning who simply reported on what she found.
All of these movies portray cartoonish ideas of what hacking looks like but have little in common with reality. The TV show Mr Robot came close thanks to the creative input from the well known hactivist, Gregg Housh. A lot of hacking is not pounding away at a keyboard while mysterious symbols float around the screen. Social Engineering plays a major role.
