Here is the thing. I have just come back from Japan. He's right about fresh matcha. I went to Kyoto and the matcha there are as fresh as it can be from some stores. And yes, it tasted amazing. But, even if you buy a few little jar of it back to and want to drink it for the following months or two, it will still be fine. You likely won't notice or won't be bothered by the different between freshly made vs matcha in those little jars. So, enjoy matcha, if you have the chance to go to kyoto, definitely go try the fresh ones. But the ones you have in your household is the best one for you because you get to enjoy it.

You mentioned the fast degradation of matcha. But does that also apply to matcha that has not been opened yet? Or does that also degrade, but more slowly? So drink opened match
I'm no expert, but he mentioned oxidation as the reason why macha degrades, so I believe that starts to increase when you open the pack and let oxigen in. But still probably it's not the best to buy macha that has been sitting on a shelf for months. I hope this helps.

Hi. Thank you for this video! I was wondering. Does the milk (honey, sirup, sugar) kill all the good stuff in the matcha tea or do you get the same benefits as drinking it only with water?
Great job! thanks for the clarification. I will check the website out and compare prices. Was looking at matcha Kari on Amazon. Just getting into matcha making. Cheers
Am looking for a healthy tea to drink. Came across benefits of Matcha. Question don’t care to add to oat milk, do you then just drink it. Much smaller quantity than a cup of tea right?
Yeah, classic is still best. Just prepare it the original way. Warm a bowl and bamboo whisk, then add the match (4 grams), add a splash of water to make a paste by whisking, then add 60 ml, then whisk till frothy. It’s like an espresso or a shot
Ive been having a problem. Its like no matcha I have bought will lose their taste when mixed with milk. Its like I can olny taste the milk. Do I need to add more matcha? Or is there a better kind of matcha better for Lattes? Thanks in advance
If anyone begin to want real Matcha, there will not enough for everyone, right ? After all, it's just Tea leaves, what about cultivate your own tea in the garden, and simply pick up some fresh leaves everyday in spring ? Then make your own powder for the rest of the year ? So you can make a local product. What do you think about it ?
Matcha actually originated from ancient China with Shaolin monks to get high before meditating to transcendence. A lot of the generals and warlords used it before warfare/battle. China fell off, Japan was heavily influenced by it. And now we know it to be Japanese.
Yes, close! But -- Matcha did not originate in China. You're thinking about Mo Cha, the historic precursor popular during the Song dynasty in China. Mo Cha made it's way to Japan about 800-1000 years ago, where it sparked the development of Matcha: and entirely different and unique product that is not Chinese in origin. The closet analogy would be to say that Baseball originated in England. It did not. Though it was inspired by the precursor to baseball, Cricket! Thanks for the comment, this is a typically misunderstood topic that deserves it's own full video.
I think it’s more along the lines of not pushing the whisk hard against the bottom of the bowl, as that damages the bristles. You kind of need to lightly brush against the bottom of the bowl and you can kind of hear that noise in the video.
"Matcha must be from Japan." False. Matcha originated in China. It is produced across Asia and is absolutely not exclusive to Japan. You can obtain Matcha from various countries across Asia, it is simply most abundant in Japan. Just because certain countries like Brazil or Colombia produce most of the coffee consumed in the west, does not mean other countries cannot produce coffee (Vietnam and India for example also produce coffee.) While a majority do consider Japan to be superior to other countries at cultivating Matcha, that doesn't mean other places don't produce it, in fact the video maker is an American Matcha company.
This is a great comment, mostly correct! In fact, we've done videos in collaboration with Shunan Teng of Tea drunk on the topic. What you're missing a bit is that Matcha itself is not from China -- Mo Cha is. Mo Cha came to Japan about 1,000 years ago, where modern (and VERY distinct) Matcha was developed over the 1,000 years tea was in Japan. So, it's not correct to say Matcha is from China, any more than it's right to say American Baseball is from England. It's not! Roots (critcket), inspiration, and history - but the product (Baseball/ Matcha) is distinctly American/Japanese in origin. As a second note, there are lots of imitation products (ground green tea) on the market from all over the world, as you mentioned! But Matcha 抹茶 is from Japan alone - the same was Pu Er must be from Yunnan, even if you make a Pu Er style tea in India, or Japan. :) Great comment though, lots of excellent conversation topics!
if you are referring to 末茶and 抹茶, then you probably know that "kanji" is how Japanese pronounce the word "Chinese", just like Japanese doesn't call the word english "english", they call it "eigo". Then you may know how 汉字 actually works, most importantly what is the difference between 末 and 抹, why it was the 末 in the first place ( hint- tip of the leaf) and why add the "hand" on 抹 later. If you google search matcha in nihongo instead of english, you will learn that most Japanese articles state the originality very clearly themselves. Just like Japanese Curry is also excellent, but I wouldn't say curry is from Japan. Excellency or domination doesn't equal to originality.
