Really appreciate your ethical approach to duck hunting. I started my 75th year hunting ducks yesterday. I'm 80 now so am not able to go more than 4 times a week now and all we have here are woodies and an occasional mallard but I still enjoy seeing and hearing them as much as I ever have. It's refreshing to know that there is at least one guy who does it right and respects the resource. Keep it up!
Wow! Heck of a hunt, Matt. Fantastic shooting too. Thanks for staying true to your roots and not doing huge group hunts like most UA-camrs. I think I speak for many that we love the emphasis you put on nature. Never change that mindset.
I always watch your videos. The way you hunt is the way duck hunting should be. I was born and raised in arkansas. I have hunted them for more than sixty years. Ive seen some unbelievable hunts, and a damn lot of them. Still do today but the quality is going away. Many reasons. The weather, the mass number of hunters that are willing, have the time, the equipment, the time off and the money to watch the internet, get on on x and cover the duck area up. Not to mention, mud motors. I cant blame anyone, if i had had them when i was young, i would have used them also!! I have had many awesome hunts, by myself over the years. Treasure them, and i think you do. You really put out some good content. Thx
I have hunted Arkansas about the same amount of time. Hunting has definitely gotten worse. But like you I have been on many great hunts. Several with just my Lab and me.
All what you said at the end of your video: amazing show of marksmanship (6 shots fired, no crippling, hourray for the cylinder choke, no damage on short distance above this tiny pool, mix bag, perfect light, Great images, efficient spread again, thanks for the update about it, thanks again for sharing the details of your decoying, perfect combination, all the work involved, keeping you in shape!) Many more to come, best season to you on your solo hunt, Saint Hubert day again, celebration day pretty soon?!?? Beaujolais Nouveau before Thanksgiving. God bless you too.
I do, wholeheartedly agree with your video title. Personally, one of the most enjoyable waterfowl hunting I’ve ever viewed. Thanks for sharing. 🤗. I will watch it again, again & again 🤗
Nice hunt Matt! I'm done for the year even tho the duck season goes till Dec 1 and goose till Jan 9. But Bring on deer season 5 days to go! Im fired up!!!
That sound of the drake Mallard is music to my ears, its just to sad down here in Louisiana where I used to hunt you can not buy a Mallard duck there used to be thousands of birds in the Atchafalaya swamp where we hunted dang its hard to find a Wood duck any more, just don't know what happen down here,I guess the patterns changed and it just never got back right again I don't even buy a duck stamp any more not worth the time or the money,I truely miss the good ole days. Thanks for the video Matt it brings back memories of what it used to be like where we hunted at.
Hey Matt, how are you liking those TSS shells? I was thinking about getting some for my 20 gauge this year. I know they are pricey but I’m fine with buying some if they perform well. Thanks and great hunt again!
Man just got stationed in Cheyenne. First weekend out and 3 of us got 30 in 30 days. Been watching your videos for years. Would love to share a blind with you one day this season
Hi, curious what make the motion decoy at 2:04 is? Great content your putting up, I usually hunt alone as well with similar size spreads. Best of luck to you from Canada.
Yes!!! They have a great close range pattern and in my opinion you really can’t beat them for close range bird hunting. When you get out to range though they are not as good. However they are also extremely light and a dream to shoot, they point and come up great! I have a 20 gauge SBE 3, I’ve heard the 28 gauge version is great too, I’m a sub-gauge guy for life.
Really depends on your hunting style. For close up, decoying setups, it works great. For pass shooting or longer shot scenarios, not so much. I'd also highly recommend using either bismuth or tungsten with it.
@@HighPrairieSportsmen I do a lot of public in a wide open areas with high pressure birds, so I’m guessing I should stick with the 12 and BOSS! Thanks man
@@HighPrairieSportsmenThe owner of Faulk Calls in Lake Charles, La. told me they built in that squeak to mimic the sound of a mallard hen with a crop full of rice.
I am starting to see more and more Phragmites in your videos as you are hunting. Speaking with experience they absolutely destroyed the Great Salt Lake Marsh Complex in Utah. If I where you and if have the ability I would be getting on treating that to keep it out of your marsh. And if it is public land I would be starting to rally the troops to get public officials ahead of the game.
Yeah, phragmites is becoming more and more of an issue unfortunately. It's an absolute pain to try and control. Doesn't help that some people use it for blind material either.

I love your message to clean up shells and trash.
Absolutely hate seeing trash out in nature
My favorite kind of duck hunting, small water, small spread, small groups, big success.
Mine too!

Thanks! I can't do big groups. Six is my max and less is preferable.
Listening to that hen mallard in the spread is super incredible and such a treat
Was hoping she'd call some in for me. Was cool just to hear her cadences.
Once those ducks hear that tap tap on the gun, they know its lights out 😂

I noticed you switched from 9 shot to 8 awhile back, were the 9 shot shells not heavy enough for the bigger ducks?
No, I liked it for big ducks close. Just ran out.
Great hunt. Have you gotten a banded duck yet this year? I enjoy your videos.
