I was looking in the #SingleSeedChallenge2021 hashtag and seen a video taken by one of your neighbors that dropped by. It was cool to see your garden from a different perspective.
I grew those last year ....the plant was huge and needed support and the peppers were so hot no one could eat them...it did produce thousands of peppers very good production. I gave one to my friends kid who said "nothing is to hot for me" after he ate it he couldn't close his mouth for 30 min and slobbered all over himself hahaha
I have 32 tomato varieties and 7 full-size watermelon varieties so ALL those might be single seed challenges. This is the problem with having an innate need to grow everything you have, and not having nearly the room to do so. 🥲
what a beautiful thought, a tiny little seed turns into this huge thing. Where did that mass of stalk(s), foliage, and fruit come from? All of that packed into a tiny little seed - Glory be to God. Keep up the great work, I've benefited plenty from this channel - thanks!
I experimented with bagged bird seed for sunflower seed. They are sprouting. I have no idea what variety or how big they will get. I guess it sort of a seed challenge .
I live in the NC piedmont and two years ago in late spring I experimented and sprouted some old black oil sunflower seeds I found in the garage. I planted a hundred or so around the perimeter of the garden and they were just beautiful.... approximately 6 inch diameter sunflowers on 6 foot stalks. The bumble bees and honey bees adored them. Apparently sunflower pollen provide medicinal benefits for native bees. I had better results sprouting them inside and then planting once the first two initial leaves appeared. Birds have an uncanny ability to find sunflower seeds in the soil if they haven't sprouted.
I think we all have an unorganized mess when it comes to our seed collections lol...especially around this time! beautiful little pepper indeed! Amazing how God has designed the "seed". All it takes is ONE! :)
Great choice Scott. I grew them last year. They are tiny little firecrackers. Hugely popular at work. Everyone wanted to try one. They are like little fire yellow skittles. Interesting because they heat is immediate on them. Enjoy.
Hey Scott. Well I'm going to have quite a few varieties of peppers this year and i think I'm gonna stay with that theme. I'm not growing the Chinese five color in my garden so I'll go with that one for the single seed challenge.
Great idea Scott, got to know about you and your challenge from Yaje. Good you’re planting already, I can’t now as am in a different zone, I am in North Carolina, Raleigh and it’s still quite cold
I think I will join your challenge this year and share my progress. I’ve got some Irish Potatoes left over from last year that have sprouted up nicely. I’ll be putting them in the ground March 1st here in South West TN zone 7b. I’m looking forward to it already!
Looks good there Scott. What I did with that photo organizer for seeds was store the cells upside down. The back has a nice little flat area dead center where I use a label maker to group my seeds (brassicas, flowers, lettuce(s)) so I don't have to hunt through every cell for a certain pack. Might help, chew on it.
My tomatoes and pepper seeds are starting to emerge and I’m like “Yesss!!! Spring is COMING!!”. Starting your own seeds is just so exciting. I can’t wait for mild temps, crisp green grass, birds chirping, and flowers blooming. 😍😊
I am thinking of trying Barry's Crazy Cherry Tomato only because it's a fresh seed packet I ordered a few weeks ago, and if I'm successful growing it, I think one seed/plant should be enough for me and friends I can share with. Thanks for thinking up this challenge! It sounds like so much fun, and it'll be fun to follow other people's seed journeys. :)
I really enjoy your channel and a new sub. I'm in Michigan and did some single seed starts to check germination. I should be in good shape in few weeks when my starts actually get started. I wish everyone the best for 2021growing season!
Scott, I feel the same way as you do about seeds that come up! It’s such a good feeling to see it materialize!! I think I will go through my seeds tomorrow and do the challenge. It will be fun! Thanks!! ❣️🌼♥️💙🌺💜🌸❣️
I plan to join in this year, but what I have in mind needs to wait a few weeks before planting. Kind of excited since I’ve never grown this one before. Can’t wait!
I seen this going around last year. I didn't get in on it BUT I sure will this year. I will do a video later this week once I figure out What ONE sees I want to try growing.
Oh how fun! I just found your channel via a referral in a group. I want to join in the fun. I am going to do Brads Atomic Grape tomato. It is a little early for me just yet but I'll be planting soon. With us being off grid our seed starting process is a bit different. Our greenhouse is under construction currently. We do have a UA-cam we JUST started and social media (FB/IG/TT) i will use the hashtag. Looking forward to going through your videos!
I started my journey with the single seed challenge with a spicy Carolina reaper seed my neighbor gave me. I didn’t really want more than one plant cause that might be too much spice. So it’s perfect for this challenge.
I am investigating several varieties of tomatoes to select my single seed challenge plant. I will join you around March 21 as the best starting date up here in Zone 5.
I also bought a bunch of seeds from Baker Creek, tomatoes, peppers and a freebie I’ve never tried but liked as a child. Kohlrabi! So we have many choices! LOL!!!
Could you do a visit to the Magic Worm Ranch in Houston? I’m in Dallas and very curious as I’ve heard amazing things about their earth worm castings compared to one that’s local up here? Maybe you could do a test? Magic Worm Ranch castings, Vs Texas Worm Ranch castings vs. your compost?
Scott, your plastic containers that you are keeping seed packets in and organized, seem to be a possible solution for me, what are they, and where did you get them?
I do too. I’m using those little yellow sticky trap I ordered from Amazon. There’s one pot I used hot water to pre-moistened as Scott mentioned seem to be fine so far.
I just started with a video specifically for YT. I'd love it it if you'd take a look. I'm going to do the challenge with either a chocolate bell or "rainbow tomato" b/c I won't know what I'm gonna get until it's up. Fun!!
The name and the place you got the other peppers I think sometimes called chillipitines. The ones you said the birds delivered? chili tepin at 2:07. Thanks
Pepper seeds really need heat to germinate my experience. Try a germination test by putting a few seeds in a damp paper towel and put that in a plastic ziplock bag then put the bag somewhere warm. Check after a few days(3-7 days) to see if they've sprouted. If there's no sprouts the seeds may be bad.
I actually don't understand why people put 2-3 seeds in one hole 🤦🏻♂️ if say 2 of the 3 come up they kill plants to only have one. Why not just put one in each hole plant however many you want and I guarantee some how some way you'll have success.

Very nice seedling I hope they do well

I planted some Aji’s and they had poor germination. I have two left. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 they make it!
My single seed is going to be a Mammoth sunflower.

I won’t be able to plant mine for a few weeks, but that gives me time to decide which one to do. I’m looking forward to it.

You have to let us know when they bloom!
@@dianeuplinger5097 I will. If the deer don’t eat them. I may over plant. I do have a big bag so why not lol

I'm waiting for my pepper seeds to come - going to try to make paprika!
Hey Scott...pleasure to meet you. Arkansas Woodcutter sent me your way for this fantastic challenge. I'll be entering a seed soon! ♥ the whole idea!

The aji charapita will get big too if you let it. Mine was 3ft tall and had hundreds of peppers last year.
good to know! thanks!
Are you selling your seeds?
@@kramerb3758 no, baker creek had them

I know what I’m going to plant but I forgot where I put it! I’ll look again tomorrow. I’m excited about this.
I cant wait to join the challenge. But in 5b it would be a bad idea to start now. I plan on starting seed in mid to late March.
Just heard about your challenge from Dan’s Permaculture food forests channel. Will join and make a video.

My single seed challenge pepper has sprouted and well please . Must make update for all to see Cheers ray
Congrats on getting your seed started! I'm leaning towards a pepper as well, and I'm looking forward to see what everyone does.

I am in zone 8b so will have to wait until mid-February. Then again I could winter sow certain kinds of seeds. I have not decided yet.
I’m looking forward to starting my seed soon for the single seed challenge! Good luck!
I plan to join in this year, but what I have in mind needs to wait a few weeks before planting. Kind of excited since I’ve never grown this one before. Can’t wait!
I use bubble wrap when I don't have a dome. The water stays in the bubbles and there is air flow too. 😀
Very cool! How seeds turn into a giant plant really is a miracle when you think about it. God bless and happy Growing 😊🙏
I seen this going around last year. I didn't get in on it BUT I sure will this year. I will do a video later this week once I figure out What ONE sees I want to try growing.
sounds like a great challenge I will be doing this too. I will make a video when it gets a little warmer here. 💕NonnaGrace
I’m glad it’s a pepper! I have never grown anything but a green bell but this year, I am trying three different peppers so I’m tickled to follow you 😊
I’m keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏾 that my seed sprouts

I have failed every year on cucumbers... will be entering cucumber...... thanks for organising
Have the cucumbers failed to germinate or is there an issue after they start growing?
My tomato’s are growing, lack one for 100 percent. Starting peppers now
Also, could you tell us what kind of tomatoes you have going and a quick review of each?
My seeds should have been here already, still waiting! If they aren’t here tomorrow, I have a new pepper I’ll try Pizza my Heart! We’ll see!
I also bought a bunch of seeds from Baker Creek, tomatoes, peppers and a freebie I’ve never tried but liked as a child. Kohlrabi! So we have many choices! LOL!!!
My single seed is going to be a Ho Chi Minh pepper from Hudson Valley Seed Co. Just ordered the seeds today.
My toddler's Tiny Tim tomato seed emerged yesterday and he is SO EXCITED.

Tomato’s and peppers started 1/1/21 💖
Scott, your plastic containers that you are keeping seed packets in and organized, seem to be a possible solution for me, what are they, and where did you get them?
Its a photo storage and organizer, found it on Amazon. I filled it up pretty quickly.
@@ScottHead Thanks!
Scott, do you have gnat issues when starting seed without the humidity dome? I keep getting those buggers.
Not much, especially if you pre-moisten with boiling water.

Is the challenge only for youtube? What about Instagram and Facebook?
Do it wherever. Instagram seems best suited if you aren’t on UA-cam
