  • How to test the alternator on a Jeep Wrangler. Its very easy, it just takes a few simple tests to see if it is putting out the power it should.

    A lot of jeeps have voltage regulator in the ECU. This happens often and new ecu is expensive snd used ones arent cheep and harder to find since they have already been bought. Quick start sells a external regulator kit for this. For about 90 dollars shipped. You can buy a external regulator for a dodge and a field replacement module and wire it yourself for around 50.

      That is very true. I have got the external regulator and plug to demonstrate this, just haven't done it yet. The Quick start comes with a resister to put inline to turn off the check engine light due to the ECU no longer seeing the alternator.

    Thank you for the information you provide.
    I have yj93 I would like to inquire about the generator that gives out high voltages, which leads to damage to the fuse
    I hope you can explain this problem by video .
    Thanks Your friend from Saudi Arabia

    It’s not a 1/2” bolt. IIRC it’s a 5/16” stud and takes a 1/2” socket or wrench.

      Man, Id like to see some mud and rocks. I work all the time it seems. The new job I'm at now, I'm the low man on the pole so I get the weekend shift. Also, I gotta swap front diffs between Rust Bucket and Beth. My gears dont match in Beth because I had to put the rear diff outta Rust Bucket in it because the factory Dana 35 chunked a carrier bearing. Good seeing ya again bud!! Have a great day!!

    You should make a video on a stuck tensioner on the Jeep mine is stuck beyond belief it took me 2 days to some how to figure it out to put the belt on I want to replace my alternator with a beefier one but I don’t want to deal with that tensioner again

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  5 років тому +1

      Ive got 2 extra engines. I've really been meaning to see how to easily convert to a TJ style tensioner where its just spring loaded using one of the extra engines. On that tensioner for the YJ. There are 2 bolts to loosen your belt. One is the long one that you have to reach from the side. The other is just behind the power steering pulley. Look up my video about changing the fan belt on a YJ. I show the tensioner in it. Hope that helps! Have a great day!!

    Where are the fuse(s) located that control the alternator? My alternator quit charging after I just installed a new stereo, so I'm pretty sure that I've pinched a wire (or arced something that I shouldn't have touched) during that installation.I just bought this '93 YJ and there's no cover on the fuse block next to the battery. I am having difficulty finding a legend for the fuse locations.

    Hey I love the vids! I have a 1988 yj that i want to do a AC delete on. Do you have a video that shows how to do that? If not do you have any advice on where I could find out how to do so?

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  5 років тому +1

      Look up the fan belt configuration for a YJ like yours without AC. Go buy your belt. Remove the AC compressor and install your new belt. Then just remove all the factory AC stuff. None of my rigs have ever had AC so I dont have a video on it sorry. Have a great day!!

    Awesome as always. Still waiting for a YJ timing chain replacement video. Could you also do a video on why a V-Belt 2.5L YJ is so rare? By the best I could find, there is literally no aftermarket V-Belt harmonic balancer made for the 2.5L and nobody really knows why. Is there a GM cross reference part number?

    • @G6ixxK
      @G6ixxK 3 роки тому

      I found a V-belt harmonic balancer that fits the YJ, you can get the one that fits on the CJ7/CJ8

    • @fishhuntadventure
      @fishhuntadventure 8 місяців тому

      The YJ 2.5 tbi only had vbelts 1987-1990, and ‘some’ of the post-chryco had a serpentine belt. Some say certain 89’s had serpentine but I’ve only seen one 1990 2.5 using a serpentine belt.
      For 1991 the 2.5 had mpfi/OBD1 and serpentine belt, and the six cylinder models changed to 4.0mpfi with serpentine belt.
      So only the first coupla years transitioning from AMC to Chryco had vbelts

    Great stuff as usual. I have a question. I have a 93 YJ, Voltage gauge is showing 9v. After testing it while running (12v), I took the alternator down and had it tested professionally, They told me it was running at 14.5v. I re installed it and it's doing the same thing. Should I just replace it and see what happens? Any other idea of what could be causing this? Also has a brand new Battery.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  3 роки тому +1

      Could be a bad ground to the gauge cluster. Wiring going to the gauge could be faulty causing a voltage drop. Possibility but very slim being the voltage regulator inside the ECM. "Most of the time" the testing at the auto parts store is fairly accurate. I always watch them test the alternator so I can see that they are testing it correctly. I'm thinking you may have a wiring issue for the gauge. Using a multimeter, black lead on ground, red lead on the positive post of the battery. You should be showing over 14 volts to the meter. If not, put the red lead on charging post on the back of the alternator, you should have over 14 volts there.

      @@Poweraddicts Thank you for the reply. I found the problem as being a blown Amp fuse. Problem solved! I went backwards on this fix.

      They have regulator in the computer. They go bad but the computer is still working. It's expensive to put in a new computer and the used ones are hard to find so many people have this problem. But they have a kit you can buy at quick start for about 90 dollars. But you can buy a external regulator for a Dodge and a field replacement module. And wire it yourself for about 50 dollars.
