Of all their albums this is the one that thrills me the most. The muddy production necessitates listening to it with a good pair of headphones or speakers to be able to hear all the nuances though.
@James Bond Sorry for the two year late reply bro 😂. UA-cam never sent me a notification on this one. This might make you feel better but back in 2006 I sold my mint original 1995 CD pressing of Suffocation - Pierced from Within, for $10 during my deathmetal burnout phase. Now that album is rare and expensive as hell. The cheapest I've seen it lately is $50. Anyways if you haven't already done so, this Nile album can still be bought on Ebay and Discogs for about $10 to $12 with shipping \m/
Remarkable, no less since this wouldn't be an album I would recommend for a first listen. I say this basically listening to this for the first time and having liked all other albums I tried (one many years ago) more...
Agreed, this album gets better every time my subwoofer is forced to play it. I'll bet it feels something like one of the battered souls after seeing these guys play live!
Still on of the top 10 death metal albums ever recorded...even almost 20 years on. Derek Roddy completely in control of his kit...Dalas, the Chief and Sir Sanders all just fucking smashing it. Wonderful..HAIL NILE!!
I do agree there's a gap in terms of musical maturity even though Catacombs has its own unique perks in my opinion. Not so much concerning Death which kept evolving pretty steadily actually. I would rather compare it to Sepultura's Morbid Visions versus their next record Schizophrenia which really put them on the scene.
They kind of returned to the straight-forward brutality of the first album and to some extent this with what should not be unearthed, once i finally gave it a go i was surprised. I just hope they can deliver without Dallas, but they did before so why not now... The only bad album really is at the gate of sethu, Ithyphallic was a bit of a letdown but still has its moments

This album simply cannot be played loud enough, and has one of the most blisteringly aggressive feelings of impending doom. It always impressed me how cinematic-(for lack of better wordage) the guys in Nile worked to sound. SO much Ambience.
This was my favorite version of Nile: dirty, murky, ritualistic-sounding, ghoulish, supernatural, horrific, atmosphere-laden, etc. I do still enjoy the newer, more streamlined sound that they have now, but I'd like to see them return to this more avant-garde, horror-based style. Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka had it as well, but the composition was kind of lacking there at times, and In Their Darkened Shrines is similar to this one as well, though Black Seeds will probably always be my favorite. It was my introduction to the band, and one of the first really extreme death metal albums I ever got into. My only criticisms of it would be that the sound could be a touch cleaner here and there, and there are a couple of playing moments which are sort of sloppy, but really, this album is a fucking masterpiece, and shows the kind of true potential that death metal has.
Dominic Ross I really like Annihilation Of The Wicked and Ithyphallic. Not too much after that, though I think At The Gate Of Sethu has some interesting stuff on it. In my opinion Karl really just found a formula and stuck to it, which is unfortunate.
@@crawlingamongthestars3736 I think Sethu was the last album where Nile challenged themselves musically. After Annihilation Of The Wicked, I think Those Whom the Gods detest was their last really great album. In all honesty though, comparing Nile albums is like comparing 999 billion dollars with 1 trillion dollars.
I didn't care to much for Whom The Gods Detest, though it has its moments. That's pretty funny, 999 billion dollars with one trillion dollars, though I still think the first four Nile albums are creative and original.
@@crawlingamongthestars3736 I think after George Kollias found his feet in the band (no pun intended) the band creatively went downhill where it became a band based around athletic performance instead of that raw grit and caveman menace. His influence rubbed off on Karl and Dallas. This didn't actually set in until probably right after Ithyphallic though, where both AOTW and Ithyphallic had some great moments.

Absolutely. It's been a minute
This is probably the most improvement a band has ever undergone from their first album to their second. The competitor here would be Death.
Bolt Thrower went from In Battle There is Now Law which a good record to Realm of Chaos which is a death metal masterpiece!

Black Seeds Of Vengeance
The scourge of Amalek is upon you, The seed of Amu hath oppressed you
They hath urinated upon you and made you eat feces
They know not Ra
They are the enemies of Asar, they hath defiled your tombs
Violated your women and made victims of your little ones
They hath befouled the writings of Thoth
They hath burned sacred papyri, they hath cracked open your heads
Smashed your teeth and gouged out your eyes
They hacked off your limbs and thrown your mutilated bodies
Towards the heavens mocking Ra
Let not their seeds multiply among you
Honour not their wretched little Gods
Crawl not on your bellies before them, war shall you make upon them
Plague and pestilence shall you call down upon them
You must destroy their seed utterly, you shall gash them with flints
You shall gore them with sticks, hack off their testicles
And cut their phalluses to pieces, suffer none of them to live
Dismemberment and slaughter shall you perform on them
The mighty Sekhmet will devour them
The chain of Sut is around their neck, Horus hammereth them
Nepthys hacketh them to bits, the eye of Ra eateth into their faces
Their carcasses will be consumed in the desert
The seed of Amu with perish utterly
Their filth shall never breed among you again
We shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the sky.
