  • We were beyond excited to discover such beautiful brass on our sailboat. Since we live on our sailboat full-time in Hawaii, looking at the black port holes was getting really old. It's taken awhile, but the brass is finally coming through. This was beyond rewarding and as a fellow subscriber once commented "restoring an old boat is half the fun!"

Have you ever thought you would want to sell everything, live tiny/mobile, and sail the world on a sailboat as a liveaboard? We did too! We want to share with you the day to day life and reality of living aboard a sailboat. It's all about lifestyle balance while sailing. We want to show the highs and lows, as we restore our boat in preparation to sail an ocean crossing and explore this beautiful world. We live on our 1977 Custom Ingrid Atkins 38' Sailboat full-time in Hawaii. We are working to restore our sailboat, Windrose, and bring her back to her early sailing days!

Holy Cow!!! The difference is amazing. Seriously job well done. I would imagine with the brass being brighter that is makes the living quarters seem to have more light and maybe even the illusion of more space?? Super cool!

You are showing your youth. Everybody had a bottle of Flitz when I was growing up. Also, if you need to polish something properly, Brasso or Silvo (for silver) will give you a mirror finish if you use some elbow grease. On those port lights specifically, you will likely have to replace the seals. Might as well start looking.

That’s so funny. We just stumbled on that infomercial. It sure does work though!

Ok! Once you get your brass clean and bright take Hairspray and spray it on your brass and it well not turn green or show finger prints. It will keep it nice and bright.
Thank You for the video. So until next time, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!
P.s. You can also put on a clear varnish.

Yes! I have a few more portholes to do and then I need to get a clear varnish since some spots on the first porthole we did have tiny green spots. Varnish it is!

What about the sailing? Your surroundings, where are you, where are you sailing in Hawaii. Not scrambled eggs and brass cleaner. You focus on minutia in the loveliest place on earth.

We are undergoing a major engine conversion right now, so we are using our time as we wait to fully restore this boat, so when we start sailing we are maintaining its beauty along the way.
