Visited there early last year while on my way to Bakersfield to pick up a Grob 109 pieces/parts. Awesome folks and wish I'd allowed more time so I could do some flying.
Oh boy, the germans have found us! Probably nothing compared to the soaring programs in europe so I hope Stephan here gives us a good grade after his inspection of truckee and Crystal. Damn, should have had Dale there!
It’s a lot different from when I got my glider license there with Fred Robinson in 1981. I don’t even think we had an inside place to sit. There was a brand new Labelle parked next to me office that had zero time in America. It was for sale for 10,000 bucks. Since I’m 6 foot four I’m glad I didn’t buy it even though I did ask about it There was a young German student who had rented a standard Cirrus, I think, and was flying it on one way trips out of crystal. He would go as far north as he could and land usually at an airport but sometimes out in the field. He would then hitchhike back to Crystal, get his car, hook up the trailer drive back to the glider, go in a bar or a restaurant and convince someone to come out and help him put it in the box. He then drove back to Crystal put it together and did it all over again. I think he was there for two or three weeks.
Hey Stefan, that was interesting, they have upgraded their simulator quite a bit. I was very impressed with two of the CFIs they have (or had) there at the Southern California Soaring Academy. One of them, Dale, had about 15,000 hours in gliders, but he retired. They also have a bunch of new sailplanes to chose from. Hope you get to fly the area, the last time I flew there we had gusts of 60 knots at the ridgeline. It's a good place to train!
Haha, thought the same when I edited the video. We started the flight in the air, so the mechanical gear lever on the sim rig was still extended. In this case Condor only recognizes the change ;)
I want to be a pilot.
Go for it. Glider flying in clubs is surprisingly affordable.
Yes, find a Club and go for it!
Go for it!

I want also fly
Me too
Then find a gliding club in your area and make a trial flight :)
I soloed there in 1976 in a 2-33, my instructor was Carol Lynn Moe. One of the high lights of my life!

im flying with the RAF air cadets in a week! cant wait as gliding looks very fun!
2:46 -> Stefan found an outstanding lift 🙂
One of my glider students is 12! (Granted he can’t solo until 14 (or have his license until 16), but he’ll be an all-star by then.
Hey, Stefan, Come on down to Warner Springs - a 7 day a week operation northeast of San Diego. Great soaring too.

I am in suspense did Stefan make it the following week? Or has it already been shot.
