47:45 Tiamut was probably going to feed on all of us when he hatched completely; like the powerpoint Cersei reviewed on how a Celestial is born just blew up the planet, but mechanically I think they’re a fresh newborn in need of external nourishment
@@alecfigueroa5769 Yeah they actually seem thrown off quite a bit. I like watching them a lot but damn I be screaming at the screen sometimes when they discuss stuff lmao
I LOVE the Makkari scenes, every scene she's in makes me excited, not just because of the speedster stuff but she just exudes this energy that I enjoy watching.
Not that I'm complaining, but this question just popped into my head. If the eternals are made artificially, does that mean Makkari was designed to be unable to speak?
I will say seeing the celestial’s on the big screen was definitely worth the watch. As a comic book fan seeing these larger than life ultra powerful beings was a marvel(no pun intended). And to think this is probably what Galactus will be like.
Its definetely interesting as a concept, but what bugged me, it wasnt at all in the movie. Coming from critics I thought there is too little action in Eternals and they dont like it, because it focuses more on the character, than effects, but it was quite the opposite to my suprise. Everything was beautiful as hell... But I couldnt care less. Main character was bland, instead of showing emotions and making connections to others, Sersi was just focused on throwing the same exposition on people over and over and moving the plot forward. I didnt feel characters at all, until they clash in third act, but it was hard to only start caring about them 20 minutes before the movie ended.
Yep, they almost all are connected to some sort of myth or ancient religion. Phastos = Hephaestus. Ikarus, the Greek myth of the boy who flew too close to the sun. Thena = Athena. Gilgamesh...is Gilgamesh, a king of the ancient Sumerians who was fabled to have immense strength. Sprite is a reference to fairies. Druig is...I think...supposed to coincide with the Welsh word for "dragon" (Ddraig). Sersi is a references to the Greek goddess named Circe who also can transform things. Ajak is Ajax the Greek mythic hero. Kingo is...well, nobody knows from what I can tell, but the best guess I've read is that his name is a reference to a very minor Babylonian god named Kingu.
@@ms_scribbles Well firstly, Circe was an enchantress, not a goddess. Second, Ajak also inspired the legend of Quetzalcoatl from Mesoamerican myth. Also, fun fact: Sprite not only also helped to inspire the myth of Puck, but (in the comics at least) they also inspired the creation of Peter Pan when they performed their illusions in front of J. M. Barrie.
@@cassecorrea That was the connection I made. It would link the Irish accent too. Actually, I wonder is there even an in-universe reason for Eternals to look/sound like they belong to different ethnic groups from Earth.
This movie should have been a series. It had everything going for it to be a series. Large cast. A family dynamic. Lingering questions on what they've done in the time they were separated. An exploration on how they've affected the history of the Earth. Etc etc. Tl;dr Should have been a series.
I HAD THIS SAME THOUGHT!!! It would've been way more fun to see their misadventures through the ages (with the big plot sprinkled throughout), then the lighthearted moments could shine more and not get in the way of the more serious moments. Would also give us more reason to care about ANY of the characters (Icarus and Ajak especially, so the audience could feel genuinely betrayed by his actions later)
@@immanuelivanovich8638 a small handful. I think I can only make a case for Spider-Man though because he lends himself to any form of linear episodic format. Maybe antman too but I don't see it working out for anyone else
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps I get what you mean but it's still a 50/50 on if it turned out good according to the crew behind and daredevil also lends himself to episodic formats. I depends hero to hero like I can't in my head see Iron man or captain america in a live action TV show because of the scale of their individual stories and how they operate. Same way I thought the inhumans series was so bland I'd rather it be a movie to cut out x y and z. It's all case to case I suppose Also the 2003 movie was done by 20th century fox not Sony
Fun Facts: - The director confirmed there is indeed a full Karun footage - Chloe Zhao said that if the movie is liked, she's not opposed to bring certain "world-devouring" enemy in the sequel.
I really hope they move forward with these guys story regardless of how the movies received I think marvels made enough highly profitable movies they can afford a few that don’t blow up at the box office. I personally loved this movie and just about every performance in it.
@@ypurdad Feige doesn't care about critical reception when it comes to a sequel. If he has a plan he intends to execute it. If he just said "ok no more movies" as soon as one got badly reviewed we would've been done with the MCU with The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor The Dark World, Age of Ultron, etc. Reception on those movies are infamously not pleasant. This is slightly different since its the lowest reviewed out of ALL the movies (which is bs, AntMan 2 is FARRRRRRRR worse), but I have no doubt Feige is sticking to his plan.
I think Ego is the reason why Arishem created the Deviants and then the Eternals. Ego feels like an incomplete Celestial who's growth was stunted because intelligent life on his world was wiped out before he could fully grow.
Great theory, not heard it before either which is rare with marvel

This is the second time Don Lee has played a charming lovable man with powerful strength who's willing to sacrifice himself for his loved ones. First was Train To Busan (the dad) and here (Gilgamesh)! This guy is so awesome.
Oh he's played that role many, many times. As a hard nosed cop bringing down a crime syndicate in The Outlaws, as a husband punching half of Seoul in the mouth on his way to rescuing his kidnapped wife in Unstoppable, as a deity in Along With The Gods 2 . . . the list goes on.
I love Don Lee and just before watching the movie I said out loud "he better not die this time". Should've known better, but his characters are still the best :'))
Not sure what it is but I absolutely love the way they've done the celestials. The sheer size of them had me in awe in every scene they were in, especially the scene where Arishem is staring at Earth, looked so eerie
I like seeing that even the weaker Eternals still have their own skills outside of their main powers. For Example, Druig clearly being able to hold his own in a fight, and clearly being stronger than any just regular human.
Loved this movie. I think the greatest strength is that it's so completely different from the usual MCU formula. I can see how some may not enjoy that as much, which is fine, but I dig it.
Agreed, like in comic books, not every film should look and feel the same. They (Feige) should allow for different artistic approaches in the MCU. As much as I love the proven MCU formula, it starts to get old after more than 10 years and half a dozen new entries every year (movies and tv series). Comic books are still alive, because they allow writer & artists teams to find their own voice and style. I hope this also happens in the MCU in the next decade.
I absolutely loved it too! I was actually worried cause so many people I know were excited for it but then didn't like it. I definitely have some things I didn't like and feel could have been done better but overall I thought it was excellent.
Fun fact, in the comics Arishem is titled "the Judge" which circles back to when he said he would return for judgement (I'm not sure if the word title is correct in this context because in the comics all the celestials have something attached to their name : Tiamut the Communicator, Eson the Searcher etc...)
I never saw MCU.. Up until Loki released on Disney+ and it's trailer looked stunning. So I searched and realised that it is a whole lotta movies before that.. Watched all the previous ones in a month. But now since i ama huge fan of Marvel,I want to experience it on big screen because many people said that Shang Chi on big screen was next level ( which I again watched on mobile) .. I haven't watched no way home so no spoilers please.. I asked my 4-5 friends and my brothers but no one follows Marvel.. Now the issue is that I really wanna watch Dr. Strange 2 in cinemas but I got no friends... I don't wanna go alone but also really really wanna watch it on big screen. What to do guys😭😭 P.S.- Sorry for long comment.
I went with 0 expectations in after I saw the critics, feared it could go overboard with so many new characters and fall flat. But I liked the characters, the visuals and the pacing. It wasn’t boring at all. The fight scenes were very smoothly filmed without stupid cuts every second. The Deviants looked surprisingly great, the humor was there and well dosed in scenes, the music was pretty good. I also liked the idea with the flashbacks being on different major cities throughout time. Every character got some time to shine - so the awsome cast was not wasted (except maybe Kit Harrington but he will return anyway so..) I get why many marvel fans won’t like this one - as it is not as quirky and adventurous as Shang Chi or a fanservice galore like Spider-Man, but it’s nice to see that they went for a different feel this time.
Yeah I'm in the same boat, honestly preferred the newer take on the MCU format, as much as I enjoyed No Way Home, felt too fan servicey and relied on nostalgia a little too much.
Nearly everything you said is actually wrong. It's incredible. The fight scenes sucks, very CGI heavy. The Deviants looks absolutely generic. The humor is terrible. Music was nothing special. Every character was underdeveloped. Marvel fanboys really need higher standards and not just accept schlock.
One of the things I really really loved was the fight scenes with the speedster. It didnt have the obligatory slow motion running scene that all speedster movies and tv shows have, not that theres anything wrong with those scenes its just we've seen them over and over. It was a nice change of pace to see someone fight using their speed in *real time* it made the fighting so much more intense!
The reason why the lighting and vfx shots looks amazing in the fight scenes and places is because they really went to those locations on Earth and not use heavy green screen. This is by far the best looking movie of the MCU that doesnt look like they are in front of a green screen
@@hamhockbeans which the MCU are only just figuring out, barely. They say Dr Strange 2 will be a horror movie but… I have little hopes it’ll be any different from every other comedy-fested generic action movie with cool visuals
@@barakaafrobama6519 they never confirmed Dr.Strange 2 to be a horror movie. It’s just going to have a horror *feel to it sort of speak. There’s a difference. Also, the x-men (Jean Grey, Prof. X and Magneto) and Mr. Fantastic are heavily rumored to be in it as well with the same actors from the Fox x-men films.
I didn’t really get the complaints about this movie. I love the character interactions, Ikaris is a great villain. And the role of the Deviants is interesting and thought provoking. Big fan of this movie
A few things. The main one being everyone at the time was obsessively sniffing another superhero's red and blue jock waiting for a trailer to drop, another being the same sex couple shown on screen, the change-up from the typical MCU film format, the emotional beats were a bit sparse and swapped for world building. I loved this film through and through but the haters were ready for a Marvel movie to "flop" so any bad or non-positive press or opinions the film got were immensely louder than the fans that enjoyed it.
I thought the pacing was really strange at some parts, but given the sheer amount of content and exposition this movie needed to get through I think they did the best they could. The Deviants were a letdown tho, they scratched the surface of some interesting themes like Kro growing into sentience and the similarities between Eternals and Deviants, but all this gets kicked to the wayside in the final act and Kro just kinda ends up like a generic baddy.
I really liked this movie, I can understand that it is not every one's cup of tea but I think it is underrated at this point. It gets more hate than it should.
Hard agree. Like it's not the greatest MCU movie or anything but it is not even close to being the worst MCU movie like some people want you to believe.
43:50 very true, most characters don't become mainstream until they're in the mcu. Guardians of the Galaxy, Thanos, Thor, even Iron Man was classed a B list hero before being introduced.
No movie I have ever seen in my life has ever given me such an overwhelming and believable sense of scale both in physical terms and also in terms of overarching plot. You realize that EVERYTHING that has happened in the MCU, even the events of Endgame up until this point has been practically a footnote in the thousand plus page tome of the history of the universe.
That's why I think upon the arrival of other films in the franchise, the rewatching quality of this film will increase immensely. That is MCU's forte after all, when you rewatch a film after later instalments, you feel like a sense of structure and continuity so it becomes satisfying and you feel like the effort and time you put into this universe pays off. With this big of a scope, Eternals have the effect on the cinematic universe that no other film in the franchise has. Feige knows what he is doing.
It wasn’t included in your reaction but I really loved the scene where Druig cries when talking about how he’s witnessed so many wars and so much death and he has the power to stop it and prevent it but wasn’t allowed to. Really loved that moment.
Also just watched this for the first time and have no idea why it got mediocre reviews. Really enjoyed it a lot and Marvel needed something that felt different from the standard superhero formula.
Because the Deviants didn't amount to anything of consequence, and didn't give enough of an explanation why the Eternals did not interfere with Thanos.
A not so popular opinion, Eternals is a great movie. Just finished watching it on Disney+. And to simply put-Not every marvel movie has to be tons of action. Some just tell a story. The unique story telling of this movie gives it a tonal and aesthetic difference from other marvel films making it fresh. Its visually arresting scenes alone makes the movie worth watching-from the godly scope of the Celestials to the grounded real-world locations. This is honestly one of my favorites MCU movies. Top 10 easily. The scene between the Eternals at the Aztec empire almost made me cry. It was fascinating how "human" and how much of a complicated family they really were for being "superheroes”. It touched on so many themes: destiny, duty, authority, self-determination, hope. Every character represented a slightly nuanced view of humanity and I was invested into each one. All of them had different motivations and it really added depth. It had amazing dialogues and complex characters like Thena and I'm impressed with how well they made me care for them. Even though the movie is lore-centric, it did not fall behind on the actions either, they gave us the best speedster fight from my girl Makkari and beautifully choreographed combat from Thena. Chloe Zhao made the magnitude of the story work. A very beautifully presented movie and one that I am happy with. I was always invested and even the end credits were interesting to watch. Eternals is better than critics are saying and this is why sites like Rotten Tomatoes shouldn’t be taken as gospel. I will not deny that the movie has its flaws, there are missteps but I like the way it set upped repercussions for future MCU movies. Could the movie have been better if it was a series or trilogy? Probably yes, only for more character development. We would have loved to see Phastos losing trust in humanity then finding love, see Druig slowly descending into tyranny, sprite finding the beauty of humanity and being envious of it and so many more. BTW, I completely love Druig, he’s the character I attach most with, he is my bias among the Eternals haha. Who’s yours?
The point at the start, “not every marvel movie has to be tonnes of action”. This movie has more action scenes than most marvel movies. I don’t know why I don’t like this movie, was rlly Excited for it but came out the cinema like “meh” which I don’t usually get from marvel.
My problem was that the pacing of the movie was weird. And the writing was not as good as some of the other MCU movies. It’s was just lacking. And I got bored with some of the characters. Namely Ikarus and Sersi. Angelina Jolie did a fantastic job. She took a terrible script and managed to still give an emotional performance for her character. Even the moments when she didn’t have lines, her facial expressions alone were enough.
...unfortunately, your analysis of the movie's context depth doesn't translate through the plot once the movie start playing. Its still has very obvious signs of execution being off throughout the pacing. Mostly viewers would get bothered by Thena's odd mental jerking reasons that don't go well in particular scene plots like she pose as one of the powerful Eternal characters so what's up with that shit. If she represents the human mind conflicts its poorly done.
This movie was a lot of fun. I loved Makkari's fight with Ikaris. The music was awesome there. Though I do wish I had more time with some characters. 150 minutes long and yet I felt it was rushed.
Is that the fast girl? That was my favorite fight scene, speedsters attacking something will never cease to be an amazing visual, they can do so many things with their speed.
@@Randomyoutubecommenter Ieah but what did she do? I keep watching the scene and, correct me if Im wrong, shes not hitting Ikaris or the Deviants. Its like shes running and stopping. And the force of the air in front of her is hitting the enemy.
@@Antwannnn yea I believe she’s making a sonic boom so basically the energy from the sonic boom is pounding into her enemies as she stops right in front of them
I'm not a comics reader for the Eternals specifically so I might be wrong, but they specified INTELLIGENT LIFE was needed for the Celestial to grow. So my assumption is that something about the intelligence of humanity allows the Celestial to hatch. In a very magic or spiritual sort of way, I imagine it means that the consciousness of 8 billion ish sentient life forms are what will feed or generate enough power for the Celestial, since it couldn't happen with the dinosaurs or any non sentient life forms.
That’s pretty much it. Humans emit a very small amount of cosmic energy and the egg was absorbing all that throughout the years till it was ready to pop
Seeing Mikari is so good, she’s easily the best looking speedster we’ve seen in media, the moving normal speed while everyone is standing still is overplayed, it’s nice seeing someone moving fast and hard hits. This is the best flash vs superman fight we’re probably going to see in live action lol
"This is the best flash vs superman fight we’re probably going to see in live action lol" I thought the exact same thing, better than Justice League's fight
Whenever I’ve asked the people who say they didn’t like the movie One of their biggest criticism is that it feels too “woke”. Which to me is pretty crazy considering how little time they devote to any real agenda pushing. I think just the mere existence of diversity is an affront to some people
Most people are gullible, if there are those who say the movie is woke because of the diversity of the cast, they are bound to believe it without watching the movie. They can't even decide for themselves.
The only thing that did make me raise an eyebrow is the idea of a superpowred being created by a god having a disability. Seems to be no good in universe explanation for that. I nonetheless enjoyed her character a lot.
Weird that its considered "woke" to represent an actual variety of people that exist in the world, lol. I guess some people would prefer that only people exactly like them are represented in film
1. Eros/Starfox, the reason you recognize him Eric is because that is the musician, now actor, former and most popular member of One Direction, Harry Styles 2. Dane Whitman is a character known as the Black Knight and the sword is passed down through his family and if ur not like a good person, it has a tendency to turn you bad like(at least in the comics) his uncle who was the previous black knight and was evil
After a second viewing of Eternals, I actually enjoyed it. I think I was too harsh on it the first time around. The soundtrack is what stands out the most to me! Love it Ramin Djawadi is phenomenal at his craft.
Gilgamesh (Don Lee), clearly drawn from Mesopotamian mythology and the Epic of Gilgamesh. The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of humanity’s oldest recorded stories, telling of the mighty hero-king and his travels, including his hunt for immortality. In the movie, Gilgamesh proved to have the raw strength worthy of going down in legend but also proved to have a far more gentle and caring side to him as he cared for his partner Thena over the centuries as her mind crumbled under the weight of repressed memories.
Hands down my favourite Marvel film. I loved the indie film narrative storytelling that earns its action scenes. Bold, dense, compelling. I want the sequel announcement.
For me personally, I really like the movie. It connected with me, but at the same time I can see why people dislike it. I even told my friends (who are Marvel comic and movie fans) who haven’t seen the movie yet that I wouldn’t be surprised if they were bored with it.
Dude, couldn't of said it better myself. It's one of those films where I think everyone who likes it can see why a lot of people don't and the people who don't like it can see why a lot of people do. It's a film I think we can at least all agree is a step to something bigger and better, kinda like how Captain America The First Avenger led to Captain America The Winter Soldier.

Saw someone saying Thanos has a form of Mahd Wy’ry. He’s an eternal with deviant bloodline. His whole purpose was to cut the amount of life in half but because his mind kept collapsing after being alive for so long, it went from him thinking it was to prevent the celestials into him doing it just because there wasn’t enough resources. Hence why he didn’t think of making more resources and only saw it right to cut the amount of life in half. It’s also stated in the movie that the blip, slowed the process down and it only started back up when everyone came back.
The director, Chloé Zhao, has stated that Eros is only the *adopted* brother of Thanos, so for all we know all the Titans just looked like that in the MCU. But regardless, Thanos has no Eternal or Deviant heritage this time around. Otherwise it'd probably be a major plot hole that the Eternals didn't interfere in the Infinity War if they were able to recognize Thanos as a Deviant.
@@tandnmom100 no he looks like that because of his eternal-deviant gene mutation that made him have the deviant syndrome that deformed him. but naturally all eternals on titan are human-looking, also eros isnt 'adopted' they are actually biological siblings.
@@Soutar3DG yes but a lot of thanos's strength and power comes from his mutated genes. if they made him not an eternal-deviant it would make sense because of how underpowered he is in mcu but it wouldnt explain why was he able to survive the infinity gauntlet snap (hulk with gamma ray mutated genes were incapacitated), he also destroyed the stones which *nearly* killed him but he still survived it. also why does he look like that because if everyone in titan looks like that it would just ruin titan and his whole backstory in comics, mcu does go different ways compared to comics but changing the whole race of people of a 'planet' is too far.
With all his star/sun imagery, I love that Icarus is essentially a reverse Lucifer. The powerful golden-boy who fell from grace because he couldn't rebel or think for himself. I'm not too well versed in the comics but all the books I've read characterize Icarus as an "arrow", a straightforward tool, a stoic hammer that sees every problem as a nail. It wasn't a stretch to turn him heel, and I'm so delighted I genuinely didn't see it coming.
I really liked that Ikaris wasn't even really a villain in terms of motivation. He does have a point about the trillions of unborn lives if a Celestial is never born. Also loved that the Celestials weren't really depicted as bad guys
Absolutely love this movie. The characters feel so real and human, there’s so much beautiful thematic elements, and the score and visuals are top class. Definitely my favorite MCU product ever alongside NWH
Given the introduction of Eros as Thanos brother is clear they are going with his comic origin: that Thanos is an experimental mix of Eternal and Deviant and that's why he looks like that and he is so powerful yet he has a twisted sense of morality and universal balance, kind of like a corruption of the Eternals and Celestials philosophy and mission. I would love seeing Thanos's origin and the destruction of Titan in a sequel, maybe make Galactus the being that killed that planet as a rogue Celestial.
Tp kinda answer the question concerning Tiamut's birth: The Celestials require intelligent life, which can be seen as a force or qn energy. I don't think it's an active thing but rather like an egg that requires warmth to hatch. I really loved the movie. It was a character driven story like we haven't seen in the MCU before. The mainfocus wasn't the deviants or even Tiamut hatching, but how love and friendship and family works in a way. And I really enjoyed those characters, because everyone of them had a standpoint, a point of view. There are some criticism I have - mostly that I wanted more Makkari. But then again it's amazing that she was the last Eternal we met and yet so many people fell in love with her character. But I think the characterisation was really beautiful and interesting. Ikaris might be seen just as a bad guy traitor, but he saw the rest of his family betraying their cause. He thought he was doing the right thing. Or Kingo, who had faith in Arishem, but decided against working against his family. Sprite, who was clearly almost angry at humans for showing her what she couldn't do but also angry with Arishem for making her that way - and she picked her side for her love and almost obsession with Ikaris.
in mythology "Tiamat" is a Dragon and the embodiment of saltwater and the primordial sea, also the band "Dissection" have a line about Tiamat in their song "Black Dragon" that reads "Tiamat, Queen of the formless deep, the eleventh seal is now broken, hark to your children's invocations and awaken from your dreadful sleep", just as an fyi
Eros is a eternal, Thanos is as well but with a deviant gene therefore he looked the way he did. Also, hence why Thanos was so damn tough to bring down and only shed a tiny speck of blood against IronMan. Yes they are in the comics real brothers. 💙💛

This movie is a breath of fresh air to the MCU and I gotta give props to Marvel for trying something new. Say what you want but the cinematography is gorgeous, the score by THE MAN Ramin Djawadi is amazing, and the actors did their job wonderfully. I love Makkari, Sersi, Thena and Phastos the most. Can't wait to see more of Eternals in the future!
As soon as I saw him fighting that thing, the way he was interacting with the others, and his general body language, especially when it came to Ajak's death, I was also fairly certain that Ikaris was an antagonist. One of the first things I guessed right in the movie.
I personally loved this movie, when I came out of the theater I couldnt believe how much I liked every character and the way they connected them to humanity, especially how well done the phastos family scene was. The deviant plot didnt have the best conclusion but everything else was great for me, the cinematography and more technical stuff really amazed me on the big screen and I dont usually pay much attention to that
@@giuseppepiuma1965 I mean he did just want to kill everybody and everything. Sentience isn't a redeeming quality if you're just going to use it for destruction
They actually explained the whole celestial needing significant amounts of energy to emerge in the trailer for Eternals but they cut that scene out of the movie. The trailer specifically said that it was the energy released from all of life being snapped back into existence at once that kick started the emergence. That specific energy serge was also something the avengers discussed in the beginning scenes of Endgame (I think Rocket was the one who brought it up).
I was so invested with the characters and story of this movie. The stakes were big, characters were likable (even Icarus and Sprite in that old fashioned GOT kinda way) and I just really enjoyed this movie a lot! Can I also say that Sersi's transmutation of the celestial at the end is a giant treat! Also, shout out to the stuff this movie sets up for future Marvel stories.
Re-watching this movie makes me appreciate how well they showed a speedster's powers, especially after the last failed attempts in the DC universe. Makkari is the best speedster I've seen in the cinema in a looong time!
4:53 One of my favorite musical moments in the MCU: those ethereal choirs heralding the arrival of the visitors from the sky. Gives me goosebumps every time. @_@
The argument was Cosmic energy. The more people inhabits the planet the more cosmic energy available for the emergence to happen. They talked about it in the plot sipnosis. Cheers guys
What i meant was, in theory we all have some cosmic energy. So the more people the more cosmic energy available. Once there was enough life on earth to create the emergence, Thiamut would come out.
Just saw this yesterday. Was a very entertaining movie. Loved Thena. and my favorite scene was when Druig molly whopped the ever living crap out of Sprites head and for some reason it was so satysfying and funny at the same time I could not stop laughing for a good 10 min. Edit: just watched the video. The guy talking to Jon Snow in the end credit scene is the new Blade.
I was surprised how easy it was for me to memorize the names of the characters so quickly. I thought I was going to be like, "Is the narrow-eyed guy kingo? What the heck was that deaf girl's name again?" I think that shows how well Chloe Zhao familiarized us with the characters.
I've heard the theory that Thanos was also an eternal and knew about Celestials, that's why he wanted to eraise half of population (instead provide more food and stuff) so new celestaials just couldn't be born. That theory blown my mind :D
New celestial would still be born, thanos erasing half of life only delayed celestial emergence on every host planets. If he wanted to stop celestial from being born, he would have need to completly erase all life on celestial host planets or destroy them
@@bashengatheblackmanta7003 Thanos erasing half the population was potentially his first step. He only destroys the stones because his viewpoint changes so there was likely more to his plan
@@bashengatheblackmanta7003 very true, perhaps he hoped the universe would never reach that level of population again or that someone else would be his successor and use the stones if the population grew too high
@@bashengatheblackmanta7003 erasing all life on celestial host planets or destroing them would be complitly agains what Thanos want to do all long, He killed people to make "better" universe if he destroy celestial's host planet Arishem will find another planet for celestial to be born. Only erasing population or killing the celestial will stop this. I agree with you that erasing half of life was Thanos plan all along but when he's telling why he is doing this he always says that he want to bring balance to the universe - stop overpopulation and provide resources to feed the other half. Same result could be achived also by providing resources.
I adore this movie. Top 10 MCU for me and second favourite movie of phase 4. I love all their unique power sets but I think Phastos’ are my favourite. He just comes out with some badass weapons during the beach fight.
I really enjoyed this movie, I feel like the majority of the negative reviews came from a combination of those with too high expectations, wanting more action, not invested enough in the MCU to absorb all the information that’s dumped on the viewer and of course the typical bigotry when you have such a diverse cast Not to say that it’s perfect or that there aren’t plenty of people who just didn’t like it for perfectly valid reasons because of course there are, I just think that the valid criticisms were blown out of proportion by those other groups
Really surprised by this movie, i don't know why i heard so many negative things. Even from reviewers/reactors that i usually trust. Well they lost my trust because this was highly entertaining and a great looking movie. Shame people talked it down so much, hopefully doesn't hurt the future cuz i want more

I think the reviews are somewhat justified. I felt that the movie was very oddly structured and paced and the reveal would be more interesting if it was made through Thena's memories resurfacing instead of a giant exposition dump. I'm torn, I wanted to like it and the visuals are great but I have big issues with the writing. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though.
@@hawkins347 I don’t claim it to be a masterpiece without flaws, but a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, rating it as the worst movie in the MCU? Not by a long shot imo. I’ll take Eternals over the generic-ass “Ant-Man and the Wasp-esque” MCU movies any day of the week. The reviews worried me for that reason. We’ve all been saying that we want to see these movies trail off of the repetitive, generically-fine cookie-cutter path, and explore new stuff. Then they finally do and everyone shits on it. Looks like we’re getting sucked right back into the Marvel cookie-cutter cabinet. Hopefully they pay more attention to the audience reception than the critics’.
@@brennanbarber7469 Oh I agree with you. It's not on the bottom for me either, and I'd probably give it about 60%, and I appreciate the beautiful cinematics and trying to veer from the formula, but I think it deserved a better script. It felt to me like somebody wrote out the big set pieces in Babylon and Tenochtitlan first and then struggled connecting them to the present day story. And the story follows a formula of introducing a concept and then explaining it in a flashback and this repeats about three or four times. I think it could've been structured better. Maybe it could've benefited from being a mini-series, just to pace it a bit better and let us spend more time with the characters. Giving it 47% is definitely overdramatic, though, I've seen way worse movies in my life.
@@hawkins347 Personally, the lowest I could give it is a 70%. I thought it was super enjoyable, I was surprised how well the family dynamic was expressed on screen despite only just being introduced to every single character that appeared in the movie lol the action was some of my favorite. I’m very very much looking forward to seeing where the story and characters go from here. This movie EASILY beats Shang Chi for me. I know I’m in the minority but I’d almost go so far as to say I disliked Shang Chi.
Just watched Emergency Awesome who says they have brought out deleted scenes. He says they explained Starfoxs relationship to Thanos. He was an eternal and wanted to stop the emergence on Titan by getting rid of half the population but was unsuccessful. Starfox and Thanos were part of the 10 celestials sent to Titan. Really is nteresting.
The floating and flying in this movie is the best I’ve ever seen in any film! The cinematography is so top notch. I enjoyed this movie! I’m glad to see you you guys cover it!
Eternals is a pretty dang good movie with some beautiful imagery & themes and it did not deserve to be hated on just because a lot of people are simpletons and can’t broaden their skewed horizon, this movie has its flaws but people treated it like it was as bad as WW84…I’ll die on this hill
I genuinely don't understand the bad reviews this movie got. it's in my top 10 MCU movies, possibly top 5. and Makari is probably my favourite live action speedster ever
- I liked this movie, it stands out from the general concept of superheroes, it is unique, the landscape, camerawork, casting, ost, everything is on top - I also liked that Thanos was right without knowing it, having prevented Arishem's plan by preventing population growth by reducing it, and it turns out all the lives of mankind were meaningless because their goal was to irrigate the earth to eventually become a victim for the birth of Celestial! - Eros is a kind of galactic womanizer, he was with the Avengers, and in some comic book arcs he saved Thanos. - The Black Knight (Kit Harrington) collaborated with Blade)))
I don't get the criticism of this film. I mean, I guess it could be because of a lack of "action/quips" but it was amazing. It told a wonderful story of faith/duty/loyalty vs love/family/right. I absolutely loved it.
Love this movie. It's probably the most beautifully shot movie in the MCU and somehow they had me invested in ten new completely different characters. That is an incredible feat to be honest. Hopefully we get to see them in the future and Feige doesn't take the hate it got to push them to the side.
Really enjoyed this film, seems alot of the hate, that I've come across anyway, is from people who've grown accustomed to the usual MCU formula and don't watch many slower paced films/ character driven stories/dramas, obviously not everyone, but for the most part that I've seen that is the case
@The Cracked Lenses I disagree. You learned more about the characters in those episodes. A lot of people complained about the first two episodes in Hawkeye, when we were meeting Kate Bishop and setting up the story.
I just found the characters and story-telling very messy, with a lot of weird things included that are distracting and aren't explained or just are pointless.
@@maleficking6556 I definitely agree there are some flaws and I'd never claim it to be a perfect movie, I also think there's an issue of too much and repetitive exposition, but its still a very enjoyable watch, for me at least, and I don't think it at all deserves the bombardment of bad reviews as if every marvel movie doesn't have it's flaws
I agree! If Chloe Zhao can identify the flaws with this movie, and direct a sequel, she could potentially have the greatest MCU film. Either her or Nia DaCosta with “The Marvels”
@@FOOJFOOJIYAMA Have you seen her other films? Do you know she is an Oscar Winner? She is a great director. I think she was a tad bit overwhelmed while directing such a gigantic movie like Eternals. If she gets to direct the sequel I believe she will do a way better job at it. If you haven't seen her others films and just judging by one then that is stupid, check out Nomadland, for which she won an Oscar for Best Directing. Great film, great story, great acting and flawless direction.
I agree with Eric about how humanity effects the birth of the Celestial. Also, I think it's not just about the energy of the human body specifically, but moreso about the energy they create in their inventions and how the affect of the things they created changed and influenced the environment of the planet.
Also, if you think about it even with Thano’s snap, five years the population was still growing. Then when the other half came back it probably helped Tiamut hatch.
I really enjoyed this movie. A high-powered cameo or tie-in like Thor would probably have won over the naysayers. He's had a few run-ins with the celestials. After seeing Makarri, Quicksilver sure got shafted though..
Fun fact: In the comics recently the Avengers HQ was based in the body of a Celestial (one with a different name). Don't see this happening in the MCU anytime soon, though.
if there's that much confusion, then the film did not do well communicating the information. personally I found it overegged, less would have been more for me.
@@Joy_56 you clearly don't undestand what I said or chosen to take half of what I said and try to spin it a certain way. 90% of the complaints they have are answered in the movie, not that 90% of the movie is confusing.
Makkari´s (the speedster) scenes where pretty nice i hope "The Flash" the movie can keep up and Ikaris flying didn´t look like he was on a string. It was a beautiful movie. Everybody is going to be an actor :D
A popular theory that was born from Thanos being revealed to be an Eternal, or at least the brother of one, is that he suffered from the same type of illness as Thena did and he knew that for some reason that killing half the population would save the lives of so many people but he didn’t know why so he invented the resource explanation to justify it
If you paid attention at the beginning when you heard the story of the Celestials being told as the Eternals were arriving on Earth you noticed what they knew of the Deviants prior to learning what the truth was about their mission. The Celestials lied to them about the origin of the Deviants and their own existence so it is quite safe to assume they lied about other things. They claimed to exist before the Infinity Stones and I don't think that is true. They told the truth about their purpose which is to create more life throughout the Universe, but they exist to try and stop Galactus as his purpose is to eventually consume all life energy in the Universe and then explode as the big bang to begin the next one. In the comics Galactus is actually the first being to exist in this Universe ( Even before Eternity who is the living embodiment of the Universe itself ) and was the last survivor of the previous one. He can not truly be classified as a "Villain" as he is not good or evil, he just is. What began with the events in the latest Spider-man film and will continue in the next Doctor Strange film will be opening up concepts from the Marvel Universe into the MCU that are very hard to grasp mentally. In one What If: Avengers story line from back in the 1980's a villain known as Korvac killed almost every Avenger before he was defeated, but they all died in the end with the death of the entire Universe and in the comics there are supposed to be an unlimited number of alternate realities, but since one was destroyed completely that meant there was one less than and infinite number. How do we even conceive of how many that is? I mean if there were an infinite number and one was destroyed how do you come up with a number to say how many are left. How do you go from an uncountable number to a countable one just because one is now gone? Btw, the guys in charge at Marvel comics eventually figured out the mistake they made by eliminating one alternate reality and wrote a story to bring that one reality back by having cosmic level characters such as Phoenix, Dr. Strange and several others break through the barriers from their own realities to the destroyed one that they represented as just empty white space and there they found the Ultimate Nullifier, which was used by a mind controlled Captain America to destroy the original reality and they used it to recreate that reality sacrificing themselves in the process and so they were now back to an infinite number of realities. Even though the math still made no sense people stopped thinking about it. How could taking one away from an infinite number suddenly make a finite number? Would that not really mean there was a finite number to begin with? People think time travel questions hurt your brain, but this one is worse.

I will say seeing the celestial’s on the big screen was definitely worth the watch. As a comic book fan seeing these larger than life ultra powerful beings was a marvel(no pun intended). And to think this is probably what Galactus will be like.
so true, the final scene was sick af in the cinema
Yeah it was truly terrifying. They really up-ed the ante on Antagonist power lol.
Yep, that scene at the end was genuenly scary. To see the scale like that.

I just realised "Phastos" = Hephaestus. It makes so much sense. Thena, Ikaris, and Gilgamesh are easier to place in terms of the names.
also makkari - mercury
M. Barrie.
I thought Druig was supposed to be from the being “Druid”

I like to think Marvel casted him BECAUSE of Train to Busan.

Same dude. It’s was glorious.

P.S.- Sorry for long comment.
Every character got some time to shine - so the awsome cast was not wasted (except maybe Kit Harrington but he will return anyway so..)
I get why many marvel fans won’t like this one - as it is not as quirky and adventurous as Shang Chi or a fanservice galore like Spider-Man, but it’s nice to see that they went for a different feel this time.
Good review, the movie wasn’t my favorite but not as bad as the critics made it out to be.

A few things. The main one being everyone at the time was obsessively sniffing another superhero's red and blue jock waiting for a trailer to drop, another being the same sex couple shown on screen, the change-up from the typical MCU film format, the emotional beats were a bit sparse and swapped for world building.
I agree and I wish that people would be more open minded to their favorite franchises taking risks

Makkari’s fight with Ikaris was stunning in theatre.
Is that the fast girl? That was my favorite fight scene, speedsters attacking something will never cease to be an amazing visual, they can do so many things with their speed.

You're absolutely right. It needed a specific amount of intelligent life and earth had reached the right population for the celestial to emerge.

I don’t really like the film, and it being “woke” is not the reason.
It’s just that the plot is too big and thus boring and not feeling personal. Also too many characters to feel attached to anyone.
Karun needs to come back in the blade movie, he's gonna freak out with the vampire stuff.
1. Eros/Starfox, the reason you recognize him Eric is because that is the musician, now actor, former and most popular member of One Direction, Harry Styles
Love it
Ramin Djawadi is phenomenal at his craft.
Photography is great too imo

Yeah, his work on this and Game of Thrones is just amazing. Great music.
Mr. Mahershala Ali's voice is smooth as it gets. Looking forwards to seeing him as Blade

@@BaldwinIV_of_Jerusalem In the comics yes, but in the MCU nothing of the sort has been stated, only that he is a dude from Titan
So wait, if Thanos has Deviant traits then why couldn't the Eternals fight him?
My fav are still the winter soldier & gotg
Given the introduction of Eros as Thanos brother is clear they are going with his comic origin: that Thanos is an experimental mix of Eternal and Deviant and that's why he looks like that and he is so powerful yet he has a twisted sense of morality and universal balance, kind of like a corruption of the Eternals and Celestials philosophy and mission. I would love seeing Thanos's origin and the destruction of Titan in a sequel, maybe make Galactus the being that killed that planet as a rogue Celestial.
I took it as Eros was assigned to Titan, like our Eternals were assigned to Earth, and became close friends with Thanos.
I fucking love this film. I get it’s a little slow but that’s to be expected with how many characters there are, but holy shit is it good
The Harry Styles and Blade after credit scenes were awesome!
Yes I love them
Tp kinda answer the question concerning Tiamut's birth: The Celestials require intelligent life, which can be seen as a force or qn energy.
Saw this in IMAX and it was totally worth it. Such great effects, art design, and spectacle.
in mythology "Tiamat" is a Dragon and the embodiment of saltwater and the primordial sea, also the band "Dissection" have a line about Tiamat in their song "Black Dragon" that reads "Tiamat, Queen of the formless deep, the eleventh seal is now broken, hark to your children's invocations and awaken from your dreadful sleep", just as an fyi
Eros is a eternal, Thanos is as well but with a deviant gene therefore he looked the way he did. Also, hence why Thanos was so damn tough to bring down and only shed a tiny speck of blood against IronMan. Yes they are in the comics real brothers. 💙💛
I thought Thanos was an alien race called titans.
@@Nekotaku_TV For MCU or Earth -199999, Thanos is a titan. In the comics or Earth 616, Thanos is a child of two eternals but has a deviant syndrome. No one:
Calvin: "The Deviant can heal?🤔..Icarus is a villain."
As soon as I saw him fighting that thing, the way he was interacting with the others, and his general body language, especially when it came to Ajak's death, I was also fairly certain that Ikaris was an antagonist. One of the first things I guessed right in the movie.
Heres the easiest way to explain Celestrial growth while inside a planet.
Each time a person dies, is when Tiamut subsumed their life essence
I personally loved this movie, when I came out of the theater I couldnt believe how much I liked every character and the way they connected them to humanity, especially how well done the phastos family scene was.

Edit: just watched the video. The guy talking to Jon Snow in the end credit scene is the new Blade.
yeah, Angelina had much more to do in this, I was surprised. And she was great!
I was surprised how easy it was for me to memorize the names of the characters so quickly. I thought I was going to be like, "Is the narrow-eyed guy kingo? What the heck was that deaf girl's name again?" I think that shows how well Chloe Zhao familiarized us with the characters.
I think this is one of the best mcu movies, there’s so much heart in it.
Think of it as Tiamut suddenly getting years worth of power in an instant, that in turn powered the emergence to take a leap forward.
Yea that’s how I took it. I mean billions of people popped up on the planet all at once
I've heard the theory that Thanos was also an eternal and knew about Celestials, that's why he wanted to eraise half of population (instead provide more food and stuff) so new celestaials just couldn't be born. That theory blown my mind :D

It felt to me like somebody wrote out the big set pieces in Babylon and Tenochtitlan first and then struggled connecting them to the present day story. And the story follows a formula of introducing a concept and then explaining it in a flashback and this repeats about three or four times. I think it could've been structured better. A popular theory that was born from Thanos being revealed to be an Eternal, or at least the brother of one, is that he suffered from the same type of illness as Thena did and he knew that for some reason that killing half the population would save the lives of so many people but he didn’t know why so he invented the resource explanation to justify it
sick theory
