As a retired pastor who formally was a CoC minister for over 25 years, your comments were well stated. I was brought up in the confines of the CoC from the age of 2 weeks old. My Father was an elder in the CoC for about 20 years. I've even written a book about these types of "patterns." One extra note on Walter Scott. His plan originally was 6 points, but narrowed it down so that he could teach the "pattern" on the fingers of one hand to the youth in each new city where they held a meeting.
I'm 74 years old and back in the 50s and 60s, CofC members were thrilled to be called "Campbellites." I know that sounds strange, but is true. They took pride in being associated with Campbell, Stone, Scott and others. The good news for me personally, is that God gave me time to see things differently, but still hold some of the scars from the old days. Thanks for your video.

Thanks for the clarification on the six steps and the historical background. That’s interesting that many back then were proud of being called Campbellites. It makes me wonder if seeing it as insult was a more recent development as a circling of wagons.

@@kineaster1845 I did notice a shift in the late 70s and beyond. I also notice that CoC members were more familiar with their beginnings in my early years. Most current day CoC members know very little about their actual beginnings. Back in the 1800s when Walter Scott and others would hold a meeting from town to town, folks like Walter Scott would first speak to the young people using that five point plan (which back then was better known as "5 point exercise"). The idea was that if you got the young people interested, then they would invite their parent for the "gospel meetings." Later in Scott's life he regretted that 5 point plan. He saw how his church had almost made it the Word of God itself. But at that time, it was too late. It was like a raging fire that took hold of their faith movement.

At the 3:49 mark, they're simply Christians. So "what faith are you?" I always said Christian, or the faith of Jesus Christ. Now over the past 10 years I hear they always say "Church of Christ." IDK, it seems in the '90s no one answer that way. It's a very denominational way of thinking.
And yeah, I can relate how they reading the bible in piecemeal and not as by the books of the Bible. It's very important for them for anyone to catch their spin on the scriptures and don't deviate from it. Bless the Pattern.

Thank you for this! It’s never explicitly stated, but the implications over years and years is quite brainwashing. Mix that with fear and…
I’m in the middle of deconstructing. Thank you.

No I haven’t. I enjoyed watching the Ehrman/Butt debate. I laughed when Ehrman was surprised that CofC people don’t identify as Evangelical.

I'm a member of the church of Christ and no one else is born again. If you are not in the church of Christ, Romans 16:16. You cannot be saved.

@Snioc-m4j What church are you a member of? I want to be a member of the church found in the Bible, the church the apostles are in. I know the apostles were not in the Lutheran church for example because it did not exist when the apostles lived.

@@bellcoolmountain6650 Just because you call yourself CoC means absolutely nothing!
The Church of God is "in the NT" a dozen times and they also claim to be the one true church!
      They've got you beat....12 to 1 ! (They are also a Cult!)
The CoX (as I call it) does not teach the Gospel and they have no idea what the true Gospel is!
