You really have to watch the movie to understand this song. Each character is special, and knowing their stories explains WHY they're singing WHAT they're singing and the mood changes (beat changes) that accompany each character. It really is a great movie! Not gonna lie, I got emotional watching it.
4:14 shes saying how "bruno says it look like rain" but he was implying her sweat and she says it flooded her brain she got so nervous abt what he said and bc her gift is controlling the weather with her emotions, it stormed
What a lot of people don't catch is that Isabella is also angry with Bruno. He told her that the "life of her dreams would be promised, and someday be (hers)", but that never came true. Later in the movie you see how what she actually wanted was to be free of all the expectations placed on her, and how he clearly saw through her "perfection", gleaning her true desires. In the end, she does get that life, making his prophecy come true.
At the end, the Madrigal family members sing in a musical madrigal style arrangement. Lin-Manuel Miranda loves to arrange his pieces like this. And since he was involved from the very beginning (as opposed to Moana, where he was brought in later for the music), all the musical numbers in the movie are so perfectly arranged, it's hands down the best Disney soundtrack ever. He even had a hand in naming Bruno, since he seriously wanted to use that "Bruno, no, no, no!". Bruno was supposed to be called Oskar in the beginning. Oh, and you want bars? Just like everyone else said, check out "Surface Pressure".
Here is the synopsis of the movie: The Madrigals are an extraordinary family who lives hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift-- every child except for Mirabel. However she soon may be the Madrigals last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger.
@@ToneyReactions Same. And it was SO deep. Lin Manuel-Miranda outdid himself in the message, and the voice acting and singing were just AMAZING. I CRIED throughout this movie because of all the emotions.
You've noticed several times how the sound of the voices "moves" when the characters shift their position. I'm sure you've noticed the extensive choreography (most prominent in the finale, but you can see it almost throughout the entire song). The thing is, in this choreography camera is treated as one of the dancers. That's why it dances along with the others, changing its position and "watching" direction constantly. While it wasn't explained in the interview where it was said, I believe to make this impression wholesome they had to apply this to voices as well. You may also want to find a video where the screen is split horizontally, with one part showing the movie and the other the actual choreography done by real dancers as it was being recorded.
I think the coolest part of this song is when they call out "Time for dinner!" That's when it changes from individual verses to everyone singing all at once. Each character's verse was an ingredient or dish and now it's all served together as a meal as they all sing together.
it's pretty cool and there's a nice little detail hidden in there: if you pay close attention to Isabela's verse in that part, you'll hear her repeating the words "I'm fine" - as you do when you're definitely totally fine
I know im late but that last part where they sing together is so awesome, just because of why they sung and how loud. The double meanings too, like yesssss I think the end was of who could tell the biggest lie, cause Bruno was a good guy, so that's partially why Camilo and Pepa are the loudest singers. Isabela could go both ways. The fake life of her "dreams" she was forced to love, or the real one. She seems neutral. Dolores sings quietly, not just because her superhearing would hurt her if she was loud, but because she painted the most realistic, good story about Bruno, but since they're not supposed to be that nice about him she had to stay quiet. Another detail I noticed was Pepa (weather girl) at the beginning acted mad about her husband talking, but there is no cloud, so it's obvious she wanted to talk lol. She probably brought up that story from her wedding that was 20 years ago cause she felt guilty her brother left. She had to dig to find a reason to hate him. Camilo was practically brainwashed anyway, but I wonder if he actually thought those things were real or he just took his theater kid self, grabbed some rumors, and ran with it just to scare Mirabel lol
I think Camilo heard rumors when he was 5, and he also heard about his scary room. (Which was his vision cave.) There's an Encanto comic where um, Bruno went to Julieta's kitchen to feed one of his rats. When all of a sudden, he had an unprompted vision about Camilo. And as for young Camilo, overheard his name, peeks in the kitchen and thinks that he sees a 7 foot tall man, that's singing. When a small pebble was rolled on the floor of their casita, Bruno turns around and sees young Camilo. 5 year old Camilo runs to his mama's room. Causing Bruno to imagine what Pepa would say if she found out.
They thought too much about it and ended up doing things that led to said bad things happening (big fish in a small bowl, eating too many sweets, worrying about hair loss).

Each of the Madrigals has a special gift and the aunt has the power to control the weather while she’s calm and happy but if she gets upset the weather can turn bad really fast. When Bruno came in and said “It looks like rain…” that got her nervous and she couldn’t stop thinking about it and so what was a beautiful clear sunny day became a hurricane! Her cousin Dolores, has a very powerful sense of hearing. She can clearly make out conversations happening on the opposite end of the village as her. That’s why she sings with such a soft voice.
This movie is based on a story by a family.in Colombia. That's their culture too the tee..see the movie you will like it. Bruno was the prophet..all the kids in the family were born with a gift.

If you haven't seen this movie yet, I highly recommend that you do. This song is classic misdirection. Everyone tells what little he/she knows about Bruno, but it doesn't add up to the whole story. Camilo (the shape-shifter) doesn't really know much about Bruno, as he was very young when Bruno disappeared. Bruno simply says what he sees, but the townspeople fail to realize that goldfish don't live long, bad eating habits cause health problems, male pattern baldness is common, and so on, and blame him for the things that happen. The beat doesn't really change, as it's 4/4 throughout, and the chord progression remains the same as well. Many songs can be written over the same chord progression, but it's tricky to write fou4 or more melodies that will complement each other when sung together. Lin-Manuel Miranda is a master at that, and it provides a lovely musical pun on the family name of Madrigal. Just for fun, check out this video by the now-disbanded Australian group Axis of Awesome. It demonstrates what I was saying about many melodies being written over the same basic chord progression: ua-cam.com/video/5pidokakU4I/v-deo.html
