I believe that this movie would be different musically if it wasn't written by Lin-Manual Miranda. 100% the best Disney Musical since Fantasia.
So many people would roll their eyes at this and say 'that's silly' but... I totally agree with you.
Respect your opinion but can’t agree. Not too much topping Lion King and Hercules and honestly Moana. But Lin is definitely a star with Disney music
Very different. Bruno only has that name because Lin wanted that "no" repetition for the song about him. Before that they were gonna call him Oscar!
This is one of the best Disney musical movies. And I respect ur opinion but I must disagree. Lion King is an excellent adaptation of one of Shakespeare's greatest plays and Frozen redefined saved by True Love literally. Not to mention the Little Mermaid kicking off the golden age. The amount of time spent on drawing bubbles alone and it being an inspiration to a generation of singers would put all of these in between Encanto and Fantasia.

This isn't really wrong, which in itself is wrong.
I recommend seeing the movie before the songs spoil you.
But if anything, DEFINITELY AVOID Dos Oruguitas.
It’s an amazing and emotional song that basically resolves the movie.
Oh William 🤗. You are now my #UA-camHero today!!! 👍🏽 You are the only other person I've come across who says NOT to see a video of Dos Oruguitas before seeing the full movie. Yes, that song is so beautiful and poignant, so it can be enjoyed. But to be FELT the way it's supposed to, it must be experienced AFTER going through the journey of the entire movie. Kudos to you!!

I fully agree that watching that video before watching the rest of the movie would ruin the emotional build up that the entire movie has been building to this point.
That and also the Song is a friggin tear jerker, and you will NOT be ready emotionally to stomach it until watching the film through to that point

One of my favorite things about this song in particular is that Abuela Alma is singing against the melody in this song (in fact, she's singing the melody to Dos Oruguitas which we hear later in the film) which makes her part very jarring. If you listen to the finale of the film, All of Us, which is a semi-reprise of The Family Madrigal, she sings with the melody for the first time. It's really clever storytelling once you know the plot of the film.

*NICE* catch of the hint of jealousy where it comes to Isabela (the “golden child”)! Mirabel is doing her best to hide her envy both from her audience and even, to an extent, from herself; not many (including me) pick up on it _that_ quickly.
You know I never quite picked up on the Envy or Jealousy even when watching the movie. I picked up that she didn’t like her but in the earlier parts of the movie even I wouldn’t of liked that sibling not because of them being “perfect” or “the golden child”, but because she acted like she was superior to her. Which to me is a good sign that a person isn’t perfect. Even my mom used the word Jealous but I can’t help but think Jealous of what? The powers? Everyone in her family except her uncle and dad had powers and she had no issues with them. What I do know is early on I got the vibe that her older sister didn’t like her and seemed to look down on her almost treating her like a fuck up. Her and the Grandma were the only two people that treated her this way and she seemed to butt heads with those two characters only

No, not of the powers, per se. Jealous of the fact that she [Isabela] seems to have no problems or difficulties in her life, and jealous of the fact that everybody thinks she's Ms Wonderful, while treating Mirabel like... she's only in the way. Or has nothing of value to offer.
@@StoryMing I'll be honest I'm not great with word definitions, but I feel like Jealous is the wrong word. Just from what I see she just doesn't seem to like her and we aren't seeing the very beginning of it. there seems to be an assumption of Jealousy but on both parts we see a disliking of each other. We don't get a real direct answer on why, but considering how the grandma treats Mirabel and that Isabela often follows whatever the grandma wants because she believes she is supposed to in order to be perfect would give good reason in my head for Mirabel to simply dislike her because Isabela treats Mirabel as less than.
To add on to this more Mirabel is shown to genuinely love her family and want the best for them. I don't think that type of person would be Jealous of anyone in their family being perfect or having no issues as long as they didn't treat her bad. I picture that if Isabela treat Mirabel well then Mirabel would have been nothing but happy for Isabela.

You can love people and still be jealous of them. Clearly Mirabel wishes the family (and particularly Abuela) treated her more like they do Isabela.
What's interesting is that Mirabel, while describing all of the super-powers of every family member, only describes Isabela as being "the perfect golden child." To her, that is Isabel's gift, not the fact that she can produce large volumes of plant life out of nowhere. That part isn't mentioned in the lyrics here at all.
@@elbruces yeah she did and maybe she does see it as her power but she really just didn’t want to be treated as a problem like her grandma was treating her as. When she made up with her towards the end I don’t remember a line being about her being Jealous of her or anything like that.

The grandma is the one character whose singing is voiced by a different actor. Olga Merediz, theater actress and Abuela in the stage and screen version of Lin Manuel's "In the Heights." You're right, her voice is a great gift to the world.

If you've seen "In The Heights," you know what she can do to your soul. I think they used a different voice actress for the talking parts because they wanted to make a point of having every character voiced by someone with a Columbian background.

If you DO watch it, I recommend you watch at least twice. You like to think about things so you can get a lot out of this movie on a second watch. When you're on that second, analytical watch, take note of the colors everyone is wearing. Yes, this film is subtle enough for wardrobe to have thematic importance. Ha! Love this movie!

My family literally just watched this movie while I was in the other room I came in towards the end started watching a little bit of it and I started crying and I don't know why
I absolutely love this sound track, and am so glad you are checking it out ! The one thing I would say is that the movie's plot is sometimes driven forward by the songs, so if you do want to see the movie without being spoiled on any twists and turns, for the reactions, I would stick to the first four songs bc they don't carry reveals with them. The first four are: The family madrigal (check), waiting on a miracle, Surface Pressure, and We Don't Talk about Bruno (check). I also see a lot of people suggesting Dos Oruguitas which is a phenomenal song, but the associated animation and conversation is to do with the culmination of some story lines.
I don't know if you really do Movie reactions, but this would be a really fun one if you decide to.
I love that he was able to pick up on the hint of jealousy for Isabella she shows. lol Also a nice little detail is missed in this song. When she goes knocking on the doors, she only does a light hip bump on Dolores' door because she has super hearing and a normal knock on a door so close would probably be too loud to her.

You should check out surface pressure next, it's my favorite song in the show. It's super deep, powerful, a bit gritty, and beautiful, while still managing to be upbeat
The singer for Abuela also played Abuela in In The Heights, Olga Merediz. I ADORE her, she's perfect and her voice is beyond amazing.

My father's side of the family is Madrigal. My mother says that she loves "her" last name. 😁
If you search the meaning of what a Madrigal means you will understand it is not just a normal last name. I remember years ago search who was the first Madrigal to come to America and it was a Portuguese General. I am not saying my family is decendents from that particular individual but I find it odd that some of my family members from my father's side are very white with blind hair and hazel eyes.
I remember dressing up like the lady singing for school activities to have dance activities. I remember having to dance with our huge skirts and twirling them around.

I'll just add my little bit here and agree with everyone else that "Surface Pressure" is my favorite, after that I would say "We Don't Talk About Bruno," and then "Dos Oruguitas." I would say with "Dos Oruguitas" you might also want to listen to the English version (Two Oruguitas) after the movie (in the credits and in the soundtrack it's track 10) to really get the full awe inspiring meaning of it...

As the kids turn 5 the miracle blessed them with a gift. Pepa Bruno and julieta received there gifts, weather control, future sight, and healing

Haha I used to be the same about coffee. Didn't touch the stuff until the last few years out of wanting an energy boost. There are some flavored coffees that aren't bad. Some mocha mixes taste more like hot cocoa than coffee and they have a ton of other flavors as well.

This movie is based on the literary genre called Magical Realism, which was pioneered by South American authors like Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Isabel Allende. Of course this focuses more on the magic, but, it's rooted on the realities of a family. It's brilliant, especially for the Latin culture....for example,, yes kids did drink coffee. My abuelas gave us coffee from a very young age. Lol

This movie is pure magic. The house is alive, the house was doing the treadmill thing for Luisa. Every child gets a gift at a certain age, Mirable being an exception or so they want you to believe. The gifts all seem to come with their own downfall. Luisa has to be strong even when she isn't. Isabella has to be perfect when she just wants to be herself. Bruno's power made him lose his family. Pepa always has a cloud over her head, she caused a hurricane on her wedding day. Dolores is super sensitive to loud noises, that's why she mostly whispers and she covers her ears in the movies a few times. Julietta doesn't complain about being able to heal everyone, and Camilo is enough of a goofball for his power to fit without burden.

That’s why coffee is for grownups is the classic Disney humor based on the movie setting which is COLOMBIA! And believe or not it is quite common for kids to drink a weak coffee in Colombia.
