As a kid I pretty much treated this like a plush toy which probably most likely the reason I broke off one of its arms, and named it Rexy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that is her official fan name.
Thanks so much for rejuvinating my passion for the JP Kenner toy lines. I had a lot of JP & LW toys in storage the last 20+ years. I owned the red rex as a 7yr old for a few weeks before it broke down and was returned. Got a working red rex last month and are hooked ever since. Thank you.
Glad you liked the video and that it got you into collecting the Kenner stuff. The red rex is an awesome figure to start with, still one of my favorites. Feel free to keep me updated on how your collection is going! Should have new videos soon, going to start TLW toys.
@@jurassicreviewschannel got a long way since 2 months ago. JPS1 is complete (apart from capture copter). S2, demon, utahraptor and electric bary. LWS1 almost complete, apart from two humans and bull-rex (underway). Hard to get some stuff in Europe. Daughter (3yrs) loves it too. That are still toys here. Greetings from the Netherlands. Looking forward to the new video's.
I hope, HOPE, Mattel will make like a special rubber line (like continuing the real feel line because they only made a mosasaurus) with a rubber tyrannosaurus rex!
I wish I never gave mine away a few years ago to extended family. Figured other kids could have fun with it. When I wanted it back, was sad to realize it was destroyed and thrown away
I remember wanting this toy so bad when I was a kid but I had to settle for the “Young” T-Rex instead. I even cut its rubbery mouth open to stuff other toys down it’s throat. I was a savage… I put Ellie in there too for equal representation
this toy looks more realistic than all the Jurassic World movies of 2020 LOL ... by the way i only have Jurassic Park original pieces ;) For me... JP and JW are 2 different worlds. i am a JP fan :). TY for the videos.
I just won an auction on eBay for this one for $90 AUD It’s physical condition looks near perfect, so many of them I’ve found at this price range have missing arms or battery covers, it did mention that it has the continuous roar issue though.
I have one of these but the roar is broken. The sound works but the jaw does not open and the plastic in the neck is not even attached to the base of the neck. But I still love the figure. Also Awesome review.
Man, my reasonings behind collecting are almost identical to yours. I wanted the red rex for Xmas 93 but got the young rex instead which was a disappointment at time. My friend got one though which made me super jealous. I did however get the bull T. rex for lost world so it mostly made up for it. Skip to adulthood, I have my own red rex finally! It’s almost a perfect specimen. The tail even has absolutely no creases of any kind which other collectors have remarked upon with some envy lol. My roar mechanism is broke however, stuck in the on position like you mentioned. Man, I had so many of these as a kid but I no longer have them. Just recently found a S1 young rex and Utah raptor at goodwill, both in amazing shape. I only paid $3 each. I also managed the score the much sought after demon which is a huge score. Anyways, just love listening to your vids, man. Thanks for the content!
Btw, I scored my red red on shopgoodwill for about $70ish. They had many more Dino’s at the time so apparently someone donated their collection. I still believe mine may be one of the better looking rexes I’ve yet to see
Thank you! And nice finds on the young rex and Utah raptor, ive had a few lucky finds like that at flea markets. I wish I would have had the Lost World Bull T-Rex growing up, but I was glad I at least had the Thrasher.
I absolutly loved my JP dinosaurs as a kid. Probably my most used toys together with my old Ps1. But i never knew i had the Young T-Rex untill a kid from the neighbourhood showed me his Red Rex. I couldnt believe my eyes 😂
@@Huda445x It’ll be tough getting your hands on a thrasher or red if that’s what your after, they both go for 100, sometimes more sometimes less. I recommend stalking ebay until you find the one your after
They used Stan Winston T-rex maquette because they didn’t have image for the Red Rex in time for back of the packaging artwork editing so they used the picture of the maquette instead 👌👌👌
Got it from my cousin for free, he didn’t let me have it at first but 9 years later he said the sound was broken and let me have it. The sound wasn’t broken, the batteries were just dead. I still have it today and he still doesn’t know.
Usually if the neck is broken the head will be hanging to either side and not facing forwards. Another sign is if you press the action button around the ribs and the head/mouth does not move at all.
I have 4 more figures in the series 2 line (Working on one right now) and then ill be moving onto the Lost World! I sort of get side tracked when newer stuff comes out, but I still plan on reviewing all of Kenner's dinosaurs. Also I could totally review the Thrash and Throw! I'll see if I can fit that one in here soon, I work a lot so sometimes these videos take me awhile.
@@novasedits4764 Ive been collecting for over 20 years now, so my collection has gotten quite large. As far as my duplicates, nowadays I only buy 1 or 2 of something at most. The Bulls, Thrashers, Red Rexes, etc were bought a long time ago, I honestly couldn't tell you what I was thinking back then. A lot of my stuff was purchased at flea markets, and sometimes it was just a matter of me not wanting to go home empty handed. Regardless, my days of mass duplicate buying are over lol.
@@jurassicreviewschannel Hey it just arrived, and I have to say it is the best figure I own. It's my first Rex. Well, that's kind of a lie, I have two Omegas that I can't open until my Birthday for $130 usd.
I recall being absolutely crushed as a kid when I got this. The red paint was just ridiculous, I was really hoping for something closer to what was on the back of the box. I still have mine and may just respray it at some point.
From what I've read from comments and other forums the color scheme is inspired by its description in the book. Its been a few years since ive read the book, might read it again here soon.
They used the Stan maquett on the box because the red Rex was actually molded from that maquett like they made a copy and used that to make the red Rex
Interesting I haven't read that before. According to JPtoys.com it was just a stand in until Kenner developed their own. That said I definitely see similarities between the two.
I have a few more series 2 dinosaurs to wrap up still but how about I make the The Lost World Bull T-Rex the first figure I review when I move on to The Lost World toy line? I usually do repaints in the same episode as the original figure so I'll cover the Omega during that same episode. Ill try to get done with the Series 2 stuff as quick as I can!
You are lucky to have red rex and the Hasbro showdown allosaurs I really want these two badly but they are going for reduclous prices hope when I will grow up I will find these two o sub your channel could you do a collection video aswell as the showdown allo plzzz
I personally believe that this version of the Rex is not Rexy and is in fact a male. The evidence: most of them time in male animals they usually have brighter colors then the females. He’s also never seen in the films. It’s ither Kenner created a new T.Rex or Kenner just didn’t pay attention.
The color scheme was inspired by how it's described in the book.
Interesting, its been a few years since I've read the book. I know Kenner used the books for inspiration for other figures (the young t-rex).
As a 14 year old, you all had some badass toys growing up.

in my top 3 of all toys of all time... with the original 1984 Marshmallow of Ghostbusters ... and the 1991 Ultimate Warrior WWF figure
OG kenner T-rex is awesome, a real flex piece, but the Thrasher T-rex is a masterpiece

Thank you, and yeah the neck breaking is pretty common with this figure.
I got mine for 50 and the electronics work fine and the plastic interior of the neck isn’t broken. And bent tail is mild.
You right about the explanation but they had the trike out before the rex was out so they had early large figures
Cool, figured the large Rex was last one out then. Assuming all the medium sized ones got released at the same time.
Red Rexs probably a close third for me. First is Bull and second is Thrasher. I adore it since it resembled the one from the novels.

The Red Rex is the best toy ever in my opinion! Even better than Bull T-Rex!
Yeah
Although I believe the thrasher and bull are better figures, this one will always be my favorite in my collection because of the memories
