Hello everyone, thank you for watching. If you like what I do, please support the channel by subscribing, 'pushing the bell' and liking the video - it helps a lot!
I'm in the middle the exact same campaign, except I'm doing the long version! 14 days in (out of 18 - thank you Escalation card......). 2 adjustments / realizations I made partway through my campaign: (1) I almost always give each pilot a fuel tank - I've found the -1 stress far outweighs the -1 ATA, especially with most pilots apparently having 0 cool. (2) Suppress suppress suppress! I started this game still in Corsair Leader mode, where suppressions always cost 2 stress. They cost 0 stress in IAFL...… Looking forward to the next episode!
Hi Joe, I must admit I was in 'Corsair' mode as well! I've never used suppression much but I'll certainly try your suggestions next time I play. Thanks for the comment. 👍
Another great video Rough. Looks like a very fun game. I think you're safe saying "him" - I'm fairly certain the Israelis had no female fighter pilots in 1956. 😉
That was really enjoyable and interesting to watch. You've done/doing several games that I've been tempted with, and a couple that I've not heard of before. Recently retired, I have time to play some games and I suspect your vid's are going to cost me some cash! Off to watch some more now.
I love these games. It puts you on the shoes of an air force Colonel or something. Did all campaigns back to back and it was a huge amount of fun. House ruled that if I could use two overlaping pilots as the highest veterancy pilots. Pretty awesome. You can play a scenario in 15 mins.
I love a DVG playthrough! This is a DVG game I haven't got. Might tempt me though. A completely different subject - I am currently enjoying Compass Games Combat!. Overpriced but a great solo game. It is such fun to play. One of the best solo games I have played that isn't from DVG!
Rough Swordsman Wargamer I am a weak man and relented! I watched Tony Holt’s excellent play through video series and I was hooked. Boardgameguru sell it for a reasonable £124!!!! Anyway, I like bread and water.
Hi Tony, not sure what 'extra' Skill counters you mean - the only ones I can see are those included with the game. If that's not what you mean, leave a time stamp in the reply and I'll get back to you. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
@@RoughSwordsmanWargamer Oh - my mistake, sorry. At 4:00, you have given some of your Pilots identical skills, for example Quick Hands and Agile are on more than one Aircraft. I had forgotten that in IAF Leader, you are provided with two of each Skill counter, whereas most Leader games have only one copy of each counter. I thought you havd constructed your own duplicate counters and thought what a good job you had done - but they are original game parts! My bad! :D
I play Phantom Leader which is very similar to this. Did they do away with marking the entry and exit areas and after bombs are dropped having to exit the target area and approach zones?
Hi dbd31463 - I could be wrong but I believe that it's only Phantom Leader which has entry and exit counters. In this (and Corsair Leader), pilots are removed once the Target is destroyed (or not!) during the Aircraft move phase. Thanks for the comment. 😀
@@Teufelhunde87 That makes sense for restricted flight paths, but, would 2 enemy fighters stop their pursuit of your planes after they dropped their bombs? Maybe so, I guess it depends on the doctrine they follow.
Just started this campaign and this Mission. Shot down the two bombers, but at a cost: Lost Terror to a Vampire (what is this some kind of horror movie?), and took extra stress hits on the way back to base.
@@RoughSwordsmanWargamer Yep, great game. Guess what I did wrong? I forgot to look at the little print that shows different Hit numbers for the 1940's and 1950's. So for Target #11, Tank Spearhead, I spent three Missions trying to get 9 Hits on it, when I only need 4. Obviously, I ended the Campaign "Dismal", hahaha.
Hi Aurelio - some of the targets have the "Objective" keyword and this signals you to put whatever sites or bandits it lists in the middle area. In order to destroy the target, you have to destroy those sites or bandits. Target card #44 for the AT-6s and card #47 for the Ansons. Hope that helps 🙂
Thanks for the video, very useful. I just can’t get past the bland board and usual DVG ‘quality’ art so saves me money 💰. I enjoy TAL despite the dodgy art because of the terrain map makes the mission much more thematic I’ll stick with that

Was about to reply in a similar fashion about suppression. I'll second the recommendation to use suppression every chance you get.
These Leader campaigns are such fun to watch. I'd be up for another... just saying.
I bought Corsair Leader because of your playthroughs.
Subscribed!
Thank you for subscribing! The Leader games I have are great fun! :-)

Hi Timothy, this is another favourite of mine - you're probably right but you can't be too careful nowadays! ;)
These motivated me to start videoing my Leader replays on VASSAL. I really want this game and B-17. On my list.
Thanks, Teufelhunde! The Air Leader games are great (B-17 is a brilliant beast of a game!)
Marvelous play-through, thanks for posting.
Thank you, sw 👍

Where did you get those lovely extra Skills counters from? They are really well made...

Phantom Leader does that to represent the restricted flight paths aircraft were forced to use in Vietnam. Its the only Leader series t use that.

If you sleeve all your cards, how do you store them?
They just all fit in the box!
Ciao, I have some ANSON and AT-6 counters.
Where and when they are used ?

Hi w92viking, thanks for the comment - TAL is my favourite because of the amount of different era aircraft. :)
It was a one in 81 chance for Horror to get four consecutive attacks...just sayin'.
