Getting back into gaming. Picked up my favorite AH Air Force, Dauntless and the expansion kit. Looking forward to playing again.

I really feel the pain of most of the naval games being minis-focused, glad to see there are a fair few counter-based Air Wargames. As always, you have a few titles I've never heard of😄 I'm actually due to get Wing Leader Victories for my birthday - 1st "proper" air combat I'll own (I do have DG's RAF but it's at squadron/operational scale, and classic Star Warriors cover space dogfights only)

I have played (a little) and looked at acquiring (a lot) the Wing Leader series, which takes a relatively novel approach to the tried-and-true WWII aerial combat with its side view (altitude focused) perspective. It does good job and eliminates plotting/pre-program moves (uses counters on a side chart to track key elements). Once you get it to the table, let me know what you think. Maybe I will need to reevaluate and finally purchase it. And, more importantly, hope you have a Happy Birthday!

@@KWHgames Thanks a lot😁 It's still actually 2 weeks away, but I'm hoping to get it to the table quickly. Virtual table is quite likely - I've added the game to my wishlist for the wife based on the recommendation from a friend who had a lot of praise for the game - he played most of the scenarios from various titles and praised them for showing the strenghts and weaknesses of different plane types. Despite early game feeling "on the rails" (with pre-planned missions) once forces are engaged game allows for a lot of interesting decisions.

I have played Air Force, B17 and RAF for hundreds of hours over a long long period of wargaming. Highly recommended, though after years of playing Air Force our group have changed aspects of the game with house rules, particularly the advantage rules and instant kills. B17, try crewing your aircraft with real people you know. KIA results make you think of the sacrifice of WW2 crews. Away from WW2 may I recommend Air Superiority and its expansions. Created by a military pilot it has a real sense of flying a combat plane rather than pushing counters in turning circles. Nothing quite like dropping chaff or using ECM as you try and outfly a very fast approaching missile.

The problem with your channel is it is starting to cost me big bucks. LOL Thank you for your reviews.

Is the original.RAF solo only? Asking as I own 2009 printing and this one has 3 games in it - so far I've only played "Lion" (RAF solo), but at some point I'm planning to give Luftwaffe solo / 2-player version a try...

The version shown (my copy) is the 1986 version and appears to be only solo (paying the British).

@@KWHgames I've heard a lot of good things about German solo in the new version (think Stuka Joe gave it a try), but I'm yet to try it myself. "Lion" feels very interesting, but it's quite easy to game the system due to limited number / focus of AI target cards and repel raids with catastrophic losses for the Germans

RAF original, you only play the RAF.
