Right? I wonder if he is paid by the government, if not they definitely should put some time and effort for them to get more knowledge and get compensated
I really enjoyed watching ur vlog.. but felt bad about this man who scammed you.. please be very careful wherever u go and be alert too take care always... Have a safe flight back home.. GOD BLESS!
Rico, the tricycle driver / tourist guide gave you such a good value for your money . He's also quite knowledgeable with quite accurate information about Manila & Philippines. He deserve a handsome tip
10/10 for Rico, he is such a nice tour guide. Hope every Pinoy tour guide in the Philippines is like Rico, he knows a lot and very accommodating and take extra care to some scammers, there’s a lot in Manila
I lived here near Manila but 1st time I'm impressed with Rico he's not an ordinary tricab driver. He knows basic history so well and you're so lucky to have his honesty and also the most cheap tour guide at your time . Hope he will be recognized by many... Good luck man and your tour. Thanks for visiting our place ! 👍 Tour Safe !
Very informative content. Welcome to the Philippines Gabi. Enjoy your stay. A friendly suggestion, do not hesitate to report to the authorities/police abusive individuals. Our government do not tolerate such activities. I'm a government employee and I hate seeing such scammers.
Mr. Gabi ! You found a very knowledgeable tour guide Mr . Rico it seems you are a proud Filipino to introduce our country to foreigners. Honest pinoy one of a kind tourist guide.👍🏼
Wow ang galing ni kuya Rico dami nya alam about our culture and history. Gabi u get the right person to tour u in Manila. Well knowledgeable si Kuya Rico and i proud of him. I will give him a Tip for the job well done and for loving his work heartedly.
Hi Gabi, I've watched your vlogs before. If you still plan to ride around Philippines, I would suggest roaming the island of Luzon first since some of the most scenic roads and landscapes are here. Mindanao is an underrated island with lots of hidden gems and indigenous culture. You might hear a lot of bad stuff about Mindanao but its generally safe. Visayas region is beautiful too with tons of surprises on different islands but you need to prepare mentally and physically for the long RoRo boat rides. Regarding food, Filipinos prefer more of home-cooking than streetfood. You're lucky if a Filipino family invites you to dine with them. Best of luck!
Hello Gab, good to see you exploring our country. I'm a Filipino from Davao City but im currently residing in Macau for more than 5 yrs and been travelling to different countries particularly Asia, my last travel just recently last Feb in Phuket and Bangkok I am happy that i found your vlog and really learned many things. Now seeing you exploring our country makes me more happy that you will experience and learnfrom our culture. But its a sad thing to know that you got scammed, well actually this is not new to us even us local people still a target for this shameful things thats one of the reason that me myself never explored Manila but by watching this video makes me want to. Manila is just our gateway going up north or flying abroad. Regarding about your plan buy a motorcycle is not the best thing to do coz yeah theres a lot of paperwork it will not took you just a week but more than a month luckily you didnt pursue.Just renting is the best way. Anyway try to visit CEBU is theres a lot of activities there i know you will enjoy. Also consider Mindanao specially Siargao its a backpackers haven for young people. Try also consider Baguio, Benguet & Sagada if you want high mountains, if you want beach mindanao has a lot to offer from mountain ranges to sea. Samal Island is one of few.. I am happy to tour you but unfortunately im not in philippines currently. Hope you enjoy your visit there..reagards to you and ploy! DAGHANG SALAMAT
This guy with the horse is why I almost never bother with local transport like this. It usually ends badly. Too annoying. I was in Manila in 2007 and it looks very different from when I was there . Much cleaner and upmarket . I guess 15 years is pretty long time. I should visit again .
Those horse driven “caretela” drivers lie and will say something lower price when they’re “selling” their ride but then they will show you the price on their card which is way too high than what their “come on” sell was. I am a Fil-American visitor being taken around by a local host and the same scam happened and we almost got into a fight but they were so many of these “drivers” that we were afraid of our lives. To tourists: don’t get sold with this horse-drawn carts. They are scammers!
My first time to the Philippines was in April 1986. My friend and I were walking along Roxas Blvd (exactly where you were) and we were told by the driver of the horse and buggy that the next block was very dangerous and he would give us a free ride to the “safe” zone (one block). After we got in, the driver kept going and was speeding up when we asked him to stop. It was only when we stood up to jump off that he finally stopped and demanded money. Some things never change…
You got it man! Your observation about Metro Manila is spot on! Every city of the metro has its own vibe & presentation. The swing from high class to low class, clean to filthy, ultra-developed to slums are evident once you tour around the metro. It even goes down to differences with the residents of each city. Few travel bloggers can fathom the diversity that you see & experience in Metro Manila. It's just mind-blowing and overwhelming, both in positive and negative ways
Really interesting Gabi. I was always curious about Manilla. It is so varied and the gap between rich and poor is huge. Thanks for sharing this with us. The first tour guide was so amazing and happy to share about his culture, and it is too bad you were scammed afterwards. I look forward to more of this series!
the most densely populated thing only applies to Manila city, which is just a tiny part of Metro Manila. It's almost like the old forgotten part (destroyed during WW2). Most of the commerce and business have moved further inland like Makati, Ortigas, and BGC. Those are the new "downtowns"
Can’t believe I only found your channel just now. Well seems like I got a lot of catching up watching all your vids. 2 down, more to go. And oh, I feel so sorry for being scammed in our country. Feeling so ashamed. Hope it didn’t ruin your entire stay. Keep it up Gabi! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It started so well with Rico. Very knowledgeable tour guide but ends very bad with the other guy wanted to imply with his little scam. I don't think Pinoy people are like that. They are very lovely and friendly people. I love Philippines and still looking forward to come back and enjoy my holiday
Hi Gabi, very nice video of Manila! I was in Manila end of February and it was pretty hot to I suffered visiting some of these places. Of course I did Intramuros and the beachfront but when I tried to go to Makato and BGC I was stuck in traffic. Enjoy your time in the Philippines. I would seriously recommend, if you go to Palawan, El Nido, book a trip with Tao Expedition!!! At least 5 days trip on a boat to some small Islands between El Nido and Coron. Don't miss that experience! For me it was the best in Philippines and I am still there in my thoughts. Have a save trip and enjoy!
Welcome to the Philippines, Gabi. I'm your follower from San Diego. I am a Filipino living in San Diego. I watched all your vlog. I'm sorry about your unfortunate experience with the "Karetela"(horse carriage). Be wary of scammers. There may be a handful of those at the Manila proper. Enjoy your trip. I'm sure you'll find pleasurable experience along the way. Goodluck to you, my friend.
Congratulations to you to heads Makati & Manila,The Philippines two months ago in 2023❤❤❤This is one of my favorite video that I really LOVE to watch in great joy & peace 2023❤❤❤
The actual price of the ride is 1,500, however he told you its 50 pesos to convince you to make a ride. Next time be familiar with different kinds and cost of transportation so you will not be scammed. Like the horse ride is not for transport to bring you to the hotel rather its for someone who would want to experience the kalesa ride and to see attractions around
Mr. Gabi: Welcomes to Manila & Makati cities, The Philippines this week in March of 2023.I really LOVE this great video so much in Southeast Asia.I am so delighted that you traveled to Chinatown, Manila, The Philippines in this remarkable video in March of 2023❤❤❤
Filipina here.. I lived in Makati for 10 years but never had the chance to have a pedicab historical tour in Intramuros .. I should do that when I get back …your tour guide kuya pedicab driver is well informed.. galing mo kuya rico!! 🎉
Hey Gabi, nice to see you again. I just discovered a few weeks ago the Casino areas in Manila. There are not so many videos on youtube about there but the places look amazing. I am talking about Okada Manila, City of Dreams, and Solaire. They have a shopping center beach clubs and a Casino area. If you have time and make a video there it will be very nice to watch. There is also SM Mall which is one of the biggest malls in the world. Thank you
The Reason Why the Vloggers is Not Showing The Casino Parts Of THE HOTEL is THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED To FILM Inside The Casino….. I VISITED THE Philippines in 2018 AS SOON AS I APPROACHED THE CASINO THE GUARD TELLS ME OH YOUR NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE A PICTURE INSIDE IN ANY FORM OF CAMERA DONT KNOW WHY , HERE IN THE USA THEY COULD CARE LESS…..✌️
wow congrats to kuya rico proud of him of what his work and i hope kuya rico must have more tourist to tour around his so knowledgeable with our history. where so proud of you kuya rico....God bless
Brother good to see you again and I was waiting for you to update on Phillipines as I was planning for Manila and Boracay in July. Safe journey Brother.
Thank you Gabi, I have put the Phillipines on my list, you're such a great guide & inspiration. I'm sorry you got scammed, but I'm also so touched by your compassion for the horse, you're a great human🕉🪷
That guy in the pedi-cab Mr. Rico was the true representation of the Filipino who cares for our culture. Just quite disappointed with that scammer horse guy, hope authorities can get you him for some good lesson. Anyways, hope you had a great time exploring 🌞 Watching from San Francisco CA 🇺🇲. Take care Gab 🇵🇭.
Why would a horse carriage only cost 50 pesos??????? My gosh! If you live in the Philippines for at least 14 days, you would know that something like a horse drawn carriage, which is only for tourism should cost a minimum of 500 pesoses. He probably thought he was experiencing something cultural, ha ha ha ha. He was expecting something cultural from the streets of Manila and it cost a dollar,
@@eduardochavacano He told Gabi he was going past his hotel anyway to make it sound like the reason for the cheap fare. Just like when the guys father told me in 1986 he’d give me a free ride because I was about to walk into some hoodlums…and then wouldn’t let me off.
THIS KALESA GUY ALWAYS TRY TO SCAM PEOPLES SPECIALLY YOU A FOREIGNERS, IT HAPPENED TO US RIGHT OUTSIDE MANILA ZOO,WE TRIED TO HELP HIM COZ HE SAID HE Didn’t HAVE A PASSENGER YET THE WHOLE DAY, SO I TOLD HIM TO TAKE US ACROSS THE STREET TO THE BOULEVARDS SO HE SAID 600 Pesos I SAID THATS FINE …. THEN WHEN I WAS TRYING TO PAY HIM HE SAID A THOUSANDS PESOS…. I WAS SHOCKED COZ I WAS GOING TO GIVE HIM A THOUSANDS PESOS ANYWAY FOR THE TIPS, TRYING TO HELP HIM OUT I TOLD HIM KUYA I WAS Going TO GIVE YOU MORE MONEY IF YOU JUST HONEST….. SO I GIVE THEM tHE THOUSANDS ANYWAY GOT SCAMMED NEVER AGAIN… THIS BEFORE PANDEMIC… ✌️
@@DraftedByTheMan Well, those horse drawn carriages are not cultural and they are expected to be overpriced because anything intended for the tourist are normally very expensive. But I get what you are saying, but tourist also need to understand that Manila is nothing like Bangkok or Khaosan Road, where cheap things can exist.
Hi Gabi. Great vlog. I spent 3 weeks in Manila before the pandemic. I had hotel in Makati and worked in BGC. I've met super nice people. Manila have different faces, can be beautiful but also very dangerous. In your video everything looks as I remember it, with the same vibe :) Have a safe trip 🙏
Hi Gabi so nice to see Manila. I went over 15 years ago for a friend’s wedding. It has changed so much. The wedding was in Boraci island so beautiful. Brings back such nice memories.
Hi just found your vog, I am impressed of your English diction/pronunciation, so clear and easy to digest ..your narration, research is well-thought out, I just subscribed. Enjoy your vacation to our beloved country, the Philippines. Welcome, sir! God bless
Good start in Manila bro🥰 And i'd like to give a shout out to your Intramuros guide, Rico, 'coz he's so knowledgeable about the Philippine history and everything about Intramuros. And he's fluent in English, that's a plus factor😊
Thanks you so much for this remarkable video that was released one year ago from Manila & Makati cities, The Philippines to shows these amazing places in great joy 2023❤❤❤❤
Mabuhay Gabi! Definitely recommend staying and hanging more around BGC in your next time in Metro Manila - which for anyone who hasn't been here is the new downtown area for Metro Manila. It comes alive from 5pm, but during the day its quiet and chilled. The area is fully developed and has places like the Mind Museum, American Cemetary, Venice Grand Central Mall, Bonifacio High Street (the main uptown lifestyle center for the entire metro), and Forbes Town (for chilled restaurants and evening hanging out). Another place you could see next time is the SM Mall Of Asia (MOA) complex called Bay City which a large new area in Manila Bay. That's where you'll see all us ordinary middle class Filipinos and other tourists if going by the Bay area. That part of the bay you went to is a bit sketchy to be honest, so I'm not surprised you were scammed by that calesa driver (we avoid taking calesas). At Bay City you can ride on the Manila Eye ferris wheel with lovely views of the entire metro, see the world's largest Ikea store, and the world's second largest dancing fountain at Okada. They do free shows between 6-10pm every day. The thing with Metro Manila is that there's a big divide - most tourists and expats hang out in the better areas of the metro like BGC and Bay City. Binondo is culturally rich, but its in the sketchy part of the city. Makati too is getting a bit dated now, since the center has shifted to BGC, and it shows in the dilapidated quality of the Makati sidewalks and sometimes sketchy characters who are there. If you're able to go to Baguio and the Cordillera highlands and see the 2,500 year old rice terraces on the UNESCO world heritage list (its 3-4 hour trip via bus on the expressway to Baguio, but a longer trip to see the rice terraces once you're in the pine-filled highlands) - or Batanes (the NZ of Southeast Asia), its highly highly recommended - its unique to this country :) Subbed!
This is so interesting and informative! I’ve been to Intramuros so many times but haven’t learned so much until now. Rico is an amazing tour guide and very knowledgeable! Really enjoyed watching this😊

Hi!! Very very nice. Please keep coming out with more vlogs!!
Hello
Great video Gabi.
As for scammers like him, I walk away without giving them anything. I've learned.
