He would have been a much better fit than Johnny Depp, that’s for sure.
Too bad, because I think they could have really pushed each other in some cool directions.
I don’t think Jeff played with too many other guitar players who played in such a similar sonic playground.

It's always an amazing experience when they surprise you with the note progressions. Just when you think you know where the solo is going (or even possibly the very next note), it takes a completely different turn, thus throwing you off.
The first big time I've experienced this was when I was younger and first heard TooL - Right In Two in the opening riff. Adam Jones has a 3 set piece of 3 notes for the main riff; the first set ends on a high note, the second with a low note, and I originally expected the 3rd set to end on an even lower note, but he brings it back up to a higher note which completely through me off course and I immediately loved the song!

It definitely isn't easy to play like him. Its his memory that is funominal. Just look at how many songs this man has in his catalog. Some songs are easier than others. But, to be able to do every technique he uses is very hard. Those trills he does are so fast and when he jumps around the fetboard at light speed doing them is off the charts. Tony Fuentes, is about the only person besides Jay Parmar that even comes close. Tony, is the 80's George, while Jay is the 90's George. KXM, and Michael Sweet George, is even newer. Not to mention the all solo record stuff. I bet Damian Salazar, could pull it off but, he won't sound like George, because he has to put in all kinds of different notes that George doesn't do. But, it will sound awesome!

Arguably the greatest improvised solo Lynch has ever produced. In this solo, he constantly pushes the limit of taking this solo into the "WTF" category -- but he never breaches it. In some improvised solos, sometimes Lynch takes it too far and it sounds trash... but this is just the peak of awesome. It is right on the line of pure epic-ness... staring into the abyss of taking it too far. But he never falls in. Just incredible stuff.

I was listening to beast from the east yesterday and "You just got lucky" he is blazing all over that and must have been at the zenith of his chops right around that time, no jazz notes, pure chop suee madness. George's signature lead lines stem from a scale (can't remember which scale/mode) where he takes one note in the scale and flattens it, takes another note in the scale and sharps it, and blasts through that altered scale like it always existed before him. Beyond that, he himself has said he's just a 70's blues guitar guy who had to adapt when 80's glam metal took off.

Even the way he ditches that ring on his right hand toward the end is cool.

This is after the 80's George, you can tell because he finally found that front pickup sound that's so cool. Gives him a whole new dimension and texture. He never used it much in the first decade of his Dokken years. Great sound.

@@spacejockey4746 he may have said he did but I've been playing and learning his stuff since the early 80's, he really didn't use it much.

Yep. I started learning guitar in the 80s when I was a pre-teenager. When I first heard Dokken's, "Alone Again," I immediately loved it and wanted to learn George's stuff. I knew, I wanted to be play like George. Lol. 30 years later, I still listen Dokken once in awhile.
