I remember the first time I heard Blind Guardian.. I was in high school and the only thing my friend told me before I listen to this song was that they (the band) got inspired by JRR Tolkien's "The Silmarillion". And I loved it!
#painintheask Nice, Iced Earth now Blind Guardian. The next step is Demons and Wizards, that’s band members from Both bands to form one hell of a super band. DEMONS and WIZARDS The Fiddler on the Green is one of their best songs!!!
You guys my brother was absolutely THRILLED about y'all even saying his name on the video let alone react to his favorite song he asked me to thank you both so so much he was super super happy! Thank ya'll both !
Yeah, Blind Guardian, the kings of sweet transitions(you heard in this song), kings of the crowd (you can hear and see in the songs The Bards Song and Valhalla both best on the imaginations from the looking glas-DVD), also the most influencial Speed and Power-Metall Bands AND one of the best Prog-Metallers (And then there was silence, wheel of time, children of the smith.....) this germans, on the scene since 1984, really know how to do your minds ^^
In the studio Blind Guardian is kinda like Iron Maiden + Queen...metal like Maiden, but with all the layerings of voice & guitar like what Queen did. Live in concert, Blind Guardian can't replicate that nor do they try. They go for straight ahead metal a-la Maiden, and are fantastic. Every bit as good as Iron Maiden live, and yes, I've seen Iron Maiden several times during their heyday of the '80s.
I seen them in New York at a small venue and it was amazing I couldn't imagine how wonderful it would be to see them in a huge venue imagination through the looking glass has to be my all time favorite live show what a atmosphere they bring to the stage
I love it when the band members sing the background vocals and how its mixed in with the Live audience. Mirror Mirror is one of the best live performances I have ever heard
and i listen them from the start till now...^^ i`ve got all the old lp`s and listen them after work makes you feel again like you have all the power of the world... ^^
You are rigth. There were other german speaking middle age rock bands like Subway to sally, In Extremo, Schandmaul and the goth band Asp wich had albums who were very close in my book - but in Power Metal thery are very unique, only the last Maiden Album comes close, but for me Iron Maiden were just good compered to Guardian. Die Ärzte, german punk band, and Apocalyptica had were always in the same region...and Power Wolf are also in that region...
Blind Guardian are up there with Iron Maiden as best live band, in my opinion. Maybe not in terms of stage show but crowd participation is second to none. Incredible band.
They are from Germany. They started in the mid/late 1980s. But Rich is right, they do have a strong Irish/Celtic influence in a lot of their music. It fits the fantasy lyrics. A lot of their songs are about Lord of Rings (long before the movies came out).
#MetalChickPick Blind Guardian - Into the Storm - they are German and the singer is Hansi Kürsch who also sang on the day that the world breaks down :-)
Wow, Iced Earth then Blind Guardian in the DNA series in one night. This is amazing :) Blind Guardian is a 2 guitar band and they are very keen on harmonizing solos and exchanging leads mid riffs or mid solos. This is definitely the type of band to watch live at Wacken, they are German as well. One specific song #painintheask to watch live is The Bard Song. It will surely get requested a lot.
Oli Corrivo I’m pushing 50 and I have been into all of these bands for years.I never pushed music on my son.I always wondered what kind of shit he would end up listening to or if he would even be interested in music at all.Words can’t describe how happy I was the first time I heard Maiden’s Hallowed be thy name playing on repeat in the bathroom while he was taking a shower one day. From Maiden he started self discovering Blind Guardian,Iced Earth,Avantasia,Aeryon,Queensryche,GHOULTOWN,Bruce’s solo albums, etc. These are all bands that I love so I guess it’s true.It must be in the DNA..lol
This song is from Nightfall in Middle Earth, which is a concept album telling (roughly) the story of The War of the Jewels in the Silmarillion, which is Tolkien's history of the world before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. This song is about Ulmo (the "god" of water") appearing before Turgon, the High King of the Noldor (Elves), and leading/guiding him to the hidden location where the secret city of Gondolin would be built as a refuge to protect his people from Morgoth (the master of Sauron). Before this, they lived at Vinyamar, which was a coastal city, vulnerable to attack by the dark lord.
You should to react to The Bard's song - live in Wacken, you'll see a really crazy crowd! Btw my #painintheask is Sonata Arctica - White Pearl Black Ocean (live in Kemi). A truly amazing song! \m/ Love your reactions.
#painintheask Blind guardian - Nightfall or The curse of feanor, in addition to what's been requested already. One of my favorite bands along with Maiden!
Now you need to check out Demons & Wizards, a brilliant side-project band between the songwriter/guitarist of Iced Earth (Jon Schaffer) and the vocalist of Blind Guardian (Hansi Kursch). I'd recommend listening to The Gunslinger \m/ #painintheask
Oooooo Blind Guardian!! Curse My Name and Wheel of Time are fantastic too! Rhapsody/Rhapsody of Fire is an Italian band you guys should check out too! Blind Guardian is German ;)

Back in the 90es Blind Guardian was kind of the entry drug to metal in Europe, Asia and the US. A lot of their songs are influenced by the works of Tolkien, Mirror Mirror aswell. By the way, they're from germany and their sound isn't really traditional. I love the rapid changes of Kel's expressions during the songs!
I'm so glad you decided to react to Blind Guardian. They're among the bands that influence power metal in other future bands. I suggest reacting to" Time stands still at the iron hill" live.
Some of the greatest epic metal music inspired by some of the greatest literature in the Western canon: namely, Tolkien's "The Silmarillion." I've seen BG live 5 times and this year I fulfilled another dream and saw Demons & Wizards.
Thx for doing this! Blind Guardian is one of the all time greats, been around since 1984 and are one of the main inventors of european power metal. They also have lots of thrash and speed metal influences. Please do Valhalla (live) next #painintheask

Yeah, "give me an axe" is an appropriate reaction to one of jewels in power metal crown. If you like that kind of metal, go and react to Dragonforce or Demons and Wizards or Hammerfall or more Blind Guardian and Sabaton (its not medieval, magic and swords themed but still). Cheers from Poland.

I agree wholeheartedly. I saw Iron Maiden in '82, '83, & '85, and I've seen Blind Guardian 4 times. BG is every bit as good as IM.

Kel would love the whole Night at the Opera album from Blind Guardian, if she loved this song so much.
Lyrics:
Far, far beyond the island
We dwelt in shades of twilight
Through dread and weary days
Through grief and endless pain
It lies unknown
The land of mine
A hidden gate
To save us from the shadow fall
The lord of water spoke
In the silence words of wisdom
I've seen the end of all
Be aware the storm gets closer
Mirror, mirror on the wall
True hope lies beyond the coast
You're a damned kind, can't you see
That the winds will change?
Mirror, mirror on the wall
True hope lies beyond the coast
You're a damned kind, can't you see
That tomorrow bears insanity?
Gone's the wisdom of a thousand years
A world in fire, in chains and fear
Leads me to a place so far
Deep down it lies my secret vision
I'll better keep it safe
Shall I leave my friends alone
Hidden in my twilight hall
I know the world is lost in fire
Sure there is no way to turn it
Back to the old days
Of bliss and cheerful laughter
We're lost in barren lands
Caught in the running flames
Alone
How shall we leave the lost road?
Time's getting short so follow me
A leader's task so clearly
To find a path out of the dark
Mirror, mirror on the wall
True hope lies beyond the coast
You're a damned kind, can't you see
That the winds will change?
Mirror, mirror on the wall
True hope lies beyond the coast
You're a damned kind, can't you see
That the winds will change?
Even though
The storm calmed down
The bitter end
Is just a matter of time
Shall we dare the dragon?
Merciless he's poisoning our hearts
Our hearts
How shall we leave the lost road?
Time's getting short so follow me
A leader's task so clearly
To find a path out of the dark
Mirror, mirror on the wall
True hope lies beyond the coast
You're a damned kind, can't you see
That the winds will change?
Mirror, mirror on the wall
True hope lies beyond the coast
You're a damned kind, can't you see
That the winds will change?
