When dealing with loops and one shots especially you dont need all of them to be stereo, that causes aditional phase issues. For example if you want to pan a hi hat a bit more to one side or all the way, in my experience having a mono sample/loop creates more space in the mix for the wider sounds, creates contrast so wider sounds seem even wider, and fixes many phase issues in your mix if you alligned them correctly :)

Using a mono melody in a stereo mix?? Interesting

Sorry to say so, but this tutorial hardly serves any purpose. I can imagine no scenario where you would apply an audio tool on a single track to repair phase issues. You basically have in real world scenarios two sources of mistakes:
    a) you got a stereo file which has phase issues - in this case it is much more convenient to split it in two files: L-channel and R-channel and treat them differently. The results outrank any sound tool.
    b) you try to record the same source with two or more mics. If you haven't already pinned it to disk or band, rearrange your mics, to get rid of phase issues. If you already nailed it an a recording medium, a) applies.
In doubt: drag an object that is in doubt of producing the phase issues left or right (in samples or yet better frames). It will help you much more.

Any reason why you just didn’t use ozone imager to fix the phasing issues?

So if you put a phasemistress on each track, does that guarantee no phasing issues at all on the overall master?

cool vid but the link you provided for the imager takes you to the homepage and you need to download izotope product portal anyways so good job getting those affiliate clicks i guess?

I have a song where the the vocal gets thin and distorted when the mix is monoed, would this plug in be useful and where in my chain would you suggest using it?

I would suggest slapping your vocals in mono and using a plug in like, Izotope doubler to widen it. You can also use Wider by Polyverse.
If you have it make use of Fabfilter pro-Q3 and remove side information in your lows.

Easily the most misleading tutorial I've seen on YT. Worse than nothing.

Would've been nice to have included an alternative to the plugin, this sounds more like if you want to fix phase issues you have to buy this,
and that's not true...there are ways to do this without...

    Great video and explanation.
Though i still have some trouble with a simple piano from Keyscape. (the first grand piano preset)
The correlation meter is right above zero but anytime i mix it down to mono, the piano may not lose important information but still sounds pretty bad.
So if phase is not my issue, what is?

It may inherently be a piano with a lot of stereo separation? Maybe it has some reverbs and delays that are very wide and are getting lost when you put it in mono, leaving you with a muddy signal, since pianos can tend to have a lot of low mids depending on where you play them. You could try an EQ that has Mid/side processing, and fix some resonances in the mid (or more centered) signal while boosting the high end of the mid to get some of the sound you've lost. I'm still a beginner with this stuff, but it might be worth trying! Ableton's EQ Eight has a button that you can press to enable M/S for anyone wondering, which lets you affect the mono and stereo signals separately (might be using the wrong lingo here, apologies to any mixing engineers reading this!)

      Hey,
It's been 2 years since you posted this so I'm sure you have probably resolved this already although this is also for other readers. Duplicate your piano and SPLIT the stereo signal, one to be "left" and the other to be "right". In ableton I use the utility plugin for this but if you use a different DAW you will need to find the equivalent. As ohShootKid said use you can also use the EQ M/S function to remove anything that may also be causing the phasing issues.
