You're damn lucky then, because when birds run into windows/walls like that, the reason why they end up dying is either a concussion, or they break their necks. So he might not be joking about that. I've had it happen to one of my parakeets before. Very sad way to go.
VI Sice I've heard it happen with birds a bit bigger than budgies, but it seems like they never get going fast enough or with enough.. force? in confined spaces to really hurt themselves. might just be because my birds never had their wings grown out for very long so they never got very good at flying, they were always super clumsy with it.
Yeah it does also depend on how fast they're going, my parakeet I mentioned before had been flying around the room and we were trying to catch her, and she ended up slamming into the window. Died instantly it was awful.
