You can get up to 6 couplers around the original habitat. As others have said here, you can then extend and extended coupler even further before converting one to a platform. The other unconverted couplers can be used to hold batteries or solar panels or anything else for that matter.
I have a Tipp for expanding your base. If you expand onces then you can Invest 2 resin to build a big platform but what you want to do is use the little pipe thing at the front to expand even more so this way you basically get a nother Habitat platform where you can Branche of again. I made the same mistake and could not carry one expanding my Base. and if you want to go to a nother planet you can just use the pipe on your space Shuttle to expand :)

To expand from your ground module you simply have to clic the circle in front of it. Your vehicule can get energy aswell as yourself if you connect to that part. Your caractere can connect to vehicule in the wild and on the base
If u make a new node thingy for your base, u can turn that node into another node instead of turning it into a station, also by placing all your solar panels on your base u can allow energy transfer through tethers, the building with energy do not share, but when the sun is out enegry that is generated will, this enegry will be transfered to empty or non full station batteries as well your own aslong as your close to a tether
Paul you can make your base as big as you want. When you expand it by putting 1 resin on it it will give u an option to put 2 resin to make it a building, u can expand foundations but can't expand on buildings so when it gives you the option to put 2 resin, don't just expand off that one

you can make a truck and connect some rovers to the back and add the giant storages with the vehicle bay and connect them to the truck like a giant road train(be careful though the trucks tend to be glitchy and fly around like possessed maniac and drive by itself!)

Could you try getting the pod out of the ground? If you get it out you can push it back to your base. I've got one out and I've also found a research container next to it in the ground I used the terrain shaper to dig it out.

You need a cart to attach to the back of your rover, I think you can make another rover and use that as a cart. Driving it will be troublesome though...
Is it possible to destroy the things you build from the original habitat? Because if you make new connection thing but only give it one rasin and none after the next phase you can make 3 more connection things(is that right grammar?)

you can get more than 5 pads, but you have to expand the extensions before upgrading them.
You can make a couple trucks & link them.
