Saw the movie last night. It was such a beautiful piece! Howard Shore's score is just epic. Everything about this movie was perfect. Just like the book, this movie is also a lot more lighthearted. The dwarves are pretty funny, especially in the Rivendell scenes.

Dale looks phenomenal, like a vacation destination. Also I'm glad more of the bitternes of dwarven history and their recent diaspora appears to come to the fore than did in the book, where it is mostly a treasure hunt. This does make it more layered and interesting from a sociological perspective.
So can't wait. Some reviews say the film is too long but its an epic fantasy, and if your a true fan like me you won't mind the runtime. Roll on Friday!!!!

I just ordered the book so that I can read it again before seeing the movie. I never read the indices and Tolkien's notes, so I'm eager to read those. When I read it the first time, I was enthralled with the adventure. Now I'll read it with an adult's eye, and enjoy it even more. I don't care about the cgi, and I think the film will be fully entertaining. Which is all you can ask of a movie.
