When Barabas is relating stories of the past to Victoria and Carolyn...it is perhaps the best scene Jonathan Frid ever did on DS...the emotion and imagery he brings to his performance is absolutely superb!!!
he absolutely was. I've never known anyone so kind and modest. Although some fans were disappointed to find out that the "scary vampire" was so nice in real life :P
Barnabas is the coolest character of all time in TV. I would think it strange that this new cousin whom I barely spoke to went into a long unprompted gruesome and detailed story about a woman dying. Although Carolyn is a wimp to get all scared about it. I love to hear Barnabas talk; he'd be the toast of the barroom. You'd assume he'd be calm and quiet with his demeanour but he loves to chat and he always has something fascinating to say and with such eloquence.
just because Maggie is slowly turning into a vampire doesn't mean she has to be so damn Rude to everybody !.... especially Joe,who anyone can see really loves her.. felt really bad for him, getting kicked around so much.. no wonder he likes the blue whale so much..drowning his sorrows poor guy... :>(
Barnabas is so powerful and scary in these 1967 episodes. I wonder if he is manipulating the storm? Imagine if Angelique had come back at this point- she'd have been toast.
traditional vampires of the category Barney seems to be in CAN call up storms, rain and fog. They can also turn into mist. How I wish the writers had adhered more to traditional lore, there would have been so much potential for very original, fascinating stories.
The final scene of this episode that "wound up on the cutting room floor"Barnabas: "Willie! Don't make me come find you!"Willie: "No, Barnabas! Please, I'm coming!"
Alexander Moltke was born in Sweden and is the daughter of a Swedish count. Her only film credit I believe is DS. She got pregnant, left the show and just left the screen. She had no acting experience before DS.
Poor Willie can‘t catch a break :( Jason meddling and getting involved in Willies business makes Barnabas Kind of aware of Jason.. Can‘t wait to see wäre it goes
hi Crystal...right you are...Barnabas may not have to think about electricity to keep warm, considering that he's the undead, no worries for him ...but Willie, being not quite the undead yet, would surely freeze his b***s off living in the old house with only a fireplace here and there for heat... no juice for cooking or hot water for cleaning... anything??!!??....he has to cook everything to eat over the fire?!?...what about bathing?!?....Gee.. how would anybody stand to even be near him after awhile.??!!.... wouldn't you think he'd be getting a little ripe after a bit???... :>D. Barnabas too.. :>D
I liked Vicky. Throughout the show she seemed strong and calm most of the time, even in the most dangerous of situations. when I was a teenager I wanted to be like her. I was sad when they took her off the show.
Of course she was bloodless. You had just finished drinking it all! 🍷Buy a crucifix Vicky! Jason said fifteen minutes without electricity was the end of the world. Yeah, you should see people now when the power goes out. "What will I do without the internet? Aaaaagggghh!" At least now Jason is on Barnabas' radar. Hopefully this spells the beginning of the end for him.
Rhetorical Qs for Vicky: How is it possible that Barney knew that you were with Maggie Evans?? Sam couldn't have told Barney because he thought that Joe was with her, he also didn't know that Joe called Vicky because Maggie broke up with Joe. The other stupid rhetorical Qs is Barney is the only guy in town wearing this Inverness style coat which is clearly silhouetted both at Maggie Evans French door entrance then again at Jeremiah Collins Mansion. Why doesn't anyone connect the dots?? Barney is probabaly wondering the same thing. Although what he does is so creepy, he just appears and doesn't respond right away when Vicki and Carolyne are shrieking in fear. I agree with all the posters. Barnabas is extraordinarily powerful and angry. which is reflected in intensity of the storm.
I have been binge watching from episode 1 until now. At first I thought Vicki was being helpful, but now she is becoming a tattletale. Always inadvertently telling everyone’s business.
This message is for Mike Hruska: Just for the record Im NOT angry or even enraged. I'm sorry I came off strong. It wasn't intended to say all that blather. I'm even more curious to know why everyone is so intent on outing JF. I mean really so what if he was or wasn't or whatever. Maybe he wanted stay mysterious. Maybe he wanted to say somehing people wanted to hear. David Bowie said this also and it did wonders for his career. Was DB really gay --no. But it got him much attention and noteriaty after the Stonewall riots of 1969. Not to mention skyrocketting record sales. Instead I think we should celebrate JF's life as the great actor he really was. I think it would be worth eveyone's while to listen to an audio clip recently uploaded by JFs nephew David Howitt who released an interview on the Dick Cavette show around '68-'69 and Cavette requested JF do his fave soliloquy from one of his roles from Shakespeare's plays, I think it was from Richard The 1st. OMG. When you listen to JF deliver this soliloquy I promise you that nothing about his personal life will ever matter to you or anyone ever ever again. just listening to him is riveting. he was a master. a tour de force. I wished I could have seen him in his heyday on a stage in NYC --watching him must have been a real experience. As for the posting to you the other night again, again Im sorry but as an artist all my life I have had to deal with the crazy talk of: you're an artist therefore you do drugs you're into open relationships you're bi-sexual trisexual and also gay -- all at once--on the contrary I'm the most boring person on this end. but never received any attention about my work as a painter or that i love writing or have any talent or that I have a brain. You get what im saying don't you. All I know is that I have struggled to get work done and get included in group shows and get recognition as an painter. I need to work very hard even with a day job. I'm sure you understand my frustration. To work so hard as an artist and all anyone cares about is who Im in the sack with is demoralizing. Its no one's biz even if I only wake with myself. Thank you for understanding.
After the fantastic performances from Maggie and Sam Evans in the previous run of episodes we're brought back to earth with Carolyn, Jason, and Vicky whose work tends towards the workmanlike. Jonathan Frid carried this episode.
+Mark Hruska SO WERE TWO OF THE HEROES OF OF FLIGHT 93,AND THE ENTIRE CAST OF BEWITCHED EXCEPT FOR ELIZABETH MONTGOMERY,AND TABITHA.HEROES AND ENTERTAINERS SO WHAT!
Vicky's catch phrase is 'l don't know'!
Or “I don’t understand!” 😂
When Barabas is relating stories of the past to Victoria and Carolyn...it is perhaps the best scene Jonathan Frid ever did on DS...the emotion and imagery he brings to his performance is absolutely superb!!!
Jonathan Frid. Such a great episode. 50 years later, this show is the best!!
Johnathan Frid is captivating in this episode !!!! Bet he was a very caring compassionate person. Would have been a privilege to know him.
he absolutely was. I've never known anyone so kind and modest. Although some fans were disappointed to find out that the "scary vampire" was so nice in real life :P
Barnabas sure could tell a story!
Yes, he's amazing- melancholy and compelling.

+soundvisionary13 I would agree, and your description was very elegantly put I might add.
Barnabas is way cool and fascinating!
'probably just my imagination'.
probably heard this line more than any other!

I see what you mean- she knew that he'd try and destroy her in 1967- he was that powerful and angry!
traditional vampires of the category Barney seems to be in CAN call up storms, rain and fog. They can also turn into mist. How I wish the writers had adhered more to traditional lore, there would have been so much potential for very original, fascinating stories.

This is one of the finer scenes..well written and acted.
Jason turns his fake Irish accent on and off like a light switch.
+2late4me2care
i thought it was real
Barnabas is the "Eddie Haskell" of soap operas...so polite, yet so devious.
Alexander Moltke was born in Sweden and is the daughter of a Swedish count. Her only film credit I believe is DS. She got pregnant, left the show and just left the screen. She had no acting experience before DS.
Did Victoria just figured out all by herself that Barnabas story was a real one? Wow kudos 😂👌😂
Poor Willie can‘t catch a break :( Jason meddling and getting involved in Willies business makes Barnabas Kind of aware of Jason.. Can‘t wait to see wäre it goes
I find it strange that Collinsport never gets snow being that it's in Maine. However, I understand this type of show.
+Frankie Flannery Awww thanks Frankie 😊

The actress Alexandra went off to have a baby and chose not to return to the show
Me too. Vicki is so caring and genuine. She was the heart of DS in a way.
***** Yes, same here on both counts Steve.
Such an excellent delivery of the story by Jonathan Frid! Was he talking about Josette?
Nice soliloquy. Right out of a Gothic romance.
Yes, he was.
This makes great Halloween viewing. The episode ending shows how Dark Shadows was not intended for kids. Genuinely horrible.
Barnabas would have made a good Vulcan or Romulan on Star Trek which aired at the same time in late '60's.

I thought by now that everyone realized Victoria is an idiot
I have been binge watching from episode 1 until now. At first I thought Vicki was being helpful, but now she is becoming a tattletale. Always inadvertently telling everyone’s business.
💯
Vicki's scream makes me laugh lol 😂

Typical dude, when Barnabas is removing his coat his eyes slide right over to Carolyn's chest , lol
prove it
why would a man prefer another man? i don't get it.
i checked it out found nothing on him being gay
wow
+Mark Hruska SO WERE TWO OF THE HEROES OF

Very tiresome that barnabas monologue 🥱😴
