The movie was great. Only reason it didnt do so well was because of the fact it was animated. Besides that dialogue story, plot was some of the best ive seen in a fantasy film.
The major reason it didn't fare so well is because it doesn't follow the original poem word by word. But ignoring the poem, this movie in itself is an animated masterpiece.
@@SuperAxon2It didn't have too beacuse all the rewrites made it better. There is no way Wiglaf fell for Grendel's mother's old tricks. He was too disciplined of a warrior, talking about abstinence prior to battle being essential, and how a warrior's mind must be unblurred.
It's clear to see Wiglaf definitely fell for the seduction. The implications of him being waist high in water (waste deep in trouble the saying goes) in addition to stepping forward. He did not have a face of disagreement but rather a face of uncontrolled worry and lust. One again the vicious cycle continues oh how so sad
+Perma Cut has the director confirmed this? I agree i always looked at his expressions as him giving in to the demons seductions. But i also liked thinking wiglaf finally killed the bitch lol. Is there any confirmation of this?
It was no trick. I think Grendle mother just want peace, but her offspring has this defects that go on a rampage. She smile at the end because there is finally peace.
😁I don't know, the facial expressions at the end told me something different.. She enjoyed being a mother and loved her children despite their homicidal and destructive capabilities...if she truly wanted it to stop she would have let it stop when Beowulf killed Grendel...yet she tempted Beowulf to give her another child and I think she's going to do the same thing with Wiglaf... At first wiglaf expressions were angry towards her then they begin to slightly soften after he realized how beautiful/sexy she was and her smile told me "yeahhh I'm going to seduce you to give me another child too just like the others"...the movie was stopped "open-ended" so we really don't know what happened after this...lol
@@condorX2 anything is possible... There are plenty of men that take vows to abstain against sex so you never know, but I think he was just disciplined enough to keep his mind off women when more important things were going on...
Beowulf had a son which was a fucking DRAGON. Meanwhile Grendel came out like an 3rd gen inbred, it show’s how powerful beowulf was even though he was mortal.
@Ameretat010 I think you’re overlooking into it, the ending of Beowulf being kissed by Grendel’s mother was really a dramatic irony that no one can ever truly escape their past, also showing that the “woman” is the only monster he couldn’t kill.
@Ameretat010 If you remember Beowulf telling about his sea monster story, it goes to a bit of foreshadowing on how he “lost” the race mixed with lies and embellished truths. He said he lost because a “monster” siezed him by their jaws but it was a mermaid woman that was looking to fuck. This highlights Beowulf’s weakness which is lust. The ending of Beowulf getting kissed by Grendel’s mother in death signifies that.
Dude, that's what he was supposed to do under Viking tradition. The women were supposed to leave and only the warriors were supposed to accompany him on the final journey. Everyone's trashing his wife and girlfriend for leaving, not realising that's what they were required to do in their cultlure
I think it's also worth noting at the end because of the way the screen fades. His skin turns gold. Either signifying shes won him over or resembling a future golden skinned son, or both.
It’s left up to the viewer to decide if Wiglaf fell for Grendel’s Mother like Hrothgar and Beowulf. I mean the way Wiglaf enters the water and the color changing to gold at the end could mean that he fell for it. Also, Wiglaf sees what affects Beowulf and Hrothgar have from being seduced by Grendel’s Mother, so this could mean that Wiglaf did not fall for it. Well who knows?
Yes I thought the ending was quite ambiguous. Everytime I see that scene, I can't help but wonder, is Wiegluf about to make the same mistake that Beowulf did all those years ago?
@@Negus1k I don't think he did, he saw what she had caused for Hrothgar and more importantly Beowulf. Wiglaf wouldn't want Beowulfs death to mean nothing in my opinion
They would've ruled the most powerful kingdom, with a golden heritage in line and so forth. Imagine their Dragon-man race in abundance once more, hell magic would probably become common again seeing as to how easily Grendel's mother used it in the cave.

Hey, thanks for this!! My disk started skipping out near the end and I was wondering what had happened. My dad said I should watch this movie and undoubtedly became one of my favorites! Beowulf will be remembered in legend! Though i do want to try out that good mead i heard so much about😂
I choose to believe he offers her back the horn, and she draws close to suduce him further. Once shes close enough, he drops the horn and chokes her. He drags her ashore and chokes her in vengeance. She flails and shifts and screams, but he feels nothing for her, and she is powerless.
Firstly, dude, read the original poem FFS; he says no and walks off. Secondly, she's a fucking supernatural being, 'powerless' my white hairy arse, she would simply turn him to dust with a wave of her hand. Thirdly, way to snitch on yourself for having sadistic fantasies about violently killing women, the Yt algorithms mean you're almost certainly now on a FBI watchlist. Imagine snitching on yourself this obviously and this publicly 🤣🤣🤣 Epic fail.
jameljones418, as this was based on what we have of the source material, the Beowulf text that's managed to survive, there's nothing more here. I'd love to see a similar treatment of other myths but this is it for the Beowulf story, as we know it, and I'm glad that it ends here (the license that was taken with the story was handled superbly and does fill the gaps well).
I think it continues past Beowulf's death. Does anyone else remember the very last scene on Wiglaf's where it shows a close up of his face and then the color changes to a golden hue? Like he got pulled in by the seduction at the last second? Plus he was all alone, which is how the first 2 kings fell to the temptation too...

I loved this film, which is great fun, but it is a very long way from the poem. It would be wonderful if a film maker (Peter Jackson?) could make a film that stays true to the poem, which is, after all, written by a master story teller, and is a much, much better story than Zemeckis' bizarre variation on it. Beowulf was buried in a mound, which leaves the tantalising possibility that his remains are yet to be found.
I just watched this movie earlier around lunch time for the first time ever and yeah I freaking loved it. The only thing I did not like was the fact that Beowulf had died and the demon had lived, the main character is not supposed to die in these movies. So why do they kill Bill wolf off. The demon should have died and Beowulf should have lived point blank. So my question is this, are they going to do a sequel to this movie or are they going to leave things the way they ended it.
I know this was a long time ago but if you still want your answer the story of Beowulf is a epic epics are tales about heros dying from an uncontrolled tragedy Beuwulf dying is what makes the stories good because even tho he has unusual power he is still human and can die like the rest of us it adds weight to the story
