I like this method, it breaks all the rules and saves all the time. Looks like you can get a bunch done in half a day. What do you normally expect to get for a queen take percentage on the checkbacks? Royal suppository 👍👍
I’m pleased. I found a few weaker ones later in the day. Out of 282 splits 6 are not strong enough to make it. I combined them That’s pretty good odds.
I will say it again. Brilliant! Almost to good to be true yet it makes perfect sense. Its missing a name. All beekeeping methods have a name. This is in need. I see it as a canadian automatic fall package. 🤔 Great video phil.
Your question is about prevention of swarms. I recommend increasing available space for honey stores before the bees start their main honey flow. Any shortage of space to store nectar stimulates swarming.

Ha Phil nice video you said u wanted to see/have 3-4 frames brood in the hive for winter I have for gotten where you are located I am in Virginia. the tymol treatment is that for mites and where did u get it from I have not seen it here I do not even know if we can use it here. I must of missed the video where u got the bees from any way great video it was very good and I am very glad your bees are doing good, have a blessed week
Hi Phil when you take the third super and introduce the queen. What happens if all the frames are filled with honey ? How is she going to lay winter bees ? Thanks
Im putting these on at the end of our honey flow. The alternative would be to put no boxes on at all. My flow/ dearth is pretty predictable and the box is only on for about 4-5 days. Your mileage may vary.
I find this strategy to be so smart and simple that it’s almost too good to be true. I’m going to try it. I’m just trying to figure out the logistics in getting it done. Our golden rod flow in our area ends usually Labour Day weekend. I guess, I’ll have to designate a yard and sacrifice on the final flow. What date roughly would you suggest would be the absolute end to placing the queens in?
Not sure where you are. I’m trying to hit one full brood cycle before fall feeding. Compare to cost of a replacement hive to the honey you may forgo…. Your mileage may vary. I give up virtually no extracted honey as I do this on the start of my second round about when I’m not sure I should put any boxes back or not.
Never seen a patty placed right on the bottom board. Understand you are doing this in summer. Any concerns or particulars to make this successful as you have?
I don’t do it outdoors so I can’t say. I know my confidence rests partly on my indoor wintering. But some people winter nucs outdoors around here. Usually wrapped side by side or on top of stronger colonies. You won’t know until you try.
Ha this is a very cool way to do splits u have nothing to lose doing it this way do u take the splits else where so the bees will not return to the mother hive. again this was great Thanks for doing it. Have a Blessed day
I've had bees to abscond on honey with no brood. I guess giving them a queen immediately, holds them there. Wonder if that would work with a queen cell?
This is probably year 5 doing summer splits. But only the second year doing it with no brood. I used to shake brood and put it up. That slowed my honey intake too much.
Boxes went under the escapes on the second pull starting august 2 and last batch done Aug 10. Honey pulled a few days later. Then the boxes sit there until the queens arrive and then I do the spits in the evening.
So u add a queen and move the box just 8 or 10 feet and apparently the bees reorient to the new location and do not return to original hive? Did not know that was possible.
If I open my hives in weather like that (in North Africa) my bees will kill me. Great genetics👍
Good luck and wish you success 😊

I fixed a few up with shook hot room bees because of drift but otherwise mine are holding 2-3 1/2 brood

How about “next year split”
@philbeeman Next years split is accurate.👍 In the apiary we seem to call it Phil's fall split thing.
i can live with that. usually my best ideas only take off once Ian puts them out there.@@justinsorenson

Great way to make more bees. Do you also take the oportunity to give them an OA treatment prior to there being capped brood?
I have not. I’m not keen on fumigation strategies while a queen is being introduced.

Thymovar is register in Canada for varroa mite control. I’m in Winnipeg Manitoba. We get cold fast up here.

Hi Phil
Where are the mated queens from for the bloodless splits ?
If mating Nucs , why take queens from the Nucs, etc ? If you've got time. Thanks
Most of them come from local suppliers. My goal this year is to raise more my self
Nice job
Thanks!
Where do you get those thymol pads??

They eat it right up. Top or bottom.
You must have had a very nice flow with all that honey on the splits. That goes a long way I suspect.
Yes. Good scouting pays. I had a hunch those sites would be good for those bees.
Do you think it would be successful wintering outdoors or indoors only?

Yes I move them to a new site.

Yes

Queen cell would be too slow for this late in the season.
Looking forward to year two results
Check my videos this spring to see the results from last year.

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Where did you get the queens at that time of year?
Mix of local and Hawaii.
So, a few questions.
Boxes went on with honey supers, when?
Boxes got pulled and queens got added when?
Boxes went under the escapes on the second pull starting august 2 and last batch done Aug 10. Honey pulled a few days later. Then the boxes sit there until the queens arrive and then I do the spits in the evening.
@@philbeeman thanks, may try something like this next fall.

Sorry. You might notice the forklift in the background. After the spits are made they are loaded on a truck and taken to a new site.
Where are you getting your mated queens?
170ish local. 100ish from Kona.
Have to have a flow because there is no robbing?
Do You make your own queen cells for these?
Not this year. No time.
wouldve definitley gotten more honey if you left those girls whole and harvest one more time...
You missed the whole point.
