35 year Veteran in Novi told me to tip back the boxes on doubles. See two boxes of bees make a split, see 1/2 box of bees in the bottom make a Nuc. Of course this is just prior to going out for pollination where he won't see his hives again for 4 weeks. How well does those 3 framers build up by the end of May?
Do you try to split all your hives because you are expanding or just some - to cover your natural loses throughout the year. These stronger hives will be the most prone to swarm so I suppose it is a preventative step with swarming and you are getting a lot of young queens into the operation.
@@philbeeman Thanks for the reply Phil. My wife is an RN trained in Scotland and she has commented several times while watching your videos on your level of proficiency. I only get advice. Haha.
good job!👍
Thanks!

What's your secret to not getting stung? Haha
I get stung enough, I'm just used to it.
Hey Phil, splits with only a queen excluder???
This is "step 1".

I expect the a 3 frame split in the first half of may to make a full crop of honey in july and august.

My business plan is to add 100 hives per year. Some years I hit that. Some years I don’t. I let the bees tell me what they want to do.
Once you reach your sweet spot number of hives, is there a single method to allow you to maintain that number without splitting
The only way to make up losses is to split.
