Fair enough, she is passionate and has enough belief in what she's selling to know when people are just trying it on. And no, the customer isn't always right, sometimes they just go to pick faults, complain and whinge for a freebie or just out of hate and prejudice.
Thats a true but I cook off curries for the freezer all the time and stock pile and know my gear fresh.......Out a Take-away am not so sure. Yer bang on though food that comes to you blistering hot is a microwave job. I m not a food snob but I do that in house.
Actually, Chinese takeaways have commercial high-pressure gas-hobs which heat up the woks to about twice the heat you can achieve at home; and that's probably why it was so hot. Plus it was picked up straight after being cooked. I doubt if they'd use a microwave as the business model of the Chinese way of cooking relies on doing it quickly in a wok…
The washing machine absolutely sold it for me. It's like Super Hans' pub from Peep Show; freaks out the squares and leaves the rest of us hungry for more!
Nothing wrong with the sweet & sour sauce colour the reason why it's shiny cause most likely they use arrowroot to thicken the sauce rather than cornflour. When you add cornflour it makes the sauce milky or cloudy, especially in clear sauces like s&s where arrowroot keeps it clear and makes it shiny.
7.5, from me. Looked very decent. Lol washing machine and cuttings of wood in opposite corner. Remember years ago, being in a Chinese restaurant in Uttoxeter. It’s was so 1970’s. And lime green in colour. The meal was lovely.
Hi Lee, pleased you give the take away a decent review, little tip when food is so hot wait a bit before consuming! Some sweet and sour sources have a very translucent colour, a plain boiled rice is a bit bland but that sauce will mix in well! Mark.Blyth.
Most people wait till they get home to eat the food so it's not too hot. Then, you can mix the rice with the sweet & sour chicken to absorb all that extra sauce. Also, sweet & sour sauce is pretty sticky, so it may not be wise to eat it in your car.
I was a power seller on ebay, recently gave up due to the unbearable amount of idiots wanting stuff for nothing. People will complain and make false claims just to get free stuff. CUSTOMERS ARE NEVER RIGHT! FACT
Can you please do a review of the Rainbow then? I used to use it when mum was alive. She lived in Farsley and when I visited from Cardiff we would use it. Fantastic lady works there. She’s remember me and my order weeks apart between visits. Amazing.
Shop entrance looked like a builders yard reception area. Chips were definitely reheated. The 2 mains, plus what we saw of the rice didn't seem toooo bad tbf. As some comments said....better to pop em all on a plate and tuck in instead of eating individually. What I sometimes do.....when lots of sauce, veg left over is cook a fresh chicken fillet, cut it up and marinate it in the tub, then hey presto....another meal next day. Then wash and re use the plastic containers as they are usually microwaveable etc.
Got hooked in on the headline with this one. Thought you'd been clocked again lol. Didn't look to bad food to be fair.6. And what's with the chair on top of a washing machine lolol. Great video top viewing 😂
In the 80s I ate in Ken Hom's Memories of China in Pimlico a few times and it was just an upmarket version of your typical takeaway, it's never going to be haute cuisine to be fair.
Fair revue Lee, the beef dish looked ok, not too sure about the other, maybe tempted to call in next time im passing. The Mild Seven in Birkenshaw is my fav.
That actually looked really nice.. those chips look bang on to me i love little crispy ones... the beef and black bean sauce is my favourite, the sweet and sour sauce looks the same as the takeaways where I live, looks the same as the one I get. I'd give it a 8/10
To be honest I can't blame the owner from hitting back. Why should someone get a free meal and then leave a bad review? The whole thing sounds funny and good for the owner for telling awkward customers to go elsewhere!
The customer isn't always right... in fact people are morons. Let's be honest anyone who has ever worked in a customer facing role really wants to let rip at a a minority of rude customers. I've worked for ecommerce businesses for 10+ years and since covid people have become very rude and unfair. Whether that is because of high living prices and stress I don't know but people expect everything to be spoonfed to them like babies and will do anything to fleece a business and try to get free stuff. Good for her for defending her livelihood
You’re absolutely right! I work for the NHS and abuse levels have sky-rocketed over the last two years! People have generally become ruder and far less tolerant since COVID-19! You really can’t blame her from putting rude, stupid people in their place!
To be fair, it sounds/looks like a reasonable 7 1/2 out of 10 to me. The main thing to me is it's hot, and that it doesn't taste bad. The sweet & sour sauce is always a bit artificial wherever you go to, and if you want decent chips - go to a chippy!😆 Well, you did ask........
Beef and green pepper with black bean sauce is my favourite Chinese dish. I used to live across the road from Lin’s House in Doncaster, which is sadly long gone and created the most fantastic tender beef version I have ever enjoyed. In my 29 years in Oz, I have never eaten anything approximating the quality and, what’s more, the don’t do the green pepper here. It’s replaced with bits of carrot, caulie and sometimes, broccoli. Just not the same. Thanks for the visit to Leeds.
Have to agree. Looks like pretty standard takeaway fare. Neither here nor there, although the added spice on the black bean sauce would have been a bonus for me. Did appear to be microwaved going by the heat. Chips look pretty standard for most Chinese takeaways too, although they did sound nice and crispy. My local ones are usually dried out and pretty unappetising. Used to have one takeaway that did great chips. Great big chunky numbers that were crispy on the outside and proper fluffy inside. I miss those. 6.5 from me.
Look you said you wouldn't eat the sweet and sour cause you said " I don't think I will eat that sweet and sour chicken otherwise I will glow in the dark" then 25:19 you see the box empty so you did eat it! So means you liked and to be honest all of it looked amazing and I'd order from there
Not been there for years. They used to open on a morning and do a full English breakfast. Try CANTON HOUSE down the road and order “PO PO” chicken. It’s sweet and sour with garlic and chilli.
Nice review Lee! The food seems right to me but of course i didn't taste it 😂. If you order food at the Chinese take away here in Holland the meat or chicken or what ever is also swimming in the sauces and i like that. Again seems a fair review to me Lee, i liked it! A warm greet from Holland.
Looks decent, most places don't give you enough sauce.. They probably don't have the space to put the washing machine in the back and should maybe cover it with a blanket/cloth. Good solid unbiased review considering the bad reviews from the start
What’s wrong with the washing machine in the shop? Makes a change from lanterns and pictures of temples. Very feng shui. Maybe the place doubles up as a Chinese laundry! Or perhaps the takeaway is just a front for money laundering 🤣
I like the chips crunchy like that, can't wait for the hit back on your review, that washing machine is no way up to washing that red sauce out of a white shirt
My wife is Chinese and doesn’t recognise any of the food from Chinese takeaways. It’s often nice but is very English. We go to Red Chilli in Leeds on Gt George St behind the Town Hall. Must order proper Chinese dishes though and avoid the English style ones. I recommend Mapu Tofu. Very spicy but fantastic. Another revelation is home style chicken and salt and pepper squid.

Authentic Chinese food is beautiful, same with Indian food. The names of Indian food and Chinese food are not recognised in those two countries. No such dishes.
I rarely trust reviews unless I've seen other reviews from that person. People lie and exaggerate so much. I worked in a estaurant were a customer complained about insects in the food. We had CCTV and you could plainly see them tipping some beasties into the food when they had almost finished. They demanded we clear the bill and give them a free meal the next time they came in. Eight people, I kept them talking until the police arrived. They made a habit of doing this. I wouldn't order chips with a chinese meal, but each to their own. Black bean sauce should be a little spicy. Agree with those saying it's good to get hot food so you don't need to reheat when you get home. Rate My Takeaway mentioned the washing machine as well, I wonder if that replaces the waving cat:-)
These plastic tubs have got me thinking that anything you get in a plastic tub could of been microwaved. Whereas anything in a foil container might be fresher as you can't microwave a foil container. 🤔
Nah this was nuked in the wave for sure. I just made tofu in Mao pao sauce and beef in black bean sauce and was more of a natural colour (sauces in a jar but did garlic / ginger stir fry first spring onion stalks) and on gas in a wok and defo wasn't nuclear hot. Also dry roasted some white sesame seeds and added to the tofu and beef dishes. Worked out a treat
I noticed a steep decline in take away food quality when most started using plastic containers, went from awesome food to more bland tasting, either the metal affects the taste or the plastic, in a good way for the metal and bad for the plastic.
What time of day did you visit. The chips from the night befor and reheated.I got the same thing from a chippy at 1200, when I got home, into the bin. They have a look about them, and then the rubber feel and bland taste.
Their are two Cantonese/Chinese restaurant recommendations I'd like to give you. I say "restaurants" but you can't sit down and eat your food indoors 😀 but they are GOOD 👍 The first place is Bamboo Bear and the second TakeAway is Dragon King. They are both in Bradford, BD4, Tong Street and they both do AMAZING-TASTING food in there
How odd Chinese takeaway with a washing machine in there lol. Certainly an odd entrance I must say totally agree with your comment. Chips looked terrible look like last nights been reheated or perhaps they had been in the washing machine lol 😂
Being someone that has worked in hospitality and customer service, customers tend to exaggerate problems and make up bullshit when they aren't happy. People will literally lie to make their complaint look more jusitifed. I guess they reply in a way many of us wish we could
I think the dining area could do with a makeover but apart from that I would probably give it an 8 as it was piping hot and didn’t look too bad apart from that unusual luminous sweet and sour sauce, it’s what it tastes like is the important thing. 👍
Girl on the phone was very good, customer service was brilliant and to phone you to say it's ready. What does a washing machine do to affect the taste of the food looked pretty good to me and looked like you had given the sweet n sour more of a try. Beef in black bean sauce never had it but that looked okay, chips weren't the best but would give it a 7.5 on the politeness from the girl taking the order.
Good video review as usual. I personally would have gone with an 8. But if I saw it 'in the flesh' and saw the neon red sauce I probably would have given a 7 like you did. But overall I think it looked decent. Cheers Mr MacMaster.
Exactly ✌️ my first 'proper' job was at a camp site fish and chip shop and I remember the owner telling me then " the customer is not always right-sometimes the customer wants something for nothing!" After working the summer period I knew precisely what he meant. I think Mrs Chong is a legend 😂👌👌
I don't mind glo in the dark sweet and sour as long as it's tasty 😁 Shame about the bit of gristle, but plenty of whole blackbean in there! 7.6 from me! 👍
id give it a 7 too....but i would have gone for sweet and sour chicken balls with the sauce seperate.....gotta love beef in black bean sauce though , those chips looked nice and crispy, dip them in the sauce mate :).. also, sorry im 2 years late to the review ha ha
The black bean sauce that you had is how I am used to..A thicker sauce. Our Local chinese Black bean sauce is to thin. We ordered Chips from the chinese last week and they crunched just like your chips did. Hubby complained because they seemed as if they were lunch time chips reheated. That sweet and sour looked full of not so wonderful things for it to be that colour. Loaded with additives, and E numbers I should think.
Can you get a food tray to attach to your steering wheel to eat/set the food on? Or will you not eat in your new electric vehicle? (Another youtuber uses one but he's in Canada?)
The customer is always right is what they say traditionaly but I've been in America for 20 years and one thing I discovered since I've been here I use to work at Walmart and on my first day there one thing Walmart says and truly believes this, the say the customer isn't always right, when they said this I couldn't believe it but within a few days to a couple of weeks I discovered it's true, that's there belief
on looks i would say a 4 , Never seen A sauce so bright, the beef did look better, got to say i did like the look of the chips, looked crispy . A fair review and a decent score, good review Lee
Chinese restaurants in UK sell French fries? They don’t sell them here. You ate all of the fluorescent chicken! That last shot shows the empty container 😂
Wow - that sweet and sour did look hottsie tottsie ! Your facial expressions with it being so steaming hot had me on the floor ! Why didn't you eat one of the sweet and sour pineapples ??? LOL ! Those really retain heat 🙂 Enjoy your reviews and channel !!!
I live in leeds and must admit i have really struggled to find a good chinese take away where i'll keep going back to if youre ever in knaresborough Lee try tasty house special curry and fried rice best one ive ever had.
Nearly Taycan time - bet you cant wait!!! - looking forward to the review - the Chinese seemed pretty standard to be fare , chips looked horrendous though - if your after a decent Chinese restaurant to try and get yourself off to Chopsticks in Hasland - best Gravy/Curry Sauce around - straight up - they do the best Chicken Chow Mein ive ever eaten also - pretty sure the sweet and sour chicken will live up as well - enjoying the foodie episodes
Yep, I agree with Michael Smith you need a lap tray lol. And, it was so hot because it had been in the microwave!! To be honest it looked okay, the chips were very crunchy 😆
Hi Lee! I’ve seen that takeway being reviewed before and recognised it straight away. Yes the owner does return any comments mentioned. I had to laugh when you said about Sarah ordering beef in black bean and you sweet and sour chicken. That’s my hubby and me too. He orders the beef and me sweet n sour chicken. I’d rather have salt n pepper chips love them from Chinese. You certainly couldn’t complain about the temperature of the food anyway. At least it wasn’t cold. I’d give it a 7.5 looking at it
Fair enough, she is passionate and has enough belief in what she's selling to know when people are just trying it on. And no, the customer isn't always right, sometimes they just go to pick faults, complain and whinge for a freebie or just out of hate and prejudice.
Seems to be a lot of fuss about nothing here…. Looks like any other UK Chinese food, standard Chinese chips, “move on there’s nothing to see here” 👍😂
Usually food which is blisteringly hot has been in a microwave.
Thats a true but I cook off curries for the freezer all the time and stock pile and know my gear fresh.......Out a Take-away am not so sure. Yer bang on though food that comes to you blistering hot is a microwave job. I m not a food snob but I do that in house.
It doesn't make sense in this case to microwave. Mac ordered it 20 minutes before. Straight out of the wok, into a box and kept in a food warmer.
The washing machine is for the owner to wash her dirty laundry in public! 😂
9:46 "If we make a mistake, we'll give you free delivery on your next order".
12:37 Window- 'Free delivery'.
The thing that concerns me most, is that it's right next door to a pet shop called Tail Waggers!! 🐕🐕🐕😂
Now Lee did say that beef had some gristle in it! Oh dear....... Lol
Is there a funeral directors the other side 😂😂
maybe it's a meat tenderiser, disguised as a washing machine!. lol.
Pet shop is probably the takeaway's main supplier !
lmao oh no no no
The washing machine absolutely sold it for me. It's like Super Hans' pub from Peep Show; freaks out the squares and leaves the rest of us hungry for more!

I work in retail mate… ‘the customer is always right’ died out a loooonnnggg time ago 🤣🤣
Customers are not always right. More like self-entitled.
Saw that washing machine and just thought of Super Hans (The Peep Show) and his "amazing" ideas for opening a pub. 😄
"People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people, Jeremy."
Wow, I wonder what the temperature of that food was like? 😂 Excellent 😂
I love how you carry your own fork, salt and vinegar...there's a man who likes his grub!
Not seen anyone eat a chinese takeaway in a Porsche before. Fair play.
The only thing Chinese about Chinese takeaways is the staff. The food bears no resemblance to authentic Chinese fare.
well the pretty waitress was a nice blonde...
7.5, from me. Looked very decent.
Lol washing machine and cuttings of wood in opposite corner.
Remember years ago, being in a Chinese restaurant in Uttoxeter. It’s was so 1970’s. And lime green in colour. The meal was lovely.

Lee I love how your telling us all to be quiet, like we are sat in your car haha that's funny 🤪
Lol. 😂
I found the chair on top of the washing machine more odd than the machine itself...
Most people wait till they get home to eat the food so it's not too hot. Then, you can mix the rice with the sweet & sour chicken to absorb all that extra sauce. Also, sweet & sour sauce is pretty sticky, so it may not be wise to eat it in your car.
The Washing Machine with the Chair on top makes me think they are building some kind of Time Machine
Looked lovely that, standard looking chips from a Chinese Takeaway which is why I never bother with them but the two dishes looked gorgeous.
Better hot than cold to be fair. Usually you plate it up and it cools down.
First thing that strikes me is the customer area was a dump
From the looks of the inside of that place it seemed to be part Chinese food, Chinese laundry and part lumber yard. Lol.

I was just super confused as to why there was a washing machine in a Chinese takeaway lol
Money laundering
@@andicheese1763 lol
Chinese restaurants in UK sell French fries? They don’t sell them here. You ate all of the fluorescent chicken! That last shot shows the empty container 😂
Out of curiosity, do you sanitise your hands after touching door handles and money before eating? 😂
I do. I have sanitizer in the car. 👍🏼👍🏼
@@TheMacMaster glad you do haha, it makes me uneasy when people don’t, especially with covid about
Wow - that sweet and sour did look hottsie tottsie ! Your facial expressions with it being so steaming hot had me on the floor ! Why didn't you eat one of the sweet and sour pineapples ??? LOL ! Those really retain heat 🙂 Enjoy your reviews and channel !!!
The washing machine is a bonus you can do your washing while waiting for your meal
Mac! Was the apparent chicken a bit stringy?
Yes a little.
@@TheMacMaster oh mac, I knew an old timer that served in Burma, he said the same about catmeat.
Nothing says authentic Chinese like a chair perched on top of a washing machine in the foyer.
The sweet and sour is so hot because the sauce is molten sugar.
God vid...an yea how random was that washing machine 🤔
I’d give it a 7.5 looking at it
Love Salt and Pepper chips too. Actually really easy to knock up at home and get them even better than the takeaway.
Oh and to have a washing machine or dryer just left in the corner also very random lol
