  • Harvest more and do more with interconnected rain gardens that bioremediate (naturally filter) and use stormwater within living filters of soil and vegetation. That free irrigation water then grows more shade, beauty, food, medicine, wildlife habitat, flood control, and more!
    You can maintain the system to your desired appearance - wild, manicured, or anything in between; the basic concepts presented in this video remain the same.
    This video shows you ways to increase the water-harvesting capacity of street-side, street runoff-harvesting basins in the public right-of-way by creating connected basins separated by a pathway and underground utilities.
    Basins can be connected with a gradual dip in the path (0:54)
    or 3"-diameter pipe installed at a 2% slope (1:45)
    Additionally, this video shows you how to direct runoff from a driveway to adjoining rain garden with a simple diversion berm (3:32).

    I've noticed Washington state has been applying the use of storm drain basins. Few of which are more impressive than others.

    Thank you for all the amazing info. But what did you do in the past years? I think you should be in charge of water harvesting for all drought prone states. Are there any backyard transformations you could show? Have you been helping in other countries?

    How can you find out if curb cut basins are allowed in your neighborhood? I’m in the city of Phoenix and I am not in an HOA neighborhood.

      Call your local transportation department. You should be fine in Phoenix as there are a number of stormwater harvesting curb cuts installed there. See Chapter 8 of "Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands and Beyond, Volume 2, 2nd Edition" for more key details and tips.

      Did u do any?

      @@l0gic23 No. We did use Galaxy Gardens to gutter our home and put in a 2700 gallon tank for rain catchment. We’re also doing passive catchment in the front yard but in the end decided we would have to deal with the city to get a curb cut, and it wouldn’t really be worth it.

    In a concrete jungle, where we have concrete curbs and driveways, would our driveways be the "basins" that you are referring to here?

    That 3": pipe doesnt get clogged up? how often are those needing cleaned?

    • @HarvestingRainwater
      @HarvestingRainwater  2 роки тому +4

      Never thanks to correct slope and placement

    • @HarvestingRainwater
      @HarvestingRainwater  2 роки тому +3

      It does not clog if you maintain minimum 2% slope. Street-side basin acts as a sediment trap. For more details, see p. 215 of "Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands and Beyond, Volume 2, 2nd Edition"

    Looks great but seems like the balance between the watermanagement and the practical use of the sidewalks for pedestrians and cyclist is a bit off, no?

      Where he lives, I doubt that storms like these happen more than once or twice a year so it's fine ?

      Tucson solves this issue by building a concrete sidewalk with metal plating where the rainwater goes under to a water basin. This idea is great for any area that wants to raise their groundwater and water aquifer levels

    In my country it rains sometimes for days, not just 10 min. I don't understand these ideas to flood trees and plants because trees don't like to stand in water for days. We made channels to drain water from trees and vegetables. So waste of water

      I hope they are able to divert it to somewhere else to actually capture it somehow?
