  • In Episode 2 of Permaculture Tours, we visit Melliodora, the beautiful home of David Holmgren and Su Dennett in Victoria, Australia. David is the co-originator of the permaculture concept and this tour offers an insight into how he and Su have designed their home and gardens according to permaculture design principles.
Come and take a tour through the four zones that make up their 1-hectare property - vegetable gardens, fruit trees, geese, goats and chickens, a tiny house, and a very cool “cool cupboard” in the kitchen!

I was going to do this right out of high school, or grade 12. Had the money saved for a good start. Then reality, life, and others' expectations started to set in on me. So I went to college to do the "correct" thing. My life is a wreck now. Follow your gut instinct. Don't let others sway your opinion if you are set on what YOU want to do. The world needs more of these types of human habitats. May the creator and company bless you all.

It's never too late! I gladly listened to my gut and decided not to go to college and start a permaculture farm but it wasn't easy especially because of the expectations of other people and the fear that I won't be taken seriously. I wish everyone could just do whatever they want without this stupid fear.

Thank you thank you Happen Films for showing us an alternative to how we were raised and told what to value - the 9-5, consuming , money, the grind etc. Absolutely this is what we should all be doing. 10:58 "We don't need huge numbers of people to change behavior, to make a big impact. That, I think, has always been underestimated." Great statement. It reminds me of Pam Warhurst and the Incredible Edible Network's idea that small actions matter. Let's start, each of us, today.

@Was Guilty If you realy do effectively operate a small farm you should already know some things.
Not every one is a farmer or will farm. OK your right.
Big busness farming is destructive to the land and environment. It is wasteful of resources. It relies on huge energy inputs to operate. When farms are monopolized, the people have little choice but to pay what is asked and eat whatever is avalable. Not good.
Family farming is good for all of us but is being discouraged. Look at Urban Growth Boundaries in Oregon. No land evaluation was made. Some of the best farm land became subdivisions and malls. Every few years some more of the best farm land is added to the urban growth areas. Much of the less valuable for farming land can't be used for homes, it's outside an arbitrarily boundry. If you do have farm land you can't live on it unless you make what the government thinks is enough money to justify it. That is the effective end of new small famliy farms as the existing farms go large land owners.

    • @ster2600

@Was Guilty but you can live a much lower impact life without farming everything. Not everyone should farm, but we need to stop the endless consumerism

Really grateful to you.
